i thought Karli had terrible motivations. She wants to take the homes that she stole from dead people, and is getting upset about things that aren't hers. She wants to make things back to the way they were, so basically she just wants to recreate the original snap. It was a terribly written villain who did stuff like blowing up buildings full of innocent people, which is meant to be the villainous thing so people don't see her as reasonable, except she was never reasonable, so ultimately it just ends up as bad writing

That meant putting aside whatever problems based on religion, nationality, skin color, etc., just to band together to survive. Also, those people were gone for five years with no evidence that they were coming back, and then suddenly they reappeared. Suddenly, the old problems were back again, compounded by the fact that the people who did survive the snap were now homeless and were expected to immediately return to a life that was ripped away from them five years ago and have had to learn to move on and adapt. Going to guess there's a few folks who's lives were terrible but then had a newfound freedom after the snap.

Personally I loved the Abomination. We get to see Blonksy's slow transformation from a relatively stable soldier to a fight-hungry maniac, and the brilliant part is that it's not a transformation, it's bringing out the inner ugliness of him. He's a great foil to the Hulk.

  • @noahstickley9774
    @noahstickley9774 Před 2 lety +19

"10. Taskmaster": The way he was handled really kind of triggered my inner fanboy. He's a chatty villain like you said and is really intimidating especially in the 2018 Spider-Man game when he appeared as a side boss. The Black Widow film on the other hand.......it just felt like the writers didn't even KNOW the history of this character or how to handle him which makes the twist all the more disappointing than shocking, that's not a good look.
"#9. Karli Morgenthau": ......Yeah, I would say that its probably the point of her being unlikable but I'd be exaggerating....but what did we expect????
"#8: The Abomination": It didn't trigger me as much as Taskmaster did......but I definitely saw why people really had issues with him. But don't worry, he will appear in She-Hulk: Attorney At Law so who knows if he'll pull a redemption card.
"#7: The Hand": Can't comment on that cause I haven't gotten to Daredevil Season 2 or The Defenders yet (I will eventually don't worry).
"#6: Whiplash": Not even Mickey Rourke could make the film's villain a bit more....well let's say a bit more likable.
"#5: Ronan The Accuser": What????? How???? Lee Pace was kind of A highlight (not THE highlight), but calling him boring is a bit of an over-exaggeration don't ya think????
"#4: Yellowjacket" Again, how????? He's like a reverse Lex Luthor (or just Marvel's answer to him), and even if the film kept focusing on Scott, Hank, and Hope, you kind of feel scared and concerned for how far he'll go to get what he wants any time he comes on screen. He shouldn't be on here.
"#3: Yon-Rogg": Say what you want about Captain Marvel but Jude Law really isn't that bad at playing a villain. Just saying.
"#2: Aldrich Killain": I mean, you could just assume Trevor Slattery as The Mandarin is Marvel's acknowledgement of his racist origins (hence why the Shang-Chi film decides to tell a different origin story that ISN'T racist towards Asians), but you're not wrong on the execution part, man that really sucked.
"#1: Malekith:" Had a feeling he'd be on here. I mean, didn't Christopher Eccleston say Marvel cut a lot of stuff that REALLY sounded important???? It's not surprising cause this really WASTED him. Plus, the way he's characterized really didn't help either and kind of is one of the reasons why The Dark World still gets hate and is sometimes still said to be one of the WORST MCU films.

They did Taskmaster super dirty. Although I've only seen one other Taskmaster being the animated series The Ultimate Spiderman's Taskmaster. It had to be one of my favourite Marvel villains. TAS Taskmaster was an actual villain who had an actual motive of being bad and not a good person being forced to be bad (Black Widow version). TAS Taskmaster actually has powers that enable him to mimic his opponent's skills, along with photographic memory, whereas the Black widow version was just someone using a suit that does the mimicking and moving your body for you. The Black Widow Taskmaster suit I didn't really like, it was bulky, the hood wasn't even a hood, the colour scheme could have been done with more white and black and it just didn't look menacing. TAS Taskmaster his identity was unknown and when he's not wearing the suit he will disguise as someone else and actually use those face masks things they used in Black Widow, but that Taskmaster just always remains in their suit and they have no personality, no talking just forced to eliminate their targets whereas TAS the taskmaster was quite funny ish and good evil lines. TAS Taskmaster felt more like a big recurring villain such as the green goblin / Dr. Octavius / Kingpin which he was and his evil goals felt really the end of the world. Whereas this Taskmaster was probably the only time we see them and it wasn't even an evil person just someone pulling the strings. The only good thing I liked about this Taskmaster was that he already had a shield, bow and arrow, and claws representing the Avengers' abilities he had mimicked and kept onto them and used for future fights. Whereas the TAS Taskmaster can only mimic an ability for a certain amount of time, which is quite balanced and understandable, or else he will be unstoppable.

