- Redding, California is best known for its beautiful natural surroundings. Located in the northern part of the state, Redding is nestled in the midst of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest and is surrounded by stunning mountain ranges and forests. The city is also home to the largest man-made reservoir in California, Lake Shasta, which is a popular spot for boating, fishing, and other outdoor activities. Redding is also home to the Sundial Bridge, a unique pedestrian bridge that spans the Sacramento River and is a popular spot for tourists and locals alike. In addition to its natural beauty, Redding is also home to a number of cultural attractions, including the Turtle Bay Exploration Park and the Redding Museum of Art and History.
REDDING CALIFORNIA - Travel Northern California - Downtown Redding
For the town that carries the designation of, "the sunniest city in California", you picked one hell of a day.
nice downtown
LOL.... panicrev555
Second sunniest in the country.
During the winter months, we get a lot of rain, much like what you see up in the Pacwest. We're at the southern end of the Cascades, and the northern end of the Central Valley, so the weather's a bit of both, especially if you go into the mountains. I'm kinda thinking this was shot somewhere during January/February by the look of it. Not the time I would have taken the video - I would have waiter for Spring (April/May) or Fall (October/November), as those are our best seasons. But yeah, our winters are gloomy like what you see in Seattle, and our summers are almost as hot as what you see down in Phoenix.
@@rahshubeltan45hi. Are the temperatures consistent throughout the week. Meaning the temperatures don’t drop 10 - 20 deg Fahrenheit, everyday ?
Northern CA and Southern CA are simply two worlds apart.
So which one is better?
Why?
Lived in Redding for 15 years. Moved to Hawaii right before the sun dial bridge was built.
Beautiful place. Good ppl. Planning on moving back one day.
If you go back to where you turned north from Cypress the restaurant called Lulu's is where Merle Haggard went all the time...I lived in Redding for a few years left back in 1981.
Owner of Lu'Lu's is a friend since 1980. Great place to eat and see friends. Ran around with Noel Haggard back in the day. Spent some time at merle's place as well.
@@PJHEATERMAN That's awesome I dated a girl that said her mother went out with one of the Haggard boys....Seems to me he drove a red Cadillac Eldorado if I remember correctly but that was way back in 1980 so memories are a little fuzzy now.
Your right but merle haggard sucks
@@Christopher-wb4hr Wow what a nice guy.
Very much enjoyed this video. I have loved Redding since I discovered in when I was 12 years old. I used to go to the grocery store with my mom and there was a "free" real estate magazine there called "Redding Homes" and I used to collect them and look at the pictures and houses. When I was 18 I started travelling to Redding and exploring the area. I would usually visit 3 or 4 times a year. Much like this drive, I did these same roads with the exception of the newly opened Market Street. I always said to myself that Redding has something special and had so much potential. I am now 43 and much of what I envisioned for the city when I was 18 has come to life. I am actually moving to Redding this year just after my 44th birthday. I saved this video so I can watch it a few dozen times between now and then. Thanks for making it and I am sorry to the viewer who used to live there and did not like it. Maybe he didn't know what he actually had. Redding is a gem!
Thanks so much. As a semi retired person I see this is a great place for me to move and enjoy the community. Blessings .
Redding is one of the most beautiful city to live. It has lakes, mountains, waterfalls and lot of sun.
And lots of drugs and crime
And a casino close by😅
Can't visit Redding without seeing the Sundial Bridge.
I sure will stop by next time. Thank you, buddy👍
Wow! Old stomping grounds, definitely see some changes
Thank you for watching, Ashley.
This is my home. I no longer live there, was feeling home sick, thanks.
Same, and I second this.
It's the getto
Thanks for the video. As always a good job. Moved away in t968. No regrets.
Thank you, Robert. Greatly appreciate your feedback my friend. Come visit California one day.
bums to the left of me-tramps to the right of me,stuck in redding again!!
I live in redding and I gotta say it looks good but wouldn't recommend visiting due to the homeless population and the police you can say "come on vacation ,leave with probation "
LOL😅👍
this guy obviously doesnt get out much. We have biking trails, ski resorts, fishing, we have good local bars, people are friendly. @@MR.OWENCALIFORNIA
That was a wonderful drive around Redding! I grew up there, but moved to Sacramento when I got married. I've been gone 30 years and I was amazed to see the downtown mall GONE! What I miss the most about Redding is the versatility the area has to offer. Sacramento River, Whiskeytown Lake, Shasta Lake, Mt. Shasta, Mt. Lassen, and the list goes on and on. I used to think living in a bigger city would make my entertainment options increase, but I was wrong. I miss Redding. Thanks for the drive, Mr. Owen!
Thanks, Lora for watching n commenting on my post. Redding is one of my 10 favorite places to move to. But for now you n I are neighbors😅. I live in South Sac.
I’m glad you liked it. I don’t share your impression of the town. I graduated from Enterprise High and Shasta College. Then I was stationed in Riyadh KSA for the Gulf War. The similarities between that city and Redding were remarkable. Both towns were highly intolerant of any person who did not belong to the dominant religion. Ok the Persian Gulf it was Islam. In Redding it was whatever the church is on Hilltop. Unless it’s changed drastically in the last few years, it’s the famous “nowheresville” you’ve heard about. If you like the place you’ll be happy to know that you will NEVER see me there.
They have Redding looking Midwestern Chicago style
Except Redding isn't flat
I spent 3 weeks there in Redding beautiful but so much rain 3:14
WOW this video is bringing back a lot of memories and mixed emotions. I no longe. r live in redding (dirty 530), but grew up there from 97-2014. All my trauma and bad events come from there, and yet there was a lot of good too. Redding was an interesting place whether you loved or hated it (sometimes simultaneously) My best friend still lives there and I'm tempted to move back as she has a room for rent. But every time I visit something bad happens or I just feel awful. It's quite a complex feeling. I miss the lakes though.
what happened?
