I do not know much about cars. But after watching your awesome detailed video. I fill confident that I can replace my brakes on my own. Thank you Very much for an amazing video!!!! Great step by step guide.
Hi Peter, very good video, can i make some observation, to avoid that news pads make sounds after a while of miles, you can grind a 60 or 45° about both extremety of each pad. And not put too much copper grease, because you can finsh without break power!! and ruin your disks! It can be really dangerous!! so it can be important to notice that!! You make a great job, but i think that i was important to notice that. Best regards An Mechanic fan from Chile Fabrizio
38:51min of joy, what a lovely approach, ok some technical issues but you had a good logical approach to what can be a difficult job for those not used to doing this Brake Pad Change. My Top TIp would be at 29:31 to use a strong cable tie to draw back the Piston, open up the Cylinder lid and wrap a good cloth around the cylinder to catch the Back flush of Brake liquid and DO NOT REMOVE THE CABLE TIE until you have everything in place, but DO REMOVE before tightening your fixing bolts and use a little less lube, overlubing can be worse than no lube, keep a spare pair of gloves for use and never use your gloves to spread lube, it can contaminate due to the dirt on your gloves, maybe ideal to use a lollipop stick. Well done you. Please post more of these fantastic videos. Mr Spence Eng
@31:35 i wouldnt use pliers against the piston, put the old pad inbetween to protect the piston. Great video, if a little lube overload, Kia Cee'd's seem to go through discs and pads like mad.
Thanks for showing me the Hyundai brakes one thing if you get a large G clamp for woodworking you can use it to screw the brake pistons back into the caliper body without damage. I use this for a Toyota Camry it works well.
Hi, I just wanted to say thank you for posting this video. This will help me save a little. Plus I love to tinker with things and it's always nice to have a better idea of what Will need to be done before hand.
why risk breaking your rotor, use a c-clamp and the old break pad to push the piston back into the calliper. I didn't use half of the lubricants on my break replacement. and use an old coat hanger to suspend the calliper on the shock spring while working.
I have bust a couple of C clamps on tough or seized calipers. A small vice was actually better to use, and if it gets tough to turn by hand you can use pliers or a set of vice grips to help turn the handle of the vice to push the piston back in.
Don't forget to remove a small amount of brake fluid. Because when you push the caliper back into it's housing it will raise the level of the brake fluid in the reservoir.
I havent done may brake jobs. But I have seen people using a C Clamp to move the caliber piston back into posItion. Thanks for the video Ill be doing my Optima brakes shortly
A little bit of knowledge can be dangerous. You have good knowledge of the theory, but you use it in practice poorly. You have made a mess of all the lubricants and have gotten it on the rotors. A little bit goes a long way. Even if you didn't get any on the rotor, all of the excess is sure to spread around when you are driving. Not a good idea.
Hi Peter what you have to do is unfasten the top slide pin only & then just rock it over, if needed it can then just be slid back with the lower pin intact, dont saw them off like I did thinking the heads had rusted away, it was a costly learning curve.
l think pushing piston back long way and hard will damage brake master on some cars so supposed to open bleed nipple or maybe other screw that connects hose to pump and bleed fluid out while pressing back . on my neibhors car the lower slider pin seems stuck and that has made uneven braking so brake pad fall off half of it and rest very thin and damage disc that seems much thinner and grooved one side inner side, l have seen videos about releasing stuck pin most use heat on it and wise grip but it explodes hot grease when comes out.
Awesome tutorial from Geoff and Cassie in Australia. Exactly how I would have done it, My favorite tool is also the crowbar ;) Good Work Mate and Keep it up
Changing your own brakes will save you money, And once you change them once, you will have learned lots. I am going to teach my daughter how to do this, so she can do her own brakes. also. Girls are fully possible to do this job, but the dust, is really bad for you, like Peter Finn indicated, do Not inhale, and do Not blow the air, Be careful, that stuff is really bad for your lungs.
hi thank you for getting back to me I took them apart again and it was the little clips the breaks fit into were hitting the discs and it was making a load squealing noise and breaks were not stopping right .
I am going to do the rear breaks today I hope I don't have the same problems the vibration and noise of the front pads was scary but if I follow your video it should be OK
Daniel torres .. identical procedure for your Optima SXL fronts. beware when you replace your rear pads, because the SXL has a electronic parking brake and you wont be able to retract the piston back into the calipers unless u remove the electronic box and manipulate it. (look for video made by a you tuber on this subject)
oh my god,why he is working so hard to retract the piston? use a 4 inch C -clamp.screw driver is not meant for that.don't break. another German screw driver!
And tell people that are watching you open bonet, open brake master cylinder remove top place rags underneath master cylinder so when you pull back piston fluid will not damedge paint
Thank you Peter. That was very well explained and I now understand how the pads can be replaced. 👍
Thanks 👍

galvanc137 Thank You for Your feedback.
Great video peter, just went out and bought all the pads ,done mine, had little confidence doing it until I copied off you, saved me money, thanks
Thank You. :-)
Good job. Even though I wont be using all the lubricants I just saved myself $45 Dollars in labor by DIY. Good instruction sir!
Thank You for feedback. :-)
Thanks for the video. Very helpful. Very good camera angle. I could see what was going.on.