The MCU has a problem with writing boring villains. Since they're not the central figure of the story, a lot of their motivation gets stripped away in favor of a two-dimensional, simplistic vision of what real evil looks like, in order to fit the movie runtime. But if they don't provide any form of character development to the hero, something that shakes their previous worldview, they don't serve much more purpose than to be a spangley punching bag. Villains are supposed to challenge the protagonist in more ways than just physical combat. They hold up a mirror to them, showing their flaws and issues, and confront them over their frailties and contradictions. Sometimes they are sympathetic, and sometimes they represent something antithetical to the hero's story arc, but the Disney MCU seems to be content to just leave some of them as flat and dull to make room for bigger budget CGI fights.

Also people tend to forget that the MCU is not the same universe presented in the comics and I personally, as a fan of the comics myself, prefer to be surprised sometimes than get the full fan-service-package.

  • @that.canadian.vaper.guyTCVG

Ronan should have been a killer
Instead of having Thanos berate and belittle him, they should have had Nebula trying to secure the mission by herself and failing. Then getting another chance to go after Peter Quill, but Peter Quill gets help to fight her off from rocket and Groot so they can collect the bounty on Peter.
Nebula going back to lick her wounds, she then gets replaced when Thanos calls in Ronan to finish the job, which caused Gamora to go turncoat. Gamora reaches Peter, Rocket and Groot first, trying to warn them that Ronan is after the Power Stone.
Peter tries to pick her up, she rejects him, Rocket tells her to fuck off, couple of I Am Groots here and there. Resulting in all of them arguing and *ALMOST* fighting each other, but Ronan lands before the Guardians fight and Ronan single handedly destroys them.
Like, without breaking a sweat. He doesnt hurt Gamora, since shes Thanos' daughter and favorite. But he knocks her out, then beats Peter, Rocket and Groot by himself.
But before he can kill them and take the Orb, Yonda hits Ronan with a space pod and Ronan fights the rest of the Ravagers while The Guardians are being arrested.
Ronan offs a couple Ravagers, but seeing the Nova Force Police, he is disgusted and decides to regroup since he is one of the most notorious Kree War Mongers after Yondu taunts Ronan of the incoming Nova Force.
Then the movie will pretty much go as it did from here. They only needed to make Ronan seem like a BIGGER threat than he was. He came off like a whiney, callous and useless hired hand rather than the all powerful War Mongerer that hes supposed to be.
Showing him destroy the Guardians single handedly before they became a team would show how much power he has. Having Thanos bring him in personally and all the faith in them is a stark contrast to the way he sees him in the movie. With the Guardians having trouble defeating him until they realize they have to work as a team, and it makes everything more impactful. Gamora leaving and betraying Thanos. Nebulas feelings of being a screw up. Groots sacrifice to save his team mates. And Ronans betrayal of Thanos would also hit harder. It would be a huge WTF moment that shows how powerful the stones are, if they could make Ronan betray Thanos and threaten him personally once he takes the Stone.

Hmm, I have some disagreements with these ...
-The Hand entry should be replaced with Sigourney Weaver's character. SHE was lackluster and pretty lame as a villain. The Hand existed with several other crime entities within the various Marvel/Netflix shows so it makes sense they aren't fully flushed out. There were some pretty tough henchmen beyond just Nobu that DD and friends had to fight.
-I guess you could say Ronan was a lousy, one dimensional villain given how linear he was but let's be real, the real reason behind that was to give the Guardians their shot into the mainstream.
Everyone else deserves to be on here lol ... I particularly dislike Karli Morgenthau. She was such a lame villain.
