  • in this video number {521} How to Repair Laptop Charger, No Power Solution, i demonstrated How to Repair Laptop Charger, No Power Solution. #Laptop #Charger #repairing - (DEAD) No Power Solution | How to Repair Switch Mode Power Supply SMPS, this laptop Dell laptop charger using UC3842 current mode smps controller ic, it had no power, when power was connected or plugged in, it was not powering ON.
when i checked the voltage on DC rail on bulk dc capacitor, these were 330VDC but there was no output. then i checked voltage on vcc capacitor there were no voltage. vcc voltage are the most important for function of any ic. so that was the reason that pwm controller ic us3842 was not taking start. (uc3842, uc3843, uc3844, us3845, ka3842,ka3843, ka3844, ka3845 ics have the same pinout in their datasheet). pin number 7 is vcc pin, it must have vcc voltage for 3842 ic, it must have 12 working vcc voltage. these vcc voltage were missing due to the reason that the startup resistor was burnt. it was not providing initial vdd or vcc voltage to the ic. i checked that the original resistor was 180K ohm. for test purpose i connected 310K Ohm. (we can use a higher value resistor, it will cause a slower start)
explained practical How to repair switch mode power supply SMPS very easy. i shared my easiest and perfect troubleshooting techniques practical troubleshooting. smps concept and troubleshooting repairing or understanding repair switching mode power supply basics and working principle. also i discussed smps basics. after watching this video you can capable to:-

    Assalamu alaikum,
    Dear Sir,
I am very much thankful for your detailed teaching about the laptop charger repair. Last month I was listened your SMPS repair program. Everything was very informative. Even though I am a commerce graduate, I am interested in these electronic classes.
I repaired very many things at my home, my own things, but the result was failure. I am not responsible to anyone for the loss, except me. After hearing your valuable and detailed classes, I have a confidence to repair very small electronic things. Very much thanks.. Expecting more classes, and will go through your previous posts. subscribed for more.

Sir i've been come across some of smps recently and was greatly frustrated to find that the control chip or pwm ic was damaged due to heavy short circuit. Please do some videos on how a pwm gets damaged . what are the good design practices to prevent such kind of issues. Because once the pwm gets damaged it becomes very tough to find a new one in the market and we've to leav the whole power supply.

That startup vcc resistor is one of the first things to check in a dormant switching supply. Some resistors don't do well with a high voltage or large pulses across it. No overload, just quietly drift open.

nice job! i can understand now how to repair my macbook power supply. there is a certain hierarchy in electronics. capacitors and resistors have to support the operation of the IC and transistors. so the power supply really looks like a mix and match of many vendors products integrated to look like a single solution by the designer/oem.

I have PA-9E Flextronics 240W charger recently (seller said it's from Alienware laptop, bought it secondhand from online). It's written 19.5V on the spec, but only 19.08V when measured with multimeter. Also, when it connected with wattmeter, when idle/not connected to laptop, it's fluctuating between 0-1.9W (btw, this is level 5 efficiency adaptor. AFAIK, it shouldn't be more than 0.5W when idling/not connected to load. Because I had 19.5V 230W Delta charger, and it's 0.2W when idle/not connected to load). Is it something wrong, or is it safe to use in the future?

Hello there, just wanted to know that I have a dell laptop charger with the output of 19.5voltage which is what it’s showing however, when I plug the wire, it’s not charging onto my laptop. I have also bought a new charger and it’s charges but the old charger doesn’t charge up. I have bought 4 chargers as well but it’s also the same voltage for all for of them in the multi-meter. The needle pin of the charger is not damaged either. If there is a video for this, could you please send me the link to find out what the error is please?
