  • When it seems like the Ducks are about to be expelled from Eden Hall Academy, a familiar figure steps in to lay down the law and threaten the school's alumni board with long and costly litigation. Gordon Bombay is the man.

With all due respect, was Herb Brooks the inspiration of Gordon Bombay? I mean he WAS from Minnesota and coached Team USA olympic hockey, using amateurs while other countries used professional hockey players. You must see the movie "Miracle". That was also by Disney, and it was the best one I've seen since "The Mighty Ducks".

I'm surprised a lawsuit was the only thing they were worried about. Bare in mind, the beginning of the film shows they were given the scholarships after they won representing the US in D2, while it wasn't the Olympics, it was still a big deal and no doubt garnered some media attention. Not only could Bombay destroy them in court, imagine what would happen when the story hit the newspapers that they are revoking the team's scholarships without cause. "Greedy private school goes back on promises and leaves team USA's futures adrift" is the last headline they'd want to see. Patrons and doners to the school would be cutting ties with them to avoid the PR fallout so fast they wouldn't know what hit them.

Orion saw right through that and treated Charlie the way he asked (must be what the C on your jersey stands for). Orion doesn't owe an apology to anyone. He explained it in episode 3: after Gordon helps the team by slipping them a play, Alex confronts him and Gordon explains what happened. Basically after the Ducks got too hypercompetitive Gordon walked away from the team for good. I'm guessing that event happened after the old gang graduated or whatever. So Gordon walks away and becomes a college hockey coach but he is eventually forced to resign. You can see an article about that very briefly in the trailer actually. What happened was that one of Gordon's players was struggling financially, couldn't even buy tape for his stick so Gordon bought it for him. That kid went on to play pro for the Islanders fyi. But by buying that for him, Gordon inadvertently broke some NCAA rule or state law or something like that and he was forced to quietly resign and was banned from ever again coaching college hockey as a result. Then he inherited that rink from Jan, a rink that came with a ton of debt. All of that combined with Gordon's own hockey career which ended in injury all combined together to make him angry and bitter about hockey but he doesn't actually hate it, he admits that much. But helping this new team is slowly bringing out the old Gordon again and he even removes that No Hockey sign after talking with Alex about what had happened to him.

I know, me too. I never understood why he wasn't in the movie all the time. They could have written it into the script how the Ducks get a scholarship, but when at the school, they have to play for the Warriors because that's the team's name. Bombay could have started with all the inner workings of the law to get the school to do something about it, and while he's doing that, and trying to coach at the same time, the kids could have gone on with their shinanigans. And then this scene, and after that, that's when the Ducks made their deal with the Warriors, Warriors Die, Ducks Fly.
Bombay not being in it, and their new coach not wanting them to be Ducks until before the final game. Not to mention Dean Portman wasn't there until after the final game started. These are the reasons I didn't really like the third one. I have no idea why they did it like this. It would have been so simple to just leave the characters where they were, and have them have a rivalry with the new team.

If they ever wanted to make another movie, this is what would be a cool way of doing it. Get the original actor for Charlie, of course he'd be older now. Have him be dating a woman, and they are serious, like he wants to marry her serious. She has a kid that's his age during the second movie. The kid doesn't like Charlie, resents him even though he makes his mom happy and is trying his best to connect with him. Coach Bombay passes away during this time, it has to be something dramatic and big because this makes Charlie not skate again. Mirroring the death of Gordon's father and loss of his peewee championship, therefore leaving him so traumatized that he barely makes it through the minors because of it. The kid ends up coming across Charlies old Mighty Ducks gear, trophies and news clippings, realizing he was apart of his favorite team, the kid goes to Charlie to try and convince him to help his team out to win like he won. Charlie gets angry that he found that, even though he keeps it around, and they get into a fight, which therefore gets into a fight with the girlfriend. Coach Orion gets turned into the Yan/Han mentor role, and comes and visits Charlie. He ends up talking Charlie into taking over his team, Charlie has a solo skate moment like Gordon does, he has flashbacks of him and Gordon bonding. Through the next couple of games till the championship, Charlie and the son end up bonding, but ever since the fight, his girlfriend is unsure and during the middle of the championship, it takes the son to convince his mother that Charlie is worth it, they win the championship, she forgives Charlie and ends up marrying him, the old team gathers for the wedding.. Various cameos of the other actors placed through the movie, and there's your movie..
