- December 18, 2022 - 34th Annual Al Dvorak Invitational Individual Wrestling Tournament at Harlem High School in Machesney Park, Illinois
Vance Williams {G} Woodstock Marian IL defeated Aaron Camacho {R} of Bolingbrook IL by 6-4 - Sport
This was a match between two very young highschoolers who both have state titles in their sights. VANCE WILLIAMS was enroute to a 41-8 record and a state runner-up finish in Illinois 1A-132 at the time of this match, and he was only a sophomore!! He would be a good bet to graduate in 2025 with two state titles in 1A. Aaron Camacho was even younger, a freshman at the time of this match, and finished 5th in the state in 3A-126. He, too, has enormous state title potential.
Thank you so much, Nima, for all your travel, videography, and editing. It is greatly appreciated by tens of thousands of wrestling fans worldwide.
Can't wait to see more from Vance! Will be watching his career with great interest!
VW dominated this entire match, didn't he!? Cheers
Fantastic camerawork of a great match. Some moments were eye watering!
1:54 damnnnn
Another really good competitive match from you all.great camera work feels like you right there.hope you all had a very merry Christmas and have an even better happier new year.
To the coaches. Shut up. If you have not done your job and taught them the moves and when to use them before the match. It's to late. By yelling at them you are just showing what you did not teach them that was important.
Oh so true!
Society can’t even get online wanna-be experts to shut up, and they’re even less useful.
Smh....lol
Coaches are teachers, some students are slower learners. Why should a teacher give up on his students? So why not just eliminate all coaches from being at the venue for all sports...make them stay at home and hope for the best...lol. It's not broke...don't try to fix it.
He's telling them ideas in the moment
Hands down for Vance 👏👏 another great match!!
Your videos are always worth to watch. This was a nice match because the wrestlers are pretty even in strength and skills. Perfect filming of the ground fight. Thanks for sharing with us and happy holidays!
Thank you!
More matches from the Dvorak please. Love the vids
terrific young men, disciplined, skilled -- great to see !
I enjoy these meets much more when I turn the sound off.
More matches of Vance please.
That was intense 👏🏾👏🏾good match
1:53 gave me goosebumps. I'm glad the arm didn't break.
Omg 😱 yes that was concerning
Damnnnn
I stopped watching the video at that point 😖😖
Did it pop out of place? It doesn't look normal. 😱
And 3:44. I am glad the neck didn't break.
Pretty well matched, but Vance looked stronger.
Happy holidays to all!
Great match, cheers CB Australia 🇦🇺 💪👍
This match is insanely intense!
To me it looks like by 8:23 it was a stalemated position and the ref should have whistled it by then, but it went on for nearly another minute.
Looks like the winner tapped his opponent at the back of the circle as if to say Good Try. A nice touch.
Vance took it ....hands down!
vance is a wrestler to look out for
Way to go guys!
1:53 holy shit😮
I have seen Vance fighting in the past and he's young but a beast fighting, I've seen what he's able to. Camacho is for sure a great fighter bearing on mind Vance capabilities, Camacho gave it all!. Pattience, cold mind, strenght... These young men have it all to win not just fighting but everything in life.
Great match!
Awesome match
Great
amazing!
what a match!
3:51 he was upset
I much prefer to watch with the audio muted. Appalling yelling from the coaches. Slow speed is great for analysis of moves.
Glad I’m not the only one
what a match 👍👍
1:53 it looks like he dislocated his shoulder??? Jesus
ahora soy fan de Vance
Yo también
1:53 Holy sh!t, what physics are being that, how did his arm not snap
That's where the training comes in
Elastic wrestlers
Is it generally practiced after covid to disinfect the mats between the matches? I do wish that coaches were not allowed to shout out instructions during the match it is annoying as a on looker and it must be distracting as HELL to many of the wrestlers.
What grade are they in
The guy in red looks like a freshman (year 9). He's probably around age 14 or 15.
Some of the moves looked painful like smacking your knees on what looks like cement at rapid speeds and the possibility of some joints over-extended. Great sport though!
"cement" hahah
A question: Can wrestlers ACTUALLY process the advice being shouted by the coaches from the sidelines? Does it actually help? Can a wrestler hear" grab him under the arm" (or whatever the more technical term is) and do it immediately to help himself? Seems to me there's not time to adapt like that.
It depends on a number of factors (overall background noise at the tournament, pace of the match, etc.), but as a wrestling official I can tell you that I've observed countless occasions where wrestlers do implement the guidance that their coaches are shouting at them. Having said that, I've also observed a number of instances where wrestlers hear the guidance and intentionally disregard it, much to their coach's frustration. Finally, I've also observed countless situations where the background noise and the sheer number of voices (fellow wrestlers, parents, fans, etc.) make it impossible for the wrestler on the mat to distinguish any single voice. That latter point is also something that frequently gets overlooked-coaches tend to catch the most flak in the comments section, but what many may not realize is that statistically speaking fellow wrestlers on the team are just as likely to be responsible for the shouting we hear.
