Henry Methvin's father, Ivan, didn't actually make a deal. Hamer basically told him pull over, we're using your truck, tied or handcuffed him to a tree, and waited for Bonnie and Clyde. They needed a way to slow them down since Clyde was known to drive fast all the time and they knew they would recognize the Methvin's truck also.

It was "old man" Ivy Methvin that cut the deal with the governor of Texas "Ma" Ferguson (through Frank Hamer) for his son Henry's exoneration from a murder charge in the lone star state. Part of the bargain was that Ivy stay with the posse at the ambush site as bait until the deal was sealed by the blood of Bonnie and Clyde. That prevented the pair being tipped off in advance by Henry who might've otherwise been told of the arrangement by his father or another family member.

The original curator of the Bonnie and Clyde Ambush museum, Boots Hinton, was the son of Ted Hinton, one of the ambush team members. His father knew Bonnie personally and kept in touch with the family of them both, long after their deaths. The museum is located in what was the original location of Ma Canfields cafe, where Clyde purchased their last meal. I toured the museum in 2009 and talked to Mr. Hinton about Bonnie and Clyde. I had just read "Go Down Together" by Jeff Guinn. Mr. Hinton did not like the book.

Hamer was no longer a Texas Ranger at that time. He was retired from the Rangers and was chief of security for a Houston oil company. He was hired by the Bureau of Prisons (state of Texas) to track down Bonnie and Clyde. They had engineered a prison break a few months before in which a guard was killed. That's what brought the Bureau of Prisons, and then Hamer, into the picture.
