He is right about it. I felt that as a kid watching matches in 90s. I stopped watching cricket and have never seen a match after 1996 when i saw waseem akram being defeated. If you rewatch the match it still gives the vibe of waseem being the real culprit behind the loss.

Where as Salim Malik had been asking him to keep the team informed well in advance if he is to play the match or not so that they can process the news with a lot of time available and re-strategise for the new match with the stand in skipper . It was a shock for everyone that out of all the big player Aamer Sohail was chosen to be the stand in captain.

I have been very clear and well-researched to mention that Wasim Akram is the single biggest controversial name in Pakistan's Cricket history.Though, I am Wasim's fan too but there is no doubt that he was a bad guy with a lot of bad stories in his career. I still remember his 7th wicket stand with wasim akram innthe 1987 Calcutta oneday match vs India..he pulled victory from.the.jaws of.defeat ...and his 9th wicket.stand of more than 80 runs with one of the Pakistani tail enders ( I guess it.was saqlain mushtaq or akram khan ) in the sahara cup 1996 against India...yet again .. Completely snatched a definite easy win for India... damn ..it pinches / hurts like hell how this guy made us cry with his batting skills and snatching victory from India especially

It was very difficult to get him out. We used to pray at least he should get out. Such a great batsman he was. No comments on the controversy he was involved.

Pakistan won the toss against Australia in 1996 CWC and decided to BAT! A fatal and deliberate mistake by Pakistan. Pakistanis living in UK knew that the ball swings viciously in the first session and the swing disappears by noon time. Therefore, Pakistan lost early wickets in the first session and could not recover from this. By the time Australia batted, there was no help from the pitch for our pace attack and our opponents reached their target easily.

Wasim and Waqar were great performers on the field but they also had massive egos and were the main reasons for grouping in the pak team during the 90s. Wasim was match fixer. Even now you can see their egos is so big.

Cannot still understand how he got out in some of 1992 world cup matches playing bad shots although he was highly talented and experianced cricketer.
He was out of form in 1992 wold cup. But he was a good part time bowler, wicket keeper and also a very good fielder, that's why he was plying continously in the team.

No matter how good players did Pakistan team have in the quarter final match against India in March, 1996, India would defeat them even if Wasim Akram had played in that match. The bowler Ata-ur-Rehman took the vital wicket of Sachin Tendulkar. Both teams were under heavy pressure. The only thing was Wasim Akram's presence would have boosted the moral of the touring side but India had won the toss and decided to bat first.
