Melly Mohow
I'm late to the Flosstube party, but I'm enjoying watching you go through your stash - I started stitching in 1981, so you're bringing back lots of memories for me! I'm also thinking of my own stash which occupies a 4-drawer file cabinet & at least 1 plastic bin + bins for my fabric & kits ... Oy!!!!! I'm almost 70 & know I will never get to stitch all the things (unless I never die!), so I need to start sorting my stash, decide what will bring me joy, & start stitching those patterns. So many good intentions - I wish I hadn't taken that 17 year break from cross stitch!
I hear ya, Melly! I took a long break from it too, and feel like I missed so much!
I loved seeing your pattern stash. Wow! You have some good ones. Thank you.
Hi Jan, so enjoyed your video. When you held up the picture with the three bear ornaments, I had to laugh. I made those for my Mom years ago. She has passed away now, but I still have them. My finish is not the best on those little guys. I now make ornaments for my four grandchildren, they look a lot better.
It was a blast from the past, right! Love that you made those!
Hi Jan! Loved the Blast from the Past! Recognized quite a few from magazines that I used to own. I did a major clean out about 10 years ago when I thought knitting needed to take over my life. I got rid of a lot of linen too. Could kick myself. So now I'm doing both crafts but loving Cross stitch more..yet. Maureen Appleton has a current blog under Heart's Content. Always loved her too.
I know. I think about what I gave away and what I wish I would have kept and it makes me sad. Luckily, I did keep most of my patterns and linen, but I got rid of my entire set of DMC. Ugh! I have rebuilt it all now. Live and learn!
That was fabulous fun! I love your choices in chart! I loved everything, you have given some ideas! Thank you!
What fabulous patterns - enough for anyone's lifetime!!!
Probably a couple of lifetimes. 🤣
Oooo.... I love this video so much!! Found some gems that I've added to my wish list!!!!! Eeek!
Ha! Glad I could help with some stash enhancement! ❤️
Loved getting to see your beautiful charts today Jan. I need to get my charts and everything into a spreadsheet that I can keep updated easily. I’m going to try and work on that before the New Year. Hope you and Mike had a good Thanksgiving.
Wow!, Awesome Stash, thank you for sharing.🥰
OMG Jan!! You do need to live forever!!!! 😂
😂😂😂
Wonderful collection! Thank you for sharing!
SHEET PROTECTORS!! LOL. That DMC Sampler screams You! I know you are not a sampler girl but the colorful design is you all you....so start it! 😁 Did you see me raise my hand and say....yes the Autumn Quaker I won from you and I think we were going to have a stitchalong in the fall. 😅 That was fun! Have a great weekend. ❤🐈🙋♀️
That’s right! It was you! So much for our stitch along and really, where did fall go??? How can it be December already!! Talk about time flying! And before you know it we’re going to be moving again! And yes, sheet protectors! DUH!!! Oy vey, the mind is the first thing to go! Hope you are having a lovely weekend! ❤️
"I have to live forever... that's just all there is to it" - best line ever! LOL I know exactly how you feel. I have soooo many crafts that I do (I kind of "round robin" them) and I'm one of those that when I start a new craft, I go out and buy **everything** I think I'll need and everything I think I *might* need... so I have stash upon stash of crafting goodies and... I'm almost 58. When I look at my craft room I'm pretty sure I need to live forever too, lol. Although the other day I was in my craft room with my 23 yo daughter, I looked and said... "just think, someday this will all be yours"... she did not look like I should live forever!!! (haha just kidding, but the look on her face was pretty priceless)! Oh and btw... my husband and I agree... we blinked at some point in the 1990's and ended up in almost 2020. Neither of us can figure out how that happened.
Thank you jan always love your videos always, always always ❤️
Enjoyed your sorting session. I thought I was the only one with cut out magazine patterns. Some are beautiful. Not sure I will ever stitch them but I can dream.
Yep! Lots of dreaming going on here, too! ❤️
You have inspired me to clean out my file box of charts and magazines! I need to get ready for 2020.
Good luck! ❤️
Traci Roberts - SAME HERE!! 2020 is my refresh and organize year here!
OMG what a good collection of patterns you have. I have added some (more) to my wishlist and noted some inspiration for 2020: exploring specialty stitches and working another hardanger piece. Thanks!