@@MidwestWrestle Thanks for your excellent and informative response. I can see how, say, a tennis player might process coach's strategy, but wresting is faster and more immediate, so it seems miraculous that they can actually make any changes based on coach comments. I sometimes think part of it is merely a tension release for the coaches themselves, and now that I think of it, I suppose a coach might yell advice like that not because they think their wrestler can adopt the new strategy but rather so the wrestler hears the coach's tone and interprets it as support, regardless of the actual wording. Is that a possibility?
@@paules3437 You are more than welcome, and yes-coaches have told me firsthand that what you described absolutely occurs as well (e.g. venting, supporting, etc.). With regard to making changes based on commentary, motion isn't always constant... there are lulls in wrestling, and that is when advice is most likely to be received and implemented. I see this most commonly when one wrestler is in control of the other down on the mat, and neither wrestler knows how to improve their seemingly stalemated position. At that point, coaches will shout the names of moves they trained on in practice that the wrestlers may not have otherwise remembered to use due to the fog of battle.
@@MidwestWrestle Most interesting. I think wrestling would be improved if they had ACTUAL fog on the mat. as you say! Thanks for the info.
Video is better on mute 🔕 they should have the coaches wrestle they seem to know everything
Coaches should be quiet and let the athletes wrestle with only their skills. It is annoying and distracts from the competition.
Did no one else notice at 3:45 that Aaron rolled over with a backward-bent head and all of Vance's weight on him? What a tough kid! Hope he's okay.
I totally saw that. That was cringe worthy. I thought for sure he was hurt.
These guys are trained to be like elastic.
😅
All the screaming makes me think they know exactly what to do but its not so simple to execute. Makes the focus that much more strained for the athlete. And two of them yelling at one nahh issa wrap
👏👏👏👏👏
The atmosphere in the gym is so stressful for the wrestlers. But i guess it's ordinary for them.
Just the average high school wrestling tournament
Camacho a freshman btw 😅
💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
Why are they yelling so loud😂😂
1:53 WTF
The coaches need to shut up. If the wrestler does not know the moves it is to late and the coaches falt.
Fred Flintstone yelling constantly..... So annoying
1:53 - how that didn't end in a serious injury, is beyond me. It sure didn't look good.
I think it's Marion, Il
Marian Central Catholic High School is in Woodstock, Illinois. It is referred to as "Woodstock Marian" in order to differentiate it from "Chicago Marian", also known as Marian Catholic High School in Chicago, Illinois. Marion High School in Marion, Illinois is unrelated.
Dam red gave up... its always about the mindset... making your opponent feel defeated mentally
It doesn't all come down to "mentality."
the coaches need to STOP screaming. It's so annoying. I used to do this and my coach screaming or hearing the enemies coach was SO annoying and it threw me off lots. you cant zone in on your opponent like that
Well 14 years against 18 year old how is he supposed to win
i dont pretty much understand the mechanics of this sport.
Welcome to the channel. I recommend the following website to help with understanding the foundational concepts of Folkstyle wrestling:

Please feel free to comment any time you have a question not answered above or below:
Q. What do {G} and {R} in the video title mean?
A. They refer to the green and red ankle bands which the wrestlers wear, and the wristbands which the referee wears, that are used for scoring purposes.
Q. Who won the match?
A. Those details can be found in the description for each video.
There’s gotta be rules to forbid coaches, parents, and douchbags to bark on the side as it’s very annoying and distracting. I wonder those idiots don’t shoot one another for barking as no one really wants to hear them. Let the players play fairly. They think those kids listen to them barking anyway? I highly doubt.
Just to clarify, per the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Case Book section 12.2: "During the course of any match, it is permissible for the coach or personnel on the team bench to give directions and encouragement to the wrestler on the mat, provided the instruction is given in a sportsmanlike manner. Examples of acts that are always unsportsmanlike include: (a) the use of an artificial aid, mechanical device or electronic communication device; (b) attempting to influence the decision of the referee or disrespectfully addressing a referee or indicating objections to a referee’s decision; (c) baiting, berating or criticizing the opponent; or (d) acts which incite the crowd. Unsportsmanlike conduct by the coach or other team personnel shall be penalized by the deduction of one team point for the first offense and by removal of the offender from the premises and the deduction of two team-points for the second offense. If the individual being removed is a wrestler, they are to be removed from the premises only if there is an authorized school personnel available to supervise."
Maybe learn something about the sport before you start barking advice to the coaches of it. Good lord.
Coaches need to shut up and let the kids do their thing
vance
You have about 5 people all yelling different things to do. That would annoy the F**** out of me. Get your sideline game together and elect one person to give direction. Pretty sure these guys don;t know wth to listen to
All that yelling would not help me. I would want to stay focused and that yelling would distract me
The tan kid keeps trying that Meyers roll. This is actually one of the first times I ever saw that used in a match. Lmao
That coach's voice is so annoying
God bless everyone Jesus loves you all
