- In this video I am demonstrating the use of the new FSLabs A321-X CPDLC system.
A big thank you to the VATSIM controllers (VACC-Austria www.vacc-austria.org ), especially McChester who helped me greatly in the making of this video. Here is the link to his Twtich channel:
/ mcchester
He also made a video about this CPDLC flight, showing the functions of his TopSky radar setup:
• Topsky Plugin CPDLC

Thanks captain! As always, a “must see” video. And yes, I think the community will appreciate a hoppie acars installation video. Have a happy Christmas!
The best Christmas gift!
I love this channel it’s so amazing thank you for all the tutorials on the FSLabs A320 :) !
More brilliance by FSL and your great self, Blacky. My good wishes for a great New Year.
Thx for this intersting topic and new video.
And merry Christmas and good start into 2020 to you!
Hello Blackbox, I'm a fan of your tutos, never missed one of them and in this poor humain period Im rich of your lessons and, of course, my personnal FSLabs A320. My brother and me having the same aviation passion we use every day to practice this aircraft through your tutos. I learn a lot of things about flying an airliner and I'm begining to be a "true" captain onboard (hum... not really, but...). Thank you very much for your great job, your kind, précise and patient explanations. Waiting for you in your next vidéos.
Your channel is amazing, I really enjoy all of your videos. Fun fact I was just finishing the Instrumentation chapter on COMMS FANS just before watching your video 😂
Great and informative video as always! Thanks and greetings from Italy!
Thank you. Greetings to Italy 🇮🇹
Merci beaucoup for all your work and the high quality videos you share with us. All the best for 2020.
My pleasure. Happy new year to you too.
You read my mind with this upload, thanks!
Thank you for this video! It would be great to see a video demonstration of correct speed management technique in the 321. Particularly around the very different “tape speeds” flap speeds, VLS, etc. Especially critical at high gross weights. Thanks.
Great Video, thanks for the useful information for all our pilots on VATSIM!

Perfect as always. Best regards HobbyPilot
I WAS WAITING SO MUCH FOR THIS ONE ! MERRY CHRISTMAS YOUR THE SANTA
Thanks again for your amazing content. Great channel.
Thank you very much!
You’d inadvertently selected ATT/HDG to CAPT at 5:35. Rectified soon afterwards though. Great video as always.
Looks beautiful!!! I WANT THIS HOME AS A LATE GIFT FOR CHRISTMAS!!!
Thank you so much, I just got my first ever logon accepted from Maastricht Radar thanks to you!! Love the old tutorials
Hi. Thank you very much. I am happy to hear my tutorial helped you 👍🏼
Can't wait to have it!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much for explaining! I'm really glad that FSLabs added this. This adds so much more realism! :)
Upgrading to a tower in 2020... can’t wait!
Thank you for another great video!
Thank you!
Thanks for the awesome tutorial i am also looking to make a full tutorial on how to make use of cpdlc and how PDC works
I work to interconnect the ground systems for this, what an insight, even though a virtual one. Plus the knowledge you share on your live streams certainly complement the engineering aspect, from the operating pilot point of view. Do you happen to be a test/technical pilot at work (due your privacy, you don't have to answer this :)) that perform evaluation on this for your airline? Again, what an insight, keep it coming Captain. Thanks.
Hi. Thank you very much for your kind feedback. I don’t have a special function at my airline. The technical side of an aircraft has always fascinated me. May I add that I have high respect for all engineers and mechanics working on these marvelous machines. Take care.
Really good video... 4:25 on the ECAM looks like you left Ignition mode on 😂 must’ve been in a hurry
Nice video 👌
very informative. thank you
Awesome video and awesome functionality. 👏👍
Question: After transferring controllers (as demonstrated at the end of the video) do you still need to contact the new controller by voice? 🤔
You alwys need to contact the new controller via voice. Even if the CPDLC transfer to the new ATC station was successful. The reason is that Voice is still primary over mainland Europe. So you would call "XXX, FLxxx, CPDLC".
