The Archie comics were absolutely my favorite comic, and version of the turtles. They were very similar to the cartoon, but a little stranger, a little more mature, and I loved the style they used for the turtles. They reprinted the run in TPBs recently, so it should be pretty easy to pick up the series if you're into it. I REALLY want neca to do a Cudley the Cowlick figure. It's a giant cow head that slurps people up and carries them around the universe. It's just so weird and awesome!

Same here. I’ve read every version of the turtles and Archie is my favorite. I was reading it hand in hand with the mirage run when I was a kid. If someone loves the first cartoon then the Adventure series is mandatory reading, it’s just a better story of the same characters.

Haha! That's actually very accurate to the feeling I was getting when moving his legs around. (Thundercats by Super7, but they are essentially the same legs)
I now definitely get that you don't collect figures because you first saw them in a cartoon/comics/movie that took place first (i hope what i just wrote was correct).
I do, but i totally respect another way to see things (i did not forget the video you gave me the link about).
The Archie comics came fast to Europe when i was a kid, wich was not the case of the Mirage that needed mych more time, maybe because the Archie are inspired by the 1987 cartoon.
I had a few issues at home, and i recollect that Man Ray was seen at the back of the front page (sorry, i don't know how to tell it in good english lol).
That was a picture of the 4 turtles with a few iconic characters of that comics, and he was a part of them, and that has been saved in my mind forever.
So, that's the reason why i want this figure in my collection, despite the articulations problems he seems to have.
Anyway, nice figure, and it's cool NECA made his partner wich has, as you now may know, have a very short but sad story in the ongoing story (i did not read the bonus stories yet).
So i guess you bought him for his sculpt ?
BTW, to me, the additionnal head is even better than the main one.
Thank you for sharing this! I love hearing the memories and nostalgia people have with these figures. Often my reviews are not items that I am keeping, but belong to a friend. I am very selective on figures that I want to keep and sometimes after a review I find that I want my own.

Yes, having a figure in hand will never be the same than seing it on a screen.
The Wrist joints on mine were VERY locked up I had to put each one under warm water to get them to move. I also had an indent on my hand from trying to get that damn tail on LOL (Not as bad as Turtles in Time Leatherhead though...GOD). Still I love this figure. Hope I can find Dreadmon soon or hopefully get him online. Love the vids dude!

I don't collect the toon line but I do collect the arcade and I'm thinking some of the accessories shouldn't look TOO bad with those plus baby turtles!

I like your reviews. I'd recommend you combining the articulation and posing categories (both are directly connected to each other anyway). Accessories in my opinion would be a more relevant category for the rating. Keep up the good work.

I remember reading those comics as a kid back in the day. Didn’t realise back then this was the Archie run. They were magazines over here in Belgium and The Netherlands featuring the comics as well as games and educational stuff about turtles and sealife, or interviews on the movies coming out (this one with Man Ray came out a few months before the 3rd movie released over here). I distinctly remember this one as well as the early ones retelling the origin story from the cartoon, but I stopped reading them when they went a little too wacky for me. Now I would love to check those comics out again, they seem like a ton of fun.
Btw, fantastic job on the tv screens man, you’ve included pretty much all the iconic stuff. Sadly the accessory set was sold out on the Haulathon, maybe I’ll get another chance over the next weeks and otherwise I’ll have to patiently wait for the regular release.

@@NostalgiaUnboxeddo you recommend printing the tv inserts on glossy paper? I don’t have the accessory set yet (I did score one Friday online) but not sure what type of material the current inserts are.
@@TMNT_1987_ They are glossy so I printed on glossy as well. If you print at home you may need to bump the size p to 102%. I reduced the size for printers that enlarge to remove white borders.

First thanks for the Tv screen printouts. The cartoon set in particular has a great selection. Darkwing Duck, Transformers and Gargoyles.
Never had the the playmates Man ray toy. But I know it was popular, that's basicly the inspiration for this comic design. The cartoon did have man ray for an episode but the design kind of flop. Just a green space lizard design. So I could see someone picking this up without a connection to the comic, wanting an update of the playmates toy character as if he properly fit in with the Turtles cartoon.
I'm probably going to pass though. Looks like I might be going for a set of the mirage turtles line.

I'm grabbing him because I'm hoping Neca's Archie line gives us all the Mighty Mutanimals. I only get the cartoon Neca TMNT figures that I really, really like because my main TMNT line is Super7 Ultimates!. I collect too many other lines to work on two TMNT lines simultaneously. I ain't got bread like that. I try to get the Neca characters that I doubt Super7 will do. or example, I got all 4 frogs and all 3 Neutrinos from Neca because I imagine Super7 will only do the 2 frogs previously released as figures (Genghis and Napoleon) and 1 Neutrino (Zak). I got Usagi cause I'd get Usagi and Panda Khan no matter how many times they're released or who they're released by!

Knowing that they’re already half way through the Mighty Mutanimals with these Haulathon releases makes that idea way more tempting.
Having a plan is definitely important when it comes to TMNT. So many brands and versions available with more coming out. So you prefer the Playmates style versions of the Turtles versus being cartoon versions? I think I am the other way around, though I do like some things Super7 did (like alternate heads)
@@NostalgiaUnboxed I don't prefer one to the other, really, I love both styles. I was 8 when the cartoon dropped, but I probably enjoyed the figures more than the show. The only reason I'm Super7 over Neca, as a completist at least, is because I missed out on the first year and a half of neca releases and was able to grab the 1st wave of Super7. I absolutely could've collected Neca instead, but it just didn't work out that way. They are both great lines and I don't think one is better than the other. I get the Neca figures that I love, like Groundchuck and Dirtbag, who I'll also get when Super7 drops them.