MUCHA AREA COMERCIAL BONITAS, CIUDAD LIMPIA Y DIVINA PARA CAMINAR SI HAY BUEN TIEMPO
Hi Reyna. Thanks for watching.
Lived in Redding (Anderson) my entire life until 2 years ago. It is heavily overrun by homeless, and has a huge drug problem for a city of its size. There are not great jobs (if you work in healthcare you are in good shape!) and the cost of housing is insane for where you are living. It is great if you love the outdoors, but 4-5 months out of the year it is HOT. I would go to work at 4am and sometimes it could still be 80F. Depending how you lean politically would have a heavy influence on moving there as well. I would suggest you do your research. It will always be home and where I grew up, but I would never move back in its current state.
If retired. Anybody know if Redding, California is a good place to live ? Are home prices overpriced ? Thanks.

MUY HERMOSO ESTA LOCALIDAD MUCHAS CASAS

We don't like illegal immigrants here.
@@CANNABISfreedomNOtaxes we love our immigrant friends here in redding, illegal or not.
@@aehnanimouse6943 no. We really don't. And the rainbow boys like yourself aren't safe here, either.
What about Crescent City Ca?
Mt. Shasta
I’m looking to move somewhere that has low low crime, Im a retired veteran with an income over 100,000, is this place affordable, safe for walking and exercising early in the morning and late at night? Is this place safe?
Redding has a lot of crime
@@BlueEyedAmerican Seriously? I’m trying to get away from ghetto azz Lancaster Ca, and I’m near the rural part and we’ve had 3 murders in less than a year where I live! I can’t live like this anymore; I need a safe community to retire
@@BlueEyedAmerican thank you
I feel ya, I'm trying to leave California because of the high cost of living. I myself am looking at Montana or North Dakota
@@BlueEyedAmerican just keep praying and God will guide you to a perfect place; thank you 🙏
waveform update
I don’t see one restaurant! I’m a foodie! Where’s the food!?
As the video states this is only the downtown portion of Redding. The bigger restaurants are in a different section. There's a few in this area that could be easily missed as they aren't that big.
8:05 Final Draft across the street is good spot for some grub. Very well known here. As well as Jacks on California street to the left.
2:11 if you take a right here on Athens, you'll end up at a wonderful breakfast restaurant called Country Waffles, I highly recommend it.
@@aehnanimouse6943 I don't even know how that place stays open... If you're on Athens, the best place to eat is definitely the San Francisco Deli.
Redding has a lot of great restaurants. Many of the locally owned places are downtown. Market Street Blade and Barrel, Final Draft Brewing, Kobe Steakhouse, Vintage Public House, Maxwells, 1724 Downtown Grill, Carnegies, Trendys, Post Office Grill, Deja Vu, Karlines, Fusion Lounge, Jack's Steakhouse, Cinders Wood Fired Pizza, and dozens of others.
Outside of downtown, we have a great place called View 202, Moonstone Bistro, Whiskeytown BBQ, Branch House Restaurant, Mosaic, From the Hearth, La Cabana, and many, many other little restaurants scatter around different neighborhoods in town.
And then we have the Hilltop/Dana Drive restaurants scattered around the Mount Shasta Mall. They're mostly corporate places like Applebee's, Olive Garden, Logans Steakhouse, Outback, Red Lobster, etc.
I consider this place as a crater once you go to live there you can’t leave
In a good or bad way?
I lived there from 2007-2011. I used to refer to that area as a smoldering trash pit. Lol
@@anthony4562 bad
@@jimmydean1689 thank you. I was looking at properties outside there. Redding was the closest town to the place I was looking at
Omg. Why Redding. I live here and have been for iver 30 years. In the past 29 years the town has been taken over by homeless and druggies
😢
Homeless are everywhere these days. Thanks for your comment.
Redding sucks, glad i got out of there.
I left after finishing high school. Never been back
Why?
No jobs, high crime rate, insane amount of drugs and homelessness, the summers are dangerously hot.
Dont go to Redding
🎄🌲 Sasquatch. Country 🎄🌲
What do I like about Redding? Well almost nothing. The population of homeless people here is far to high in relation to the population a housed people living here. Tweekers, sketchy low life's, angry drivers, poorly run government, and far to many Trump followers. Yes this is definitely a conservative town. The fact that the rent doubled or more at the end of this past year and that the cost of living is far higher than it should be for a town of this size. To many people moving here from large cities with big city attitudes etc etc. No I do not like Redding but the area's around Redding are great. Beautiful mountains and rivers and lakes make an outdoor recreation dream. So I guess the bottom line is, if you're willing to take the bad with the good, than its not bad .... I guess. We moved here over twenty years ago and are making plans to move. Where are we moving, well someplace with less people and better drivers and better attitudes. In the past twenty years or so we've watched the people and other things I just mentioned slide down hill and that's sad because Redding could be a great place to live, seriously, there's lots of room for improvement. Good video though.
Thanks for commenting on my post. Good luck to you n fam wherever you move to.
Sad it is . But I'm afraid the madness is everywhere by the general anxiety that smart phones are causing in most peoples lives. No patience. No cooperation. No tolerance no acceptance. Fear of differences. Fear to be unnoticed. Fear to be less than. Fear to not MATTER. When we will realize that we are here to be part of. Not to be separate by thoughts and believes.
Worse than Oakland?
I think everywhere in California is experiencing an issue with homelessness.