Blackbox711 Good to know. Thank you!
Great system for introvert us to cut down the talking time :P One day I'm gonna buy it, till then will enjoy it by others flying it
It looks awesome. I wish i had a pc good enough to run FSL at 20 fps.
The devs of FSLabs have improved FPS performance with the latest versions. So with medium settings in P3D you should be able to reach 30 FPS with a medium range PC.
Blackbox711 i agree for A319 and A320. Unfortuneately for me the A321 is a big performance hit :( up tp 25% less fps then with 319/320.
I have the fsx version of the a-320 and I get between 20-25fps with everything turned up and I only have an I3 9th generation.

@@noel12397 nice video
I have such a hard time understanding ATC some times this is so much better...
Would be great to get a video how to set up CPDLC system with Vatsim..
@Blackbox711 Great work. I recently started flying Fslabs A320 on FSX. And the aircraft shakes unnecessarily in between especially on final approach even in calm winds. So is this due to some bugs in the aircraft itself or due to the frame rate?
Hi. Thank you. That must be some bug because that shouldn’t happen. Are you using any other addon like Active Sky or RealTurb?
@@Blackbox711 I just use FSRealWx for real time weather and ProATCX for the comms. No other add-on.
@@294rahul hmmm. Something seems to interfere. Does it happen with other aircraft as well?
@@Blackbox711 Yes with Aerosoft A320 also. But not with PMDG and similar add-on.
@@294rahul I am wondering if it does have to do with your PC specs.
thanks for the video, but could you make a video on how to use Vatsim form A to Z ? I never never been on VATSIM because I don't know any phraseology...
Sorry, but that is way too much info to get into a video. My Twitch subscribers have access to workshop files regarding VATSIM communication procedures. Also on the VATSIM official website you will find some excellent tutorial files.
Excuse me Sir ! Would you please make a turorial video on how to fly a perfect asigned DME ARC when approching an airport, and how to use the FMC to facilitate this job. Thank you.
Hi. If there is no published arc in the FMS you will need to fly it old fashioned with the VOR mode. I think I have already published a video on this. Let me see if I can find it.
@@Blackbox711 Thank you so much !
hello blackbox you told me in your discord that cpu power is the greater influence in p3d's performance. can p3d benefit from an increased core count?
Hi. Yes, a load distribution over more cores helps. However with P3D V5 the CPU load is reduced with Direct X12 standard.
Is it compulsory or optional to connect cpdlc in every FIR that provided the service? Do we need to ask controller permission via voice communication first before connect it or we can simply try our luck to connect in those fir and wait for them to accept or reject the services. Regards
CPDLC is completely voluntary. If you want to use it, either enter the correct logon code (e.g. LOVV or EDMR) or ask the controller for the code.
thanks
When you change the sector, do you have to logoff and logon in the next sector manually, or is there a function, which do this automatically for you? Like this function with the ATC-COMM Frequency....
Hi Burkhard. If the next sector is offering CPDLC then the transfer goes automatically. No need to re-logon with the nect ATC station.
To add to Blackbox' answer - that depends if the ATC client is set up correctly. Especially when using alternate logons, for example if another network is using the "normal" logon, the automatic handoff may have problems. In that case one has to logon again on the downstream sector.
Great video! Can you please make a video tutorial for Hoppie CPDLC for non-FSLabs users? I'm still not sure even if it works without any aircraft with this function...
Hi. I have no idea how to use Hoppie without the FSLabs, sorry.
No problem, I know now, and I'm using it - quite intuitive, easy to use. And compatible with all type of aircraft, so - tutorial isn't needed. Cheers from Poland! ;)
How does it work when establishing contact over CPDLC during climb and descent?
Say you are climbing through FL285 having used voice communication, and now you are ready to connect to datalink. Is this done without any verbal
confirmation?
And a similar question for descent. When descending through FL285 and CPDLC no longer is valid, does ATC send a datalink prior to terminating CPDLC or is the switch back over to voice done without prior confirmation?
