Steve Butler Wins the 1988 "Thursday Night Thunder" USAC Sprint Race Finale at IRP

Steve Butler shakes off his pavement rookie-year jinx by leading the Tony Holman Classic from flag to flag. Butler becomes the first 2-time winner of the 17 year-old Holman Classic, after winning the previous (1987) event held at its traditional dirt track location (Terre Haute, IN). Butler struggles with a misfiring engine on the last lap and hangs on for a narrow victory over Mark Alderson.
