    I'm not sure what it is, but a flatbed on a 6.5’ bed always makes it look Shorter than it really is.

    I guess its cool and all but I wouldn't want it if it were free unless the bed I had were so rusted out that it couldn't be used anymore. My previous Silverado's bed was almost in that condition though. If it had some storage underneath like when you put a bed cover on a regular truck bed, then I see how it can be quite usefull. Now you can only haul large bulky items that must be tied down or they will fall off. I like having sides and a tailgate but thats just me. I can see the commercial application if the truck were only going to be used for that(or only for towing, never hauling) but for everyday use a normal bed would seem to be more versatile. It does make it easier to hitch up a 5th wheel trailer I'm sure.

    @borrisfatboy878 Před 4 lety

    Well, to me that ball is somewhat high! That means the front of the trailer is higher than the back, I would have left the original steel assembly mounted to the frame. Aluminium sure looks real purty but for strength and safety you can't beat steel. Why do you think the big rigs use steel and mount the fifth wheel to the frame? Been like that forever!
    They don't build the Abrams main battle tank from aluminium!

    • @brianb-p6586
      @brianb-p6586 Před 2 lety

      Gooseneck trailers normally have substantial height adjustment for the coupler, to accommodate the wide range of ball heights. In this case the ball is recessed in a well below the deck level, so it isn't unreasonably high compared to being above the floor of the stock box.
      Steel is used rather than aluminum mostly for lower cost, rather than higher strength.
      Tank construction is much more about resistance to damage from munitions, rather than optimal strength to weight relationship.

    Unfortunately the cm beds are a knock off of a J&I bed. Cm copied the J&I several years ago & have really pushed mass marketing & mass production. J&I produces fewer beds, but build quality is superior.