Yes to specialty stitches and Hardanger!! ❤️❤️ Glad I could offer you some inspiration!
Lol...you are keeping me company tonight ;)
Enjoyed going through your stash with you!
Hi Jan...my word I love your patterns...I would not take notes on the names but have written to review this post😜best wishes❤️
Lol. Someone else said she muted the sound so she wouldn’t hear the names of the patterns and be tempted to look for them. 😂😂😂
I don’t think that would help me either😜
Hello, Jan! Really enjoyed sharing your walk through your stash.. Thank you. Loved that you didn't edit out the crinkling and thinking you did. It seemed more like a visit and there are those of us out here who LOVE the crinkling, makes me think of stitching goodies in a present or package straight from the shop!! Immediate happy reaction..
Thanks Julie! Glad you enjoyed it! ❤️
Tks for showing us your stash! I cut the sound when there was something I like so I would not remember the names! LOL!
LOL Maryse! That’s so funny. Did it work?
@@JanHicksCreates Of course not! LOL! The pictures are hunting me!!!
Hi Jan! That was a blast! Happy Thanksgiving!
Jan, I am so jealous - that bee sampler from cross stitch & country crafts is my unicorn chart! You have to do that bell pull with the seasons, it's so beautiful. So much fun to watch you sort through things - thank you for sharing it with us x
Hi Liz! So how about this. How about I send you the Bee Sampler, you stitch it and then send it back to me. Doesn’t matter when or how long you take. It’s not like I’m going to get to it any time soon. If you like this idea, send me your address at my email jan@madforyarn.com and I’ll get it in the mail to you. ❤️
@@JanHicksCreates that's so kind of you - I really wasn't saying it for that reason. I would love that, though - thank you so much. I will ping you my address. #givelovegetlove xx
Sheet protectors! Lol thanks for sharing!
Jan it’s so ironic but I just shared that hardanger Christmas house with the 3D effect on my flosstube #3. I do a section called Mom’s Corner where I share what my Mom did (she was the avid stitcher but passed away in 2017) and I just shared that finished piece that I hang in my house during the Christmas season. She did it in 2002.
How funny is that! And Cathy Haberman just showed a Sue Lentz piece on her video the other day. We are all channeling each other! That Christmas House is such a stunning piece!
oh my Jan!! You did well to only pull out the stained glass stars!! I could see at least 3-4 I'd want to start straight away!!
The reality of my WIP pile helped me to keep it under control, not to mention the two big ones I’ll be started Jan. 1 which is right around the corner! 😳🤯
Thanks going through my stash and already have a pile tks
Amazing ! I am a newbie I would love to start a stash 🤗
The stitching stores are happy to help you with that! 😁
The sampler `To love a person is to learn the song that` in their heart` sampler I`ve stitched and is hung as a bellpull in our bedroom. I didn`t stitch the last part. Love it. Those are lovely patterns and the one`s you have chosen to do I look forward seeing your progress. I am wondering where you are moving too.
Hi Clare! We are moving to San Antonio. We don’t have a timeline yet. Won’t know that for sure until the paperwork gets done, but we are very excited!
The Stitching Post is my LNS. It is wonderful to see the charts that you purchased there.
Yeah, it was my LNS for years and years. Such a great store!
They are called page protectors....lol.Jan your a mess but in a good way! Yes Leslie would love the Shepards Needle pattern. I do believe we have the same taste in patterns! I was collecting the Blackbird Designs but I have decided that once I stitch them I will be selling them all. A suggestion do you do Excel? Start putting your charts by Author or by seasons so you dont buy doubles. Also you can do your threads that way too! See ya laters heading to bed, and yes I'm sleeping late as possible!
Yes, page protectors! I don’t know why I couldn’t think of that! DUH! I keep an inventory of my threads and charts in the XStitch app. It’s the perfect tool for that, plus it helps me keep track of my WIPs, what I have kitted up, and has a tool for figuring out fabric size. I highly recommend it!
@@JanHicksCreates Cool thanks for the tip!
They are called sheet protectors :-)
Of course that’s what they are. 😂
Jan which magazine has that 250 yr anniversary sampler? I need to find it on the destash groups. It was amazing. Don't get rid of too much you may look for it later on. Just pack it all.
