I have a 2002 z28 Camaro basically like new but I have an issue, the car goes in reverse when I put it in park and when I park it goes in reverse but slower I thought I had fixed it but lining up the linkage with the shift on top sense it’s an automatic it was very easy and it was getting park but it again went back to being bad, instead of park it’s reverse and when I go to reverse now it drives forward
How common of a problem is this? I’ve adjusted the shifter cable so many times with no luck. Won’t go into park. Only goes as far as reverse. I just had pan down for filter change. Now it won’t go into park unless I manually move it there.
So nothing in D? But you can move the shifter 1,2,3 and it rolls? Or you can move the lever but get no movement? That sounds like a torque converter issue.
Had the same problem tightened the nut but it still will not go into park unless I manually shift it like you said any suggestions? Goes into every gear but park and 2nd is there a way to adjust the shifter lever in the cab because when I try to put it into park it will only be able to go up to reverse like when you try to shift it into park it feels like it’s shifted into park because the lever is all the way up but it goes into reverse
Did you drop the pan and line up the internal part when you tightened the nut? It sounds like your shift lever is crooked on the inside like mine was. There’s a little white clip on the shift cable you can loosen to tension the cable, but that’s almost never the problem. Is yours rebuilt or how many miles on it?
@@Christackleberry I rebuilt it myself it drives and runs just can’t put it in park the part you showed was loose so I tightened it but cannot shift it into park unless I physically shift it myself it only has 30 miles on it
Ok. Off the top of my head, here’s a list: Did you use the tool to install the neutral safety switch? Is the cable attached to the bracket on the trans correctly? Is the part of the shifter that holds the cable broken on the column? There is an electric switch on the column to check also. That’s all I can think of unless it’s something internal to the transmission.
Wondering if this is the problem with my mom's truck... Takes all gears but park. Can't remove key from ignition so just unhooked the battery put the parking break on in neutral added a block under the wheels
Could be. With mine, I had just rebuild the transmission when I had this problem. It could be the shift linkage needs adjustment, broken part in the column near the shifter, or a worn out end link on the shift cable. Certain problems are more common to certain years.
There is also la linkage under the dash the holds the shifter from going into park if your brake pedal isn’t depressed that can pop off and get jammed under dash in a way that keeps the shifter from going into park
Appreciate the quick, short , simple to understand what to do video
Thanks for taking time to video THIS 💪💪💪💪

Ahhh man..I might have to drop my pan..02 gmc 4x4..will not go into park unless I climb under and put it in park.
Man! Thanks for posting. What year/model is this car?
2000 Silverado
AWEsome!
Have the same issues pulled pan to check bolt. But bolt not the problem idk what’s next?
Have you already checked the linkage cable?
Has the trans been freshly rebuilt?
@@Christackleberry just figured out problem it’s the shifter itself

Sounds like the exact same as what led me to this.
Mine was caused by tightening the shift linkage with a power tool instead of by hand.
@@Christackleberry thank you, I’ll drop the pan tomorrow and check that.
@barry was it the problem?
@@angelc8824 yep! Put a new cable in, very little adjustment and working perfectly!
Just swapped my trans but it only goes in reverse and neutral. Can manually change it to any gear though reckon it could be this?

It ended up being the cable

I'm having the same problem right now with the no 2nd gear and park being another reverse. Did you ever find a solution?

If I sent you a video, could you tell me what you see
I have a 95 GMC Sierra and it won't go into park. Unless I get under there and push the lever another half step to put it into park
Sure, send it and I’ll take a look.
Have you done anything to it recently?
