@@KW-ey7fb What makes you think so? Aloisia dumped him at Christmas 1780, and about the only thing modern scholarship agrees on regarding the dating of K356 is that it was written in 1781 in Salzburg, before "Idomeneo" (K366) in Munich. Contemporary records indicate that everything was going his way, and he was writing marvellous music (Coronation Mass, Haffner Serenade, Concerto for 3 pianos, etc). Furthermore Schikaneder (Magic Flute) and his troupe came to Salzburg at the end of that summer, and they had a lot of fun with the Mozart family at home. No hidden sadness in the Sinfonia Concertante - pure playful Mozart.
I don’t know why the algorithm put this in my list, but it was just what I needed! I enjoyed watching Julia and Gordan having fun while performing beautiful music. Made it seem so effortless though I can’t fathom the number of hours each of them spent practicing and honing their skills. All I can say is “Thank you!”
This is the 1st movement (Allegro maestoso) of the Sinfonia concertante in E-Flat Major, K. 364 Julia Fischer, violin Gordan Nikolic, viola Netherlands Chamber Orchestra Yakov Kreizberg, Conductor
this seems to contradict one of your remarks...."Artist Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Jonathan Carney, Jonathan Carney, Andrew Williams" (from the notes above)
This is truly amazing. And for all the comments regarding the fun they exuded, you have to be at an extraordinary level of musical excellence for that to come across so wonderfully. And they did. An absolutely wonderful performance.
I love the phrase from the viola at 9:00 and then repeated by the violin at 9:08....its only repeated twice and this is the second time...I just can't get it out of my head. Love this piece. And I love the way they interact.
That is lovely of course. But this is one long line of loveliness, and one phrase that stands out for me is at, among other times, 11:53. That passage always takes my breath away and brings tears to my eyes.
Many thanks for uploading this of two of the world's top players in rehearsal in 2007. They are "living" the wonderful music. All this is also helped by their instruments too. Julia is playing a Guadagnini made in 1750 and Gordan has a Guiseppe Guarneri Filius d’Andrea (I don't know its ID number though)..
Thank the powers that be for CZcams; how else would we see these two having a great time and playing so well together. Julia is much better when she can have fun....and she's beautiful....Mozart would have loved her.
When a musician is recording has different facial and body expression than when he (or she) is performing. A very relaxing and carefree recording with the best of Mozart "Sinfonia Concertante for violin, viola and orchestra" Grande Julia and partner!!
I like many other commentators love this musical work, and have done so for over 60 years. This is a remarkable performance, imo in true concertante style, and played with such energy. Above all, I think the greatest credit must go to Mozart, because without him, these players could not have shown their combined talent. The cadenza was absolutely stunning.
Two personalities here that I feel certain mozart envisaged when he wrote this joyous concerto (sinfonia concertante). So good to watch you together and hear that joy. It is truly a joy to play!
Classical music could be so much better played just like this, without all the costumes and old rules...Julia Fischer is just adorable, all natural ! And all these colors suit so much more to this music...
performers concert dress is something like dressing up for a wedding or church or other ceremony as a sign of respect for the institution. that respect for the music is what keeps the quality high. it's normal to wear street clothes to a recording session like this. there aren't any "old rules" being broken here
I know I’m replying 7 years after, but once I heard someone saying: “music is not about fireworks- music is feeling”! I got my goosebumps just hearing the intro. Superb.
11:33 I'm so glad we had this time together, just to have a laugh or sing a song. Seems we just get started and before you know it, comes the time we have to say, so long.....
Sensacional.
I would love to hear them play the whole piece, but especially the second movement. Julia has a lovely personality and is a virtuoso on her instrument. And Gordan is a worthy partner in her playing.
If this doesn't put you in a good mood I don't know what will.
Thanks for your unconditional love and support where are you watching from.
This is about Mozart's berak-up with the woman he loved, so it isn't anything happy
This doesn't put me in a good mood but the third movement of Sinfonia Concertante will.

A thrill to watch two of the best in the world at a recording session. It doesn't get much better than this.
