[01 September 2023] Perhaps the eeriest - I do not mean the most *irie* but the most *EERIE* ; the most uncanny and *frightening* - track Lee Perry ever created. Not for the lyrics - for the lyrics, of course, are as righteous and God-fearing as roots reggae lyrics ought to be - but for the creepy sound of the riddim; for the whistling-past-the-graveyard-in-the-midnight-hour sound of the ghostly backup singers. If you ask me, Perry's "Rejoice" riddim outdoes The Congos' "Congo Man", Max Romeo's "Chase The Devil" and even(!) The Gatherers' "Words" for sheer eeriness (though the above-mentioned tracks are close competition).