Hello, and many thanks for your comment. :-)
yup I always file the entry and the outro of the pad surface with a fine file to help with chipping as the old rotors can cause grooving

If u live around Finland sweden or Norway overlubing is key to rustfree bolts 😁 good video :)
great vid bro, used it to get clued up before doing me old ladies car. g clamp worked for putting back the piston, all sorted. thanks again.

Do You need to take the cap off the brake fluid container ?
I like your English ascent
Keep watching👍

+Randy Ancell Hello, Thanks for comment. :-)
Excellent video keep it up
Good and very detailed
I do advise before adding any lube to clean and prep the area
Thank You Sir
كان بالإمكان عمل هذا المقطع خلال عشرة دقائق، إذ أن الناس يملون من المقاطع الطويلة...
وشكرا على مجهودك
👍
Good advice Randy also never lever on your brake disk you can warp it, use a large G clamp to wind back piston!
Thank You Sir. :-)
never thought i would of learned to do this from Niko Bellic
Thanks
What a great video. You go into great detail. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Very thorough and informative. A slow and steady approach to ensure the viewer doesn't miss anything. Nice Job?
Thanks. :-)
Kia isnt a cheap brand, they went far ahead many others with the Ceed ED since 2006! And now they A LOT better than many other former good car brands.
Thank You 😃
Dnt need to use so much strength to compress the piston. Simply open the brake master cylinder cap and you can use your bare hands to push the piston.
My Hyundai I10 is different, front brake pad Carriers only has one long bolt at the top & the bottom does not have a nut on the bottom slide pin.
Thanks for info. :-)

get yourself a good prybar set! screwdrivers break under side stress. I like the mayhew/craftsman professional set
slovenski123 Thank you for comment.
Perfect. .but must be open the contain of oil break
Do u not have a piston compressor? It’s so much easier
Thanks. Good point ! :-)
Awesome tutorial from Geoff and Cassie in Australia. Exactly how I would have done it, My favorite tool is also the crowbar ;)
Good Work Mate and Keep it up
Question why take the caliper off why not just remove 1 pin and loosen other and pivot the caliper out of the way it would save alot of time
Noted 👍
Thank you very much for taking the time to make the nice video!
Thanks !

+Scott Castille use a steel brush and a shop vac it does a good and safe job
Hello, what brand were the original plates?
Thanks for info. 👍😀
hi there I have just done everything in the video but my breaks don't feel very good have you any idea's what it could be .
Hi, please tell more. How brakes feels bad: sound, not working, vibration... ?
hi thank you for getting back to me I took them apart again and it was the little clips the breaks fit into were hitting the discs and it was making a load squealing noise and breaks were not stopping right .
I am going to do the rear breaks today I hope I don't have the same problems the vibration and noise of the front pads was scary but if I follow your video it should be OK
You would have to pump the brake pedal afterwards
Why don't you use a G-clamp to push in the caliper?
Good comment. 😀👍
Will this be the same for a 2013 Kia Optima sxl?
Maybe. Please try.
Daniel torres .. identical procedure for your Optima SXL fronts. beware when you replace your rear pads, because the SXL has a electronic parking brake and you wont be able to retract the piston back into the calipers unless u remove the electronic box and manipulate it. Hi Peter what do you think of reliability of Koreans car? Better than Toyota? Thanks for your answer
Hi, Koreans are like Toyota cars copy cars. Quality like Suzuki and Mitsubishi. Toyota is still better and Best !
@@PeterFinnTheCarDoctor thanks
I'm too lazy to do it myself these days
Thanks for info 👍
OOOO,,, the brakes are on the hoomsie floomsie!!!
"My favorite tool - a crowbar" - Half-Life fan detected!
Ok
38 minutes to change brake pads? Think someone knows how to charge by minute.
What happened in the end sorry I fell a kip
Ok
Thank you very much!

No offence, I'm getting brain damage to understand what you're trying to say. Even the subtitles doesn't help.
I found myself shouting at the video.....Get a move on with it.

You don't stick srewdriver between pads and disc and you don't clean discs dirty gloves dirty paper find somthing else go fishing
