I was about to click Ghost of Tsushima for GOTY but then I saw Animal Crossing and suddenly had a flashback of all the hours I spent just enjoying the game, all the friends I made, all those times it helped me get through the stress and panic caused by the pandemic. I almost teared up.

3 of the games nominated help that situation. FF7R, Doom Eternal, and Animal Crossing and they ALL deserve it. It was not an easy time for anyone.

@@letsBrn just hold down the R key(or whatever button it is on console) to skip cutscenes. I like they way they did story in 2016 more but in Eternal you can actually skip cutscenes which is something you can’t do in 2016.

I've never taken game awards seriously, they have zero credibility with me.
I’m gonna vote for them, not watch them, and then look up the results later so that I just get the damn answer and don’t have wait through subway commercials, talking heads, and random musical performances.

@@zackrose6261 Yeah, this stuff requires sponsorships and ads. It's just how it is. There isn't a commission or guilds like there are for movies and television.
I think the bigger issue is the categories. So many games can fit into a majority of the categories so it doesn't narrow down the field nearly enough
More than that game of the year (at least it’s definition according to them) needs to be changed. Also art direction I feel should be more creativity based such as hades just making something look more real isn’t good art direction, it’s good art but not good art direction.

@@TynologyGaming I’d almost argue that Game of the Year shouldn’t be objective because how can you make it that way? Game of the Year (in my opinion) can vary drastically. Games should be up for game of the year for different reasons. Either by completely mind blowing graphics (which I don’t think we’ve seen for a few years now) or narrative (which can be totally subjective) or just plain cultural impact. And relating to other categories such as art direction, I mean the name itself should tell it all it’s not “visual fidelity” it’s art direction. It’s what game has the most unique art style or most unique twist on the norm. I do think they should have a “visual fidelity” (or equivalent) category but art direction is not the place for such things.
@@TynologyGaming Animal Crossing definitely is not a prime example of good multiplayer and shouldn’t at all be there so I’d assume they problem put it there just because it has multiplayer even if it isn’t that good.

Final Fantasy VII Remake has by far the best & most versatile OST. Kinda sad you didn't even mention it. Rearrangement of the OG tracks are absolutely out of this world and new track are amazing. And it's so gigantic. Like 12 disc gigantic. (OST + OST Plus) And all of it is amazing!

Honestly the biggest problem with the content creator of the year selection was that everybody on the list was not known too most people. AT most you knew 2-3 people. Kudos to you if you knew all 5
there actually was a couple controversies in animal crossing. 1: After it was used by Hong Kong activists to spread pro-democracy messages it got banned in China. 2: A white player posted an image of her character on social media and people claimed she was appropriating black culture with the fact she was wearing one of the more traditionally African American hairstyles

Animal Crossing had a whole 3-page spread in the Arizona Republic (our newspaper) for being so impactful. When putting it in the context of the pandemic, nothing else compares. It came at the literal perfect time for people looking for an escape.

Came here to confirm that TLoUPart2 actually ended up winning the GoTY award. I just don't get why such a game hated by gamers alike still won. It's not even that impressive - more of the same, better graphics. It was either rigged or the name played a big part on that. Anyway, I think other games deserved that award.

Doom Eternal was my goty. It was absolutely awesome! The gameplay, music, and graphics were what pushed me over the edge for it to win and even the story wasn’t half assed it was good.

Doom eternal is where it went downhill for me. Too much story, probably even more than Doom 3 and it started having RPG elements and puzzle enemies that ruined it. Not to mention it felt more like a Quake game than a Doom game.
@@ashleyjohansson230 honestly that’s what made me love it. The quake side of things is fast paced and requires constant mothering to the enemies. Doom 2016 was the Doom side while Eternal was the quake side. Also I didn’t mind the story in fact the lore got extremely interesting and it wasn’t shoved into my face so I didn’t mind as I could also skip cutscenes.
@@ashleyjohansson230 well that’s you and that’s fine but Doom eternal imo is the peak of Doom, it’s not like the lore is in the way and it’s interesting if you want to look more into it if not then it’s not too bad, idk what rpg elements you are referring too atm, the puzzles aren’t that hard it’s pretty simple easy if you pay attention and if you need it they give you hints if you don’t turn that off, but if it isn’t for you that’s fine you got other doom games to play still lol

It still baffles that Among Us got nominated. Why? It came out in 2018. If it came out in late 2019 after the deadline, then I would understand why it got nominated, but no. The only reason why it got nominated is because it got popular which should not be a reason

I agree Animal Crossing deserved game of the year I cried pure tears of joy when they announced it and was so glad I got it day one, I bought it for myself and a friend who is on the other side of the united states and we play EVERY SINGLE DAY, we bounce between each others islands, EVERY SINGLE day and it came at a stressful time for all and its a a game he could still enjoy even when the use of one hand was non existent and he had to wait 7 months before he could get surgery to correct the issue. Animal Crossing has always been a love of mine since it was on the GameCube but NH has a very special place in my heart

@@notchedbandit TLOU 2 is definitely more generic. The gameplay is the same as the first game that came out 7 YEARS ago. People hating on the story is getting blindsighted from looking at the repetitive and extremely non innovative gameplay

@@wreckitralph4714 i’d say its a little more complicated than that, people in small town america are completely dwarfed by urban america, without the college they would likely suffer, but at the same token the small states are given too much power when they can overturn the popular vote by millions of votes

I agree with your choice of Animal Crossing for GotY. I know and spoke with so many people who say that game is what got them through the beginning of lockdown and all the stuff happening this year. It was one of the few things at the time that helped to keep people sane during isolation and allowed them to reach out and interact in their own way with friends and other people. Does the game have it's flaws, yes, like most games it does, however this was the game we needed at the perfect time.
I'll also add in that the game pulled in so many people that had never touched that franchise before and even some people that for the most part didn't play games. Definitely not an easy feat to accomplish. Overall it was just a chill, comforting, and relaxing game that was the perfect thing we needed in 2020.

Almost every award. it missed 1 or 2. I'm a fan o last of us never played part 2 so I can't say if it should win or not. But from what I herd it was a great game people just hated part of the story and the switching characters.
And the only one it deserved was best performance

I'm shocked that among us is eligable considering it technically didn't come out this year. I know it blew up this year but that's technically not what the rules evaluate when considering eligibility. That's why games that have a horrible halfbaked/not finished launches but get HUGE DLC expansions 1 year later aren't eligible (No Man Skies, Sea of Thieves, ect).
Don't get me wrong, it 1000% deserves the exception, i'm just surprised they made one for it.
It could win Best Ongoing Game category. I'm guessing they will have that category again this year.
