    This song’s about lucid dreaming, which is supposedly a thing that occurs when, while dreaming, you’re able to realize that you’re dreaming. I’ve never been able to do it, although I have realized that I was dreaming before at least a couple of times. Apparently it’s something that you can train to do.
    The theory goes that, if you’re able to become aware of the fact that you’re dreaming, you’ll be able to control whatever happens in the dream-you’ll be able to do absolutely anything you want to do in the dream world, create whatever sort of dream world you’d like to live in, etc.

    When I was very young, I had the ability to literally leave my body at night. It was just normal, then one night I was so scared that I wouldn't be able to get back. Thats what I think about now, I've lost so many ppl that sometimes it feels like waking up is the nightmare, so I think it is literally remembering we have that power to dream..

    The "Empire" album this comes from is amazing. Very mature musically, & some of the most sumptuous production you'll ever hear. I still play it thru occasionally now. I'm auld AF, so bought it in my teens within a year of release before I went to see them at Donington Monsters of Rock '91. Now *that* was a show!! The Black Crowes opening, Queensrÿche, Mötley Crüe, Metallica, & AC/DC headlining.... was well worth the 250mile drive down from Scotland & £22.50 a ticket for a whole day of great music on a (thankfully) glorious sunny August day. :)

  • @joelberkey-lewis4102
    @joelberkey-lewis4102 Před 3 lety +3

    This was Queensryche when they finally broke and went commercial, which was weird because this would have been the fourth full studio album. The song was written by lead guitarist Chris De Garmo and the arrangement was conducted by the late Michael Kamen, who had done film scores including Highlander, and X-Men and has also worked with Pink Floyd, Metallica, Aerosmith, and Bryan Adams. Queensryche got its start in Washington in 1980, where they cut their first tracks on an self-titled E.P. Called Queensryche. This was followed by their first studio album The Warning which has fan favorites, NM156 which you would like, as well as Roads to Madness and Take hold of the Flame. As they began to expand their repertoire further they released Rage for Order which had fan favorites, Nue Regal, Walk in the Shadows, Gonna get close to you, and Screaming in digital another tune you may like. They would release what is actually considered the band's masterpiece album; a concept Album called Operation Mindcrime, easily one of the best concept albums of all time. Which initially tanked but received a renaissance and new life after Eyes of a Stranger and I don't Believe in Love was released as both singles and videos on MTV. Then Operation Mindcrime exploded with Queensryche gaining popularity which led them to their most commercially successful album Empire, with hits Empire, Jet City Woman, Best I can, and Silent Lucidity. This was Queensryche at their absolute best and Queensryche at their peak. Although they have released six albums since Empire their popularity has waned with several lineup changes, including the band splitting into two separate entities. Queensryche and Operation Mindcrime.

  • @irishinnish1
    @irishinnish1 Před 3 lety +4

    Queensryche is a multi-platinum band who had their most popularity with this particular song, AND the album it's on, 'Empire.' If you want to get a sense of Geoff Tate's vocal ability, a lot of CZcams vocal coaches react to QR's "Take Hold of the Flame" live in Tokyo. Geoff (at the time....definitely not so much later on) had the ability to sing in 4 octaves. 'Flame' live is a perfect example, and I highly recommend reacting to it.
    However, if you're ever interested in getting to know the band better in your personal time, you need to listen to 1988's "Operation: Mindcrime." The album is a rock opera - a complete story from beginning to end. Listen to it with lyrics available so you can follow the story. It's the album that changed my life, my view of the world, and made me a QR diehard.

  • @rbrebrook
    @rbrebrook Před 4 lety +5

    Queensryche's song "Suite Sister Mary" from their concept album Operation:Mindcrime is epic and loaded with transitions, since that's your thing. You should really listen that entire album, though. It's regarded as one of the best concept albums right up there with The Wall. Just ocnsider the it one long song with multiple chapters and transitions. Other good songs from them that you'll probably like - The Lady Wore Black, Roads To Madness, Anybody Listening?, Promised Land, Someone Else . Geoff Tate, the vocalist, has one of the best voices in rock/metal ever. A baritone, classical trained in the belcanto style, with a 4 octave range. Watch Take Hold of the Flame from live in Tokoyo and you'll understand why.
