Vinny Kilkeary {R} of Pennsylvania defeated Marcus Blaze {G} of Ohio by Ultimate Tie-Breaker 2-1 - Sport
On November 5th, 2023, high schooler Marcus Blaze defeated the #1 ranked 125 lb NCAA wrestler, Matt Ramos, at the Clarion Open. In addition to being a world champion, Ramos is known for his upset victory by fall over three-time champion Spencer Lee at the 2023 NCAA championships.
I was wondering if this was 2020 because the face mask no judgment but glad to know the date
@@CoffeeisnecessarynowpepperThe date of every match is recorded in each video description. This match was shot in 2021. The reference to 2023 in my comment above is about a much more recent match which I did not record but is still noteworthy because many consider the result to have been a significant upset.
@@MidwestWrestle ah okay
Another great video of another great match. Thanks
So the guy who lost here beat the NcAA champ while still in HS??!!
Just to let you know, the quality of the videos and your eye for the perfect shot is amazing too.....keep it up.
Thrilling and strong!💪 Great match, men!
Blaze fought well despite his very visible eye injuries. Thanks again, Midwest Wrestle!
Kilkeary is a tenacious young man, can’t wait to see more of him.
Congratulations to the winner, a hard road to victory, well done, also great camera work, cheers CB Australia 🇦🇺👍💪
I like Vincent, he’s really good, and he’s just gonna get better.
Seeing a high schooler pin a collegiate level athlete is not something you see everyday. Props to both of these young men for all their hard work and dedication.
Они оба сильные борцы и не давали с собой вертеть как хочется. До последнего минуты смотрел за этим поединком и только ждал, кто из них уступит. 👍💯😍
Awesome show! 😄
So many studs coming into d1.
Going to be fun to watch
1:44. In, these two seem evenly matched. Both showing tenacity.
💪🏼😤🤜🏼 💥💥 💪🏼🤨🤜🏼
are they really short?
Great match. 👍
Great match up. I would definitely watch these guys going at it again.
Great match, never underestimate the physicality of those light/fly weights. They are constantly moving
Awesome match ✌️💪😎
These guys twins? Great match up
Am a new fan of this sport. What are the weight and/or age categories of these matches?
Not easy to film, but the cameraman is on the ball. Lots of good action at this level. Thanks!
Thank you and welcome to the sport! The weight classification is actually the number at the beginning of every video title in pounds. In this case, this is a 113 lb match. The default age group is high school, unless otherwise specified in one of two ways: 1) If you "12U", "10U", etc., then that means "12 & Under", "10 & Under", etc. Or, if you see that the institution they represent is a university, then you can assume they are of college age.

Please feel free to comment any time you have a question not answered above or below:
Q. What do {G} and {R} in the video title mean?
A. They refer to the green and red ankle bands which the wrestlers wear, and the wristbands which the referee wears, that are used for scoring purposes.
Q. Who won the match?
A. Those details can be found in the description for each video.
Also New Fan!
@@oscarfernandez7912Thrilled to hear it, welcome aboard!
I haven't watched in a while, and I was impressed with video quality. Very crisp and clear. New camera or just a better/closer position? I don't know, but it was a great match.
@@Walkerbtween Thank you for the positive feedback, I appreciate it. I've been using the same camera for a few years now: czcams.com/users/postUgkx0bz78690XN-ungZt5nNN0eoJC2oEg1e8

