I love that the movie documents an era in NY that will never come again. A huge bustling city of immigrants and how they lived and interacted with each other.

One of the reasons I love watching old films is seeing the depiction of how life looked back then.

@@kiteandflex This film gives a better and more realistic view of that era than most.

Yeah, there are no immigrants in NY....

Marty's friends are holding him back, but he did not realize it.
It shows the 50s dating scene was also toxic.

YES!! That is exactly the morale of the story. So many people came at me with negative comments about how this movie shows women being awful and I have NO idea where they’re pulling that from.

@@kiteandflex The modern dating scene, which I believes goes back to the 1920s has always been a mess that no one knows how to fix.

1:17: a gentleman always walks on the street side, that's old school manners. Superb film and definitely one of my favorites.

Marty is a treasure of a film. Still haven’t seen a movie like it since.

Marty is a classic, and is one of the most realistic movies ever made, unlike your typical BS Hollywood movie.

It may be hard for you and I to understand today, but in the 1950s things like age and marriage were viewed in a very different way. 30 was considered over the hill. If you weren't married by then you might be seen as a freak. Just my thoughts

Thanks so much for the great review. Wanted to see if I’d be into the movie before I rented it and you were very in depth in regards to all of its qualities. Needed this very much

I know Clara says she's 29, it's possible she's older (as Marty's mother suspects). I like her a lot too, but she might shave a few years off to keep Marty interested. I don't hold it against her.
