A whole month's wait for one wave seems like scant reward but it's all relative. When you've waited for "that day", maintained you physical, mental and spiritual health to be ready for it, and worked so hard to be in position for the set waves between the rips, after you got up and at it early in the day to catch the wind right, it's an awesome feeling.
People [non surfers] don't often get to understand just how many variables there are to enjoying the sport/artform/spiritual exercise we love so much. Nate your family is an inspiration in the modern surfing community, truly in the grand tradition of names such as Keaulana and Aikau.
The Florence surf house is so obviously built on a foundation of hard work and love, and roofed with late drops, humility and honour.

Remember taking off thinking I was early on that one not paddling as hard as I should have, ended up being super late and held up by the offshore wind.
As I started making it down the face I tried dragging my legs in order to stay fully in control, didn't go as planned, don't know if I didn't put enough force into dragging my legs down the face or maybe backwash hit me who knows.
Still made it down to the bottom, pulled in but the lip landed too close to me.
My board got pulled so hard on that one I recall feeling the leash when it reached full extension and the maximum tension point as it broke.
Took a couple more on the head before being stuck in a rip, swam for 10 to 15mins all the way north of the beach and made it on the sand safe but really tired.

At 12:40 Exactly right. Hydration is crucial. Way more than food. Plus you want electrolytes. Fruit. Watermelon. Limes. Salt also. (the electrolytes are SODIUM, potassium, calcium, magnesium, i think those are the main 4. Plus B vitamins and whatnot can help.) Bananas. Coconut water.

Thanks to all those involved in this post…awesome to see all of these rides in big surf and with such challenging conditions. Just one suggestion; although your natural, sort of unkempt persona is a big part of your charm, Nathan, I suggest you drain your sinuses before doing the vlog…I wasn’t counting, but you must have plucked you left nostril at least a dozen times…I still love ya though, just saying.