Well, taking note throughout (finally just getting to watch this one!). Did you know we have a very similar taste in charts??? I really want to do the Hawk Run Hollow ones - even the Halloween one, and I don't much care for Halloween. But you say they have a Christmas one? Hmmmm...I mean, at this point, we might as well start planning out 2021 stitching...I have the Glitter Houses too - all kitted up and ready to go, but don't think I'll get to them in 2020 (because you're making me do Farewell to Anger, Balmy Spring, Owl Forest...and so on and so forth). :)
Thanks for sharing your beautiful stash with us!!
LOL. I am such a big meany, making you do all of these projects!! But yes, look at the Christmas Hawk Run design. It is gorgeous. Some day! ❤️
@@JanHicksCreates Oooh Look - Christmas at Hawk Run Hollow was already on my wish list! :D
Of course it was! 😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️
@@JanHicksCreates LOLOL!! Hush you!
SLEEVES!
Hi Jan! Greatly enjoyed your video. I need to organize my stash as well! BTW- can you tell me which Moira Blackburn pattern that went by so quickly? I didn’t recognize it. Thanks, and much luck with the move!
Hi Teresa! Thanks! The Moira Blackburn pattern was Peace Garden Sampler.
We call them plastic sleeves in Australia Jan...you certainly will be busy when you start all those projects...and finish the others.....🥰😘🇦🇺
Here’s to starting and finishing!! And yes, plastic sleeves/page protectors. My mind was a blank! Lol
Well, I am now CERTAIN that I am a cross stitch HOARDER!! My stash is so utterly out of control, it’s insane. I need to watch this video carefully. I bought two lovely wood filing cabinets with hanging file folders and at one time had a good part of my stash neatly in them. Then a hurricane was coming, and the cabinets were under two East-facing windows, and I panicked that the storm might destroy everything. In my mad rush to batten down the hatches, I tossed everything into large plastic bins (including my WIPS) and they still sit there today in a totally unorganized MESS! In my defense, I lost my partner of 28 yrs a few months after that storm scare - so I just haven’t been myself since. But I think 2020 is THE year for new organization and tidiness here!! And lots of downsizing of stash ...
Oh K T, your world was totally turned upside down! But I also can promise that if you get in there and get that organized again, it will make you feel so much better! I recommend that you start with small bites. Open a bin and take out a stack and close the bin and just deal with that stack. Maybe give yourself an hour a day, deal with a stack or two from a bin, so that you don’t get overwhelmed. Before you know it, you’ll have it all organized again, and maybe even have cleared some out, which is also a good feeling! I have faith in you!
Jan Hicks thank you so much for the positive encouragement!!
Sheet protector my friend.
I'm late watching your looooooong video. I would separate all the kitted and semi-kitted ones from the just charts-that's just me. When you move do you unpack drawers or do they just get cling-wrapped. You'll need to add Florida AND Texas to your map ones.
Hi Pat! They do just wrap up the cabinet and ship it. No unpacking for the most part. I already have Florida and Maryland maps, so yeah, I need to get Texas...and stitch them some day! 😂
🤗
I am 65 and I totally can't remember the names of things. Although I don't forget anything to do with figures or bookkeeping. Funny isn't it. Plastic sleeves are what they are laughing with you.
Live tgese videos. Thank you Jan. Are you going to tell us where you are moving. Always interested in what you are doing. If not, that is absolutely fine.
Yep! Moving to San Antonio, TX. We are very excited!
What is hard anger ?
Loved seeing all your stash! If I'm correct, you said "Colin Powell" instead of "Michael Powell" 😂
Did I really!!! Oh how funny! That may be showing my state of mind these days! 😂
Page protectors? lol
My brain just could not find those words! Lol
I would love a stitch-a-long for the kid's by the sea shore,,, I am sure I have at least 2 of them,,, maybe in 2020 ?... I am finished with your video,, have to go to work/ I am going to finish while my turkey is cooking,,, happy Thanksgiving
Hmm, I’ll have to think about a SAL for the kids by the sea shore pieces. They aren’t really on my radar at this point, but that couldn’t change! Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving!
