  • Students around the world are told they must ‘Learn to Code!’ This certainly
sounds great, but why should you learn to code? Will it really help you accomplish
your personal goals or land your dream job? We’ll see how learning to code is only a
part of joining the digital revolution, but we’ll go further to explore how you can
harness technology to your unique way of impacting the world. Learn how you can
shape the future by not just learning to code, but learning to create.
Justin Richards is the Founder/CEO of Youth Digital that has taught over 40,000 students how to create with technology. Justin leads a team of 40 passionate people in delivering amazing technology courses for students in over 100 countries. Students as young as age 8 learn how to create everything from apps to mods to fashion collections.
Prior to starting Youth Digital at age 22, he taught technology courses to students in downtown St. Louis. Justin grew up helping his family start computer schools in Romanian orphanages and taught himself to develop and design as a hobby, before turning that passion into Youth Digital. In the end, Youth Digital is a place that Justin would have loved as a child.

My advice to new coders. I am a software developer in the development field for the last 10 years. And forget about jumping into learning a new framework or new technology. Focus on the core raw concepts of code itself. Understand them deep. For e.g., I would highly recommend any new coder to either take up javascript or python as their first coding language. These 2 are highly relevant in today's commercial space. Learn the basics thoroughly, deeply. It will take you close to a year or self study and practise to get them at your finger tips. Then practise those concepts. And make mistakes. its ok. make them at the start. Learn from the error and learn what concept you got it wrong. Over time, develop the habit of reading code and having the skillset to understand what others have written, especially good code. Writing code is a long journey and not something that can be done in 3 months or so people. Hit me up if you want to know more tips as I will be happy to share with you folks. happy coding!

@@ananyathakur8229 Hi, congrats on choosing to become a software engineer. Regarding your question on c++, yes you are definitely in the right path. Let me explain. In a real world project, you might be a javascript developer but you might be also required to know a little kotlin, java or go depending on what role you are given. Different languages differ in their syntaxes and also the way they are written (i.e the design principles behind the language itself). End of the day, all languages have the same concepts, if else conditions or loops, variables , functions etc. c++ is a lower level language. by learning them your understanding of java or python should be better. for algo resources, you can check out leetcode or hackerrank. leetcode is my personal favourite as it has sample interview questions from companies such as amazon or microsoft

Learning that stuff is so difficult but because of that you are more motivated to do it. One day I was so mad because the previous day I couldn’t finish a program and I was so angry that I said to myself : now you’re gonna take you’re freaking computer and you’re gonna solve the problem. I did it and now my game was working perfectly, but I already knew that the next day I was going to deal with another problem and I’ would get mad again, but despite that I knew that in two days I would know how to solve the problem and that it was going to be like this forever and that’s what does not give me up. Coding it’s not just a challenge in the “code” it teaches you that you’ll always deal with problems, in life, relationships etc. but only if you keep moving forward you’ll get everything you started for. This goes to all the people that never give up, that are always in search for new adventures and opportunities. To those that don’t know what to do with their life, to procrastinators, to creators and thinkers that help the world moving forward. Thank y’all to be what others did not want you to be.

"You live in a world of magic, you can find out anything instantly." this really stuck with me. This is exactly what I try to explain to people who have the idea of thinking they want to do something but not knowing where to start. You can do ANYTHING you've EVER wanted with a plethora of FREE resources with this little thing called Google. You can find sheet music to any song, you can find entire documentation on any programming language ever created, you can find free 3D models for almost anything you want to 3D print, you can find free courses from top colleges like Stanford and Harvard on their website's. The only thing stopping you is yourself. You have every opportunity in the world handed right to you. You live in a world of magic, and yet this is the world we live in. I'm now teaching myself PHP and MySQL to build dynamic websites and I'm learning more and more everyday. Just today I learned how to upload my code to GitHub. Tomorrow I'll learn how to do something else, and then something after that.