Thanks in advance!
Verbal communication is still being used as a primary means since it is the fastest way to get a new clearance across. So a CPDLC logon during climb/descent is done without verbal confirmation since both sides get a confirmation that they are now connected. ATC may then choose either CPDLC or voice communication for clearances and frequency changes.
Don’t confuse CPDLC as being a substitute for voice communication. CPDLC is an additional means of communicating. So a termination of CPDLC is initiated by either the Pilots or ATC. There will be a message on the display to let you know that CPDLC is terminated.
Hi BB711, Can you tell me why do you prefer VATSIM over IVAO, is it for technical reason? Easier to use? Better service?Better coverage?
Anyway, thank's a lot for your valuable expertise .
As you probably know : knowledge is worth only if it is shared.
Marco
I started out with VATSIM. Also tried IVAO for a while. However I had some strange experiences using IVAO where I got the impression VATSIM controllers are more professional. So I stuck with VATSIM.
hello sir which Licence of P3d you are using Professional or professional plus . Which one you recommend?
Hi. I am using the Professional version. I don’t see a reason to purchase the Plus version unless you want to program training missions or use AI in the sim. The price tag on that is somewhat high on that.
Maybe have a look if you are eligible for the Academic version.
For descent instructions would ATC usually send it over CPDLC or verbally? And is this just for Airbus or does Boeing have there own version?
I think the B747 has the ATC messages shown on the upper EICAS below the engine indications. If you are connected via CPDLC the controller can give you the descent clearance either via voice or CPDLC. If it is done by CPDLC you send wilco and make sure the controller received the downlink and then you can descend without using voice.
Blackbox711 👍👍
Is it possible to request a AFK/toilet break from ATC? That's the only thing I hate to transmit via voice... :)
You can simply request a 5 minute AFK. Just let the controller know.
I just edited the acars file and entered my logon code, how do I know if everything is set properly? thank you
Go into a FSLabs A321 aircraft, make sure it is electrically powered. Then go onto the Hoppie website and send yourself an ACARS message. www.hoppie.nl/acars/system/send.html
does this request via atc comm menu go to the VATSIM control?or at least do u have the option?
If the VATSIM controller is using the CPDLC function, then yes.
@@Blackbox711 please tell me how does that work. i mean how he uses it the controller
I still have absolutely no idea how to connect. What do I have to use Hoppie for? Nothing ever shows up on the DCDU. I can't connect to anybody.
That is why you need a Hoppie logon code. The communication runs through the Hoppie server network.
If u select climb in the CPDLC after getting ATC clearance does the plane climb on its own(like here it is 35000)?
Hi. No, you always need to get the aircraft into a climb or descent by engaging a new mode on the FCU.
Can you use the ATC COMM on VATSIM?
@blackbox711 out of topic question plz which aircraft due you recommend for xplane11 ff320 or toliss 321 or 319 thanks in advance
While none of them have the level as the FSLabs, in terms of modelling and flight feel the FF320 is a good choice. Regarding updates and new features for the future the Toliss would be better. So a tough choice as you can see.
Blackbox711 thanks alot for your reply yea its a tough one if you would personally go for oneof them which one would you prsonally choose ff or toliss
That's a very unfortunate ATC unit name in the top left, in the latter stages of the video....
When you LOGON to an ATC, do we have to enter any datalink frequency?
No. Just the 4 letter area loggon code. Of course you need to also contact the responsible controller via voice.
Blackbox711 Thanks for your response. Then I have another question: In the Boeing 777, we are able to tune VHF frequencies in a page called ACARS in the manager menu. When do we use those frequencies? For ACARS operation? There is something I don't understand there.
No, normally the ACARS works independently from the tunes VHF frequencies. Although in reality it does transmit on VHF. I have no idea how that works in the 777.
Blackbox711 I will ask that to a 777 pilot. Thank you very much.
Wie kalkulierst du die takeoff Daten für den a321? Also flex temperature Oder v speeds?
can i ask what application is that atc radar map?