Thank you!
Are these guys twins competing against each other??
Love the battle wounds. Two true young warriors out there!
are you referring to the eyes of the kid in the grey suit? wrestling seems to carry quite a lot of different risks of injury
Yeah, would you still “love” the wounds if the kid got a torn retina of the eye?
They look like twins separated at birth.
I was thinking the exact thing. It’s amazing really.
Hell yeah
They do, don't They.
Marcus blaze is currently trending.
Thanks!
Thank you, again!
Dude in red is a boss. Tons of swagger and confidence.
Great name. Marcus Blaze. Sounds like a pro wrestler. Maybe someday.
Regarding Blaze's upset of Ramos, I'd love to know how a high schooler qualifies to compete in a tournament full of college wrestlers. Ramos, by the way, wrestled in the third-place match after losing to Blaze. Would you have wanted to wrestle a #1 ranked college wrestler after he loses to a high schooler? I doubt Nick Babin did. Ramos pinned Babin in 17 seconds!!!
Immediately after his upset of Ramos, Blaze lost 6-4 in the final to Brayden Palmer of UT Chattanooga (a former two-time state champ with a 197-4 high school history). Blaze is now a high school junior. Last spring, he capped off a 62-1 season (he must compete every other day!) with a state championship at 120 pounds.
Vincent Kilkeary, who is now at Ohio State, had to wrestle Matt Ramos in the first round at Clarion (tough first round!!!). Ramos beat him 5-0. Kilkeary then won three matches before losing in the consolation quarterfinals to Caleb Weiland of Michigan State.
Thank you for the additional context, as always!
Similar to the Midlands Championships in the Chicago suburbs, the Clarion tournament is an "Open" as opposed to an "Invitational," so aspiring high school wrestlers have been known to test their mettle at these events. Last year at the Clarion Open, high schooler Jax Forrest pinned a senior college wrestler. More details in the pinned comment on this video: czcams.com/video/zcvMoSB30TA/video.html
Great follow-up,thanks
Looks like both these guys have been through a war.
Good luck for the win
they look as if they were in a box fight before ;-) great fight.
They look like twins!
they look like brothers
Whoever thought placing metal dividers next to a wrestling mat is a good idea is wrong.
For some reason, I just keep hearing Wanda, from In Living Color saying "you ain't got to go nowhere. I got you. You mine".
Two warriors. In a match like this it's a shame that there has to be a 2nd. place.
There isn't a second place. There's the winner, and the first looser!😂
Молодцы , ребята ! 👍
Blaze needs to attack more he gave that match away when he thinks offense he's almost unstoppable he waa scared to make a mistake let it fly trust his abilities great match bet next time he will be more aggressive on offense
Im curious, why arent they wearing head gear?
Although headgear is mandatory by rule at scholastic and collegiate events during the regular wrestling season, privately run for-profit off-season tournaments such as this one have the flexibility to choose which rules they want their referees to enforce, and they often elect to relax several rules including that one.
@@MidwestWrestle thank you!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
খুব অসাধারণ অসাধারণ খেলা
If they werent in different singlets, id think these guys were clones of each other.
I noticed gray has a black eye and bruised thigh ouch
why did they look beat up?
Silly question maybe, not a lot of wrestling where I live. What is the G and R by their names mean?
Welcome to the channel! That's not a silly question at all, it's actually one of the two most common:

A. They refer to the green and red ankle bands which the wrestlers wear, and the wristbands which the referee wears, that are used for scoring purposes.
Q. Who won the match?

Also thanks for info on g and r. What an awesome match!
Refs f-ed this match up- Blaze should’ve gotten awarded the dump takedown in the 1st period and the pancake on the edge in the 2nd.

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 great
wow those two look like twins or is it just me?
They got Ellen out here wresling
*Nice to see a match without loudmouth coaches giving instructions for a change.*
This looks like the kind of sport that could tear a retina in an eye. (Did you see his eye injuries)? These coaches push them way too hard.
💯
I don’t understand how someone winds but it looked like the one in gray was winning but the one in white was stronger and over powered the other one and then towards the one in grey showed some fast moves and took him down. 🤷🏼♂️ good match!

show the score!
Played the strategy. Wasn't really working for a win, just trying not to get scored on. I don't like kilkeary style n this one.
Marcus is the boy on red?
Marcus Blaze is wearing the green "{G}" ankle band, Vincent Kilkeary is wearing the red "{R}" ankle band.
@@MidwestWrestleThanks. I’ve been trying to figure out how the {G} and {R} identified the wrestlers and I’ve never noticed the ankle bands.
What’s up with the weird filter
You saw it too? 😂 I thought for a good few seconds that I suddenly became a clairvoyant as I could see auras around them. Wasn't sure if it was just me seeing this
So when did they stop wearing headgear? These kids are getting a lot of facial injuries, I’ve noticed. Did the rules change or something since I was in HS- which is a long time ago.

Interesting. What do you think of that?@@MidwestWrestle
Marcus 8th grade?? Vinnie a Jr? Big difference
you can go olympic !
💪😎🔝
You cut out all the foot work with too much zoom.
I agree. I got that feedback several months ago and I no longer shoot that way in neutral anymore, but unfortunately the backlog of archived matches is so big because of how much work each video takes, that you'll still be seeing the old filming style for a while. There are some current matches at the top of the channel page that reflect the newer shooting style.
@@MidwestWrestle Yeah that was probably me a few months ago too. But I understand.
There has also been a change in the definition of the picture, in the earlier videos when the channel first started what ever filter you were using kind of equalized the skin tone of the wrestlers and it looked good. It was almost like watch Greek Statues wrestling, but now the filter you use has so much definition you can see patchy skin and like the different coloration on the skin; but I think it looked better before.
@@polomadmo You were definitely one of them, but you weren't alone. Generally speaking, I look for trends in feedback before making significant changes. Just like with the shot framing, you're also not alone in your feedback on the color grading. I am always experimenting, and by definition, sometimes experiments don't work out. The one thing to keep in mind is that nothing is permanent, and I will continue experimenting while incorporating feedback from viewers such as yourself. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts, I appreciate it.
WTF - that's cruel having those kids injured like that. Shame on their trainers and their parents SMH
What? Are you an effeminate male?
Don't like your end result coloring.
