- Join me for my first week after moving to my recently purchased OLD STONE HOUSE in Monsanto Portugal. It's been a busy first week, making an outside bathroom useable and sorting through all the old furniture that has been left here to make space to store mine.
The inside of the house, currently two large unconnected rooms need to be fully renovated. Although I have water and electric to the property it is not functional so I am currently living in my van in the courtyard. Watch my video to see how I get on.

MY STORY
Rewind, July 2018, inspired by a friend, I had the ‘crazy’ idea that I would step out of life’s conditioning to enable me to live my life to its fullest. I made the bold decision to leave my job, buy a campervan, rent out my house and go travel the world.
After living in my van for three years, travelling to Scotland, Scandanavia and Europe and living in Portugal through Covid I decided to make a new life in Portugal. I am now renovating a previously abandoned village house on the west coast of Central Portugal to live a more sustainable life.

Best you wear a mask while clearing the dusty places, dangerous stuff to inhale & I'd bag up the insect larvae in the box & give it a good scrub.

I know what it’s like to be on your own for a period of time so apart from helping Theo out it was good for both of our souls to just chat chat chat 😀
My favourite Indie Projects videos were the ones where their farm was destroyed by a massive asteroid and then there was the other one where they were attacked by velociraptors. Or was that their just the thumbnails, can't remember now.
My favourite comments are the ones from jealous losers 😅😅🥸

The funniest one is where they pretended to renovate a tiny home for their forever home but couldn't move out of it fast enough to their secret villa in the mountains!
@@denisescally7090 Yup and not just pretended to live in a barn house, but they even dared asking for donations bc of fire on that secret (third!) property, even though the villa was not even touched by the fire! 😆

He pops by every few days but I believe he has a home as when I was out walking he was standing inside a property and started barking at me as if to warn me to not enter. He’s very timid though as doesn’t come close enough to pet. He is a gorgeous dog
Love the old chest and dresser you were left! The old truck insert can be fixed just put another support where the other is missing. Those inserts are so hard to find with old trunks that you really should keep it.

You need Theo. You should work together on one project at a time. That saves a huge amount of time and is loads more fun.
Theo will be coming over at some point. I’m actually going to have some builders help me out. The project is too big for me alone 😀

Your home is beautiful and your progress is outstanding. You are such a champion to help Theo. He is such a hardworking fellow and it is a shame his wife can't help him under the circumstances. He trucks on never the less and gets things done. He will do an amazing job on the stone house for sure. You and all the people who have moved to Portugal are great when a friend is in need. Considering the space, better to go for a large farmhouse kitchen table rather than a kitchen island. Much more versatile.😊
I’m probably going to have it hand made so that it acts as a table as well and the seats can be tucked underneath but it also allows me to prepare food with an amazing view out the back, once the French doors are there 😀

I wanted to say I'm glad you're not using the toilet in that shed you cleaned out because you would definitely have scoliosis at the end of using that! Lol😅.

I did watch you video about covering your cement beams. You can cover them easily with 1x6 or 8 1nd make fake beam if you need more support its easy without an architect. If it's structural you need an engineer. There are a lot of"easy"fixes for your dilemma. You have the wood supports on each side to screw into;half the job is done.

Leo recommended subscribing to your channel. That poor dog is in a bad way, she was hoping for something to eat but wasn't as lucky as the 2 cats. Wondering if the previous owner use to feed the poor mite. Hope someone will save her

Great work and content. I use the top trunk shelf as a spice container. I have a very small kitchen so I lay all my spice bottle down and store the shelf on top of my frig. Other wise my kitchen could not accommodate them since I have so many and they fill up the entire shelf.

Hi Suzette, bonus that you have an outdoor bathroom. Visitors can park there with a caravan and they can have the kitchen to use as well. A Washing line in corner can be disguised with bamboo trellis. All extra funds for you. Vintage caravans can be an option. Def two double gates to chain up with a lock a must. Lovely monument green postbox! And a pot plant outside your front door. Are you building a long patio and popping on 3 readymade door rain shelters? THey do add cottage appeal.Are you rendering the walls inside? Do share some ideas…please.

The pot plant is actually a mini Christmas Tree I bought last year. Need to put its lights on. Will definitely be sharing more in future videos. As always thanks for your useful comments.

Hi Suzette. You could also do beautiful floating shelves in your kitchen above your bottom cupboards.. it is the new rage in kitchen design. Especially if you use a good wood.. Ask Thoe how they built the shower and basin in the small house. They had a gas geyser to warm up their water for the shower. Is the back door going to have a window in to let light into the house?

Theo recommended your channel. You have a lot of work to do. The dog is male as he lifted his leg to pee.😊 females tend to squat. There's lots of stray cats about and locals don't tend to get them neutered so you will find lots of kittens.
Guess you will be stocking up on cat food,I'd recommend you buy dried food as it will feed more and cost is less. 😊

Great to have you here Sheila. I have three cats now that are here regularly. I am feeding them dried food but already need to buy more. If they stay I will get them spayed to prevent even more! I love cats but I don’t want to be overrun with them

It was €70,000 for the house and the land. But prices vary a lot across Portugal. The cheapest area is Central & Northern Portugal and have the best nature, mountains, lakes etc.

I will be using builders for some of it as I want to have a kitchen and living room as soon as possible. Then I can sleep in there until the bedroom and bathroom is done. But I’m going to do some of the other areas myself 😀
The dog is male. Females don’t pee like that. He probably belongs to someone nearby. Looks in good condition. Looks like a Portuguese Podengo, possibly mixed.
Hi Mary, I realised after he was male 😂 I’ve since seen him at what I think is his home nearby. It seems common for Portuguese dogs to take themselves off for a wander 😀
