Clarification: when I say Islam & LGBTQ is not mutually exclusive I meant that it's important to acknowledge our brothers and sisters who may have same sex attraction and it is our responsibility to help them instead of shunning them away from the community 😊

When you said a SoP could be a personal thing, I realized it was right. For some perspectives, your SoP would only represents your mind. However, if we turn around, your statement could represent many of us, youth Muslims in the world. Your words describe, explain, and show the unsaid feels about sexual education crisis among us. You may not be the first, but surely lead the way to many young people. Keep it up, Kak Zhafira!

When she said she unlearned her conservative side to sexuality and reproductive rights, she was referring to how our communities frown upon talking about sexuality, feelings and relationships, and so on. The whole point of her essay talked about how people within our Ummah are unaware of the topic of sexuality- something that is encouraged to be discussed because if its a topic in the Qur'an, we need to learn and speak about it, just like every other worldview discussion. Since she recognized there is a stigma around sexuality in our communities, she has created social media outlets for many to reach and inform about sexuality since a million of us use it everyday. An outlet dedciated to sex-education helps us learn our sexuality through the Islamic perspective and makes it a more comfortable place to talk and learn about it without being disowned, judged or criticised by our elders and others who deeply frown upon the discussion. I don't how people got out of this that she supports LGBTQ. She just expanded her research and knowledge on the issue through the Islamic perspective, which again, is completely fine and if anything logical! If this means to spread this knowledge to others in our community to protect us from falling into sin, than so be it. Personally, this was an extremely well written, purposeful and insightful essay. 9:39