I think it is SkyTrak
Doesn't the CPDLC work on VATSIM only?
I am not using IVAO, so I can’t say.
Hi mate how do you update navigraph in ff 767 please?
Easiest through the Navigraph FMS Data manager tool
Ist FSLabs 320x for xplane11 ? And how to buy it ?
No, the FSLabs is only for Prepar3d
I have Hoopie logon code, what's next? I must change something in settings FSlabs? Or file?
Either in the installation process or manually in the Documents/Prepar3D v4 add-ons/FSLabs and edit the ACARS file and enter your Hoppie code there.
And you are welcome.
What sector map are you using ?
You mean scenery? Orbx Europe
Blackbox711 No the map at 7:34 ?
Can this work with on offline flying as well?
Not unless you know someone who can take the ATC part on the Hoppie Network.
Is it for A320/319 also available?
No. At the moment it is only A321
Hello, I have a problem with the new CPDLC system, every time when I try to connect, it say fail, what is happening?
I am sure that the ATC have this system, because we can use this system in the hoppie app, when I use it in FSLABS A321 it become failure.
Do I need to enter my LOGON code to the FSLabs airbus, where should I enter it?
yes with P3D you need to go to your Addon files and in FSL there is an ACARS.ini file
Does this work in the new 320/19 new version too?
Not at the moment. Please ask the developers in the official FSLabs Forum about this.
The 320/319 still has ACARS and the ability to do PDC and talk via TELEX, that was there before the 321 release.
Do you know how to use that with Ivao?
Hi Florian. As far as I know, you would also use HOPPIE. However, IVAO can't use the same ATC logon codes as VATSIM. So you need to inquire with the IVAO controllers about the logon code.
does it work with ivao also
It should work with IVAO as well. I am not using IVAO though.
where can i get free latest afcad for airports for p3d v5? KIndly advise
Sup man. Where's the news videos? We're waiting for new content. Regards
I guess you can imagine how much work goes into making these videos? At the moment family matters have priority and are keeping me from making new content.
@@Blackbox711 for sure. Take care man. I hope to "see" you soon!
How to logon to atc? bcs I've tried notify the atc it when failed
You need to check if the controller actually offers CPDLC. Simply ask him and if he does you will get the logon code. For example EDMS
@@Blackbox711 yeah I tried today with EDGG but still failed, and I dont understand about the code. and how I enter the code to mcdu?
Is that require 3rd party software to do so?
Did you get a hoppie code? www.hoppie.nl/acars/system/register.html
@@Blackbox711 that's mean I must install hoppie acars?
Hey man, where have you been? Are you planning any new video? It's been 7 months!!
I know. Had lots of private stuff to take care off. But new videos are coming.
@@Blackbox711 ok man no problem, take care. Just wanted to know that the channel is still active.
Not a bad video, please stop saying ATC Controller (the C in ATC stands for Controller)
I know, however that is a bad habit of mine which is hard to get rid off.
Actually ATC is air traffic control - ATCO is the air traffic controller. So I guess it‘s fine ;) Happy new year everyone!
Why is his voice so smexy lol
Paging Blackbox711
Do i need an account for Hoppie?
If you want to use CPDLC integrated in the FSLabs the way that I showed in the video, then Yes
Ok. Is it only Hoppie or do i need a Vatsim ccount as well? Thanks for your answers. And i need the Hoppie software to run in the background i believe. Right?
The nice thing about the FSLabs A321 CPDLC system is the fact that you don’t need to have any Hoppie addon running in the background. So only your Hoppie ID is needed. And of course, if you want to use CPDLC with ATC, then either a VATSIM or IVAO connection is required. Theoretically you don’t need to be logged on to any ATC and could be using CPDLC if you have a friend that can simulate a CPDLC station.
thank you very much for your answer.
Hobbie servers are overloaded
I'm an Aviation Lover and I would really appreciate it if you could give me an honest opinion on my first youtube video.
