    We just returned from a week in Merida where we spent 2 days in Progreso Beach, 1 day in Chinen Itza, 1 day visiting indigenous Mayan communities, and the rest of the time exploring Merida. Yucatan is a beautiful state with rich culture, wonderful people, great food and shopping. We felt very safe the whole time. We loved our trip and hope to return.

    MAY 2024. Just spent 10 days in Progreso. Although this is the off season for most foreign travellers, Progreso is a very friendly, safe town, with many Restaurants and places to get a cold one as this time of year was 40C + most days. While, I was there, I noticed that there was not much nightlife, as most establishments were closed by 10:00 p.m.
    If you are looking for a safe and quiet destination the Progreso and area are ideal.
    Ideal for Retired expats and this area is growing at a phenomenal rate. Only 20 minutes from Merida with many big city options with Costco , Walmart and shopping centres.

      Other than the various ruins and cenotes, it's probably the most boring place we've ever lived. We're moving to Queretaro to escape the unbearable heat and humidity, and the lack of things to do besides eat and drink. And the food is pretty disappointing.

      I’m sure there are golf courses

    • @josephsmith961
      @josephsmith961 Před 9 měsíci +3

      There are no golf courses in Progreso. You'd have to go to Merida, and they don't list the fees. I know 2 of them are country clubs and you have to be a member. What's really important to know is you'll be playing golf in 100F+ weather with 60-95% humidity. We tried to play here, and it was miserable. And there's no diving in Progreso, the water is very murky and polluted from all the cruise ships coming and going, and dumping waste. Progreso as a concept, with the Malecon, is great, but the reality is it's a dirty, pebble beach with a strip of bars and sketchy "high end" restaurants, The vendors will drive you crazy on the beach too, waking you up even to try and sell you some junk trinkets.

    The prices on here are ridiculously off. Electricity is going to be 200+ a month if you want air conditioning. Internet starts at 60US. Water is the only thing that is really cheap. Take all of these BS prices and double or triple them. Progreso is NOT a resort area. It's a pebble beach with murky, polluted water, and about 2 dozen restaurants and bars. Food is sketchy at best, and because it's a stop off for cruise ships, they will try to rip you off. Lots of vendors driving you crazy selling crap, they'll even wake you up on the beach to try and sell you something.
    "Luxury" is in the eyes of the beholder. There is no such thing in Progeso unless you're wealthy. Don't watch these videos and expect honesty, because you're either being hustled by a real estate company, or the cruise industry. If you want nice beaches and a resort atmosphere, you'll have to go to Cancun, Tulum, Playa De Carmen, etc. This is a beach outing for your average local families, not rich tourists.

    • @4KTravelChannel
      @4KTravelChannel  Před 9 měsíci

      The prices are realistic, I don't know why you pay 3x the cost. Maybe because you are a foreigner.