Ray looks great, i think he'll sell on nostalgia alone to people who loved the Ray Filet figure even if they never heard of the archie comic. But forget international struggles, i live a state away from Neca and i haven't found a dang TMNT anything from this release.
Ut has been pretty brutal with Target not getting stuff out. I'm sorry! Good thing is that these comic figures will be on other sites eventually, but we have 3 more Fridays of Target.com posting stuff
@@NostalgiaUnboxed i'm not too concerned, i was able to get the mutant shredders online and i found the gremlin so it's just been the hunt for the baby turtles mostly for me. just seems weird that it seems like almost everybody else in the country is finding heaps of the stuff in store, but nothing here to speak of.

I passed on man ray and dreadmon and got slash from the target near me. Slash is the best from this line so far in my opinion. If they had jagwar, I would've got him too

I picked him up. I grabbed him because I have Slash and really enjoy him. The Slash fit in with my cartoon Stuff so I assumed Man Ray would too. Really dig the Blue. Don't have to many Blue Guys on my shelves. I love the "Powdered Toast Man" Head sculpt. Great choices for all the Scenes You were cool enough to put together for the T.V. One day I'll have my Accessory set untill then I'm living through you. I think posing is definitely a criteria that Action Figures should be judged on. Keep it up. Too many Reviewers have became stale and obvious shills. Now that you have mentioned your cat. I feel I speak for all your subscribers.... We need to see it. Plus Cat videos = Views, I'm just sayin.
Hahaha. Actually my cats have made appearances in past videos. They usually are asleep when I record episodes, but if they ever jump up on the table then they make into the episode! I think you're onto something about the cats. I'm actually pretty selective with what I end up keeping for myself. (mostly because of space) And sometimes I just can't get ahold of items in a timely matter for the "new" items for reviews

I'm trying to resist the Archie line cuz who really needs ANOTHER Turtles line. But these do look good. Although I had my hesitations about Man Ray for all the exact reasons you kinda pointed out. So thank you for the reassurance I can skip him 🙏 and loved that with the limited articulation, could still pull off the signature "Burt Reynolds"pose but ended up more daydreaming looking at clouds. Still a great review 🤙

Could have sworn his name was Ray Filet. I had the 80/90's mattel version, but i never remembered him from the show, and i only had Volume one of the OG run. It was a really nice collection cant remember how many but it collected a ton of comics. Alot of it was in Savage Land lol (or whatever they called it)

Based on the comic art, I feel the lack of head articulation is close to accurate to me since he doesn't have a neck. His head connects to his shoulders. He is a man ray

It has been my preferred canon for TMNT for over 30 years. I highly recommend it. IDW collected almost the entire series (they left out about 7 "controversial" issues in the middle, which is a bummer), so they've been recently republished & are easy to pick up & get into.

Might be awful, but I felt the same way about black outlines on the Simpsons figures from Super7 and seeing the custom figures out there I’m totally in on those being needed. Would be fun to see, but I think that since these comic figures can fit with the cartoon ones it’s the better choice.
And I'm sure someone else said, but Ken Mitchroney & Chris Allan were the two artists who did the series. I prefer Allan's artwork, so I'm a little bummed they went with Ken's style for the figures, but I'm just ecstatic to have my preferred versions of characters & canon-exclusive characters (like Jagwar & Dreadmon).

He's a great figure. But no figure is worth $40. We need to get these figures back to $19.99 pricing.
I don’t think that’s every been the case for NECA, but these are far superior to anything Hasbro does
I disagree with the score. And the methodology is a problem- when your overall score is the average of 3 categories, and two categories are the same thing, your final experience will be strongly be colored by the articulation. If it does what it looks like it should do, posing is a 5/5. Maybe aesthetic, execution, value, and posing. If you’re bringing price into the equation, every Mafex/Mezco is a 0.
3.7 isn’t representative at all of the aesthetic quality. THAT much paint and sculpt, with 8 hands, a weapon, and 2 little friends for $40 is so much more value than say the upcoming $35 Marvel Legends Gamerverse Spider-Man repaint with 100% reused accessories, most of which don’t do anything well.
For NECA figures, you really need to add some caveat or bonus points for “this looks freaking amazing for a mass-produced figure”. I was recommended your channel looking at Alf reviews, and I think you gave him about the same score, which is ridiculous. Alf had a 5/5 posing for what he was- if Spider-Man has 3/5 articulation, that’s a problem. But a representation of a puppet that we basically never even saw walk on screen does not need Spider-Man articulation, he needs Alf articulation that is well-hidden in the sculpt.
⅔ of your categories are articulation, and for the “posing”, if they do a good job of getting into the poses you expect out of the character, that’s not a 3/5.
I appreciate your feedback and honesty. I think the ratings as individual categories still hold some merit, but the overall score doesn't seem to matter. In the end, the ratings are to give people a sense of what to expect in those categories. You're not going to expect a 5/5 articulation on Alf VS Spiderman, but it's not necessarily about being a 5/5 "for what he is". So maybe more of a "scale" than a rating. I have plenty that rank low but are "worth the price". Zogg and Man Ray have the same score, but Zog is worth it to me and runs 50 vs Man Ray at 40 (and I don't think he is worth is)
I love this figure personally, it's not perfect but looks great and is way better than what Super 7 offers for double the price
Yeah, and Super7 would probably charge $55 or $75 for this one. Insane!
