In 94-95, Mandela Cup (4 Nation tournament including Pak, SL, NZ & host SA) was held. Pak did very well in league matches & reached to final as top team without Wasim Akram. Akram joined the team before finals, everyone thought now Pak became invincible. But Pak lost 1st 2 finals (best of 3) to SA badly.
No doubt Wasim Akram is one of greatest (Among top 5/6) in crivket history. But there is some serious doubts about his honesty, integrity.

I remember his revelations published in 'The Outlook' in India and thinking it really takes a gutsy person to take on the establishment and top players. My respect to him stays and essentially this is what drew me to 'Caught Behind'. I have been seeing it from first post and value the fine impartial analysis it provides. Following events are important to consider:
1.) Pakistan tamely & suspiciously surrendered the WC99 final without a fight, although the same team beat the Aussies in 1st round. Captain Wasim Akram made no efforts to inspire the team for the final. He seemed more interested in public relations and signing autographs for fans at the boundary in various matches during the field of play.
2.) In the same WC99 pool-match, the strong Pakistan side lost to minnows Bangladesh, giving them a case for test status. The Pak batsmen fell like a pack of cards. Wasim Akram strangely said after the match: "I am glad we lost to our brothers".
3.) The Sultan of Swing sit out the all important WC96 Quarter Final match against India with a feigned injury. Suspected alliance with the bookies? Nobody, including Wasim, never explained his absence, resulting in an outright victory for India.
4.) Coach Javed Miandad openly accused Wasim Akram of throwing a match against England at Sharjah. Wasim never replied to these serious allegations.
5.) Coach Miandad again publicly criticized Wasim of bowling too many deliberate wides & no-balls during an important 1-day match in Australia, letting the Aussies win by a big margin. Miandad specifically mentioned that how come a bowler with experience of 300+ games can deliver so many wides & no-balls in a tight match?
6.) The Justice Qayyum enquiry commission punished Wasim by stripping him of national captaincy and banning him from taking any office of responsibility for 10 years. Justice Qayyum must have found something credible in his findings. Wasim never challenged his decisions in an appeal court.
7.) There may be many other suspicious incidents, including some crucial matches lost in South Africa under his captaincy, but they never came to limelight.
In view of all the above, there should be some accountability of his actions.
No doubt Wasim has brought laurels to the country in the past, but if he is a sincere & true legend, and wants to safeguard his popular image, he should come out openly in his defense & give explanation to all the above, in order to clear his name from the above controversies once and for all.

Night before the match, vice captain Sohail heard about Akram's fitness issues so he consulted with some other players & went to Akram's room & said, " If you cannot play tomorrow, we are thinking of playing under Javed Bhai's captaincy to pay him a tribute." Akram said, " Don't bother. I am playing"
    All know what happened next.
Ameer said in the end with a sad smile "Woh match toh hume jitnahi nehi tha !"
Imran Khan played whole 92 WC with a injured shoulder. Because presence of captain does matter in crucial pressure matches. Wasim abandoned his team giving them no time to be prepared mentally.

There is no need to go in details but when Miandad could have played the whole series with back issues and Imran Khan played the whole World cup92 with injured shoulder, .......No matter what reasons were, Akram completely failed to lead the very strong side which has immense talent. Rhetorically, even if I would be a captain of that specific team, I just had to lead them and stay on the ground with them, rest the team assures. In pressure matches captaincy played a vital role, the example of Dhoni and Sachin are here, Dhoni lead the side whereas, how great Sachin was as a batsman, he failed as a leader.

Wasim was one of founders of spot fixing in Pakistan. I don’t know the exact year and date, but I remember one of my friend living Mozang Adda Lahore, called me and told me that Wasim Akram’s brother was in a billiard club, talking to owner of club. When wasim’s brother left, the owner of the club was betting that Wasim would do no ball in the first over. I was shocked that first ball bowled by Wasim was so wide that no bats could reach it.

Why These Three Legendary Bowlers Couldn't Resist Navjot Sidhu?????!!!!! (93 Runs Out Of 115 Balls)
    Was He A Good Batsman?????!!!!
If These 93 Runs Scored By Sachin Tendulkar Or Mohammad Azharuddin Then I Could Understand That Yes A Great Batsman Defeated Pakistan In 1996 Quarter Final In Bengaluru, India

Agreed....what a lot of 90s. They are still heroes in mind. The most stylish players of all time.....
The only thing which haunted us at that time was lack of discipline....
Too many stars without a centre of gravity and that was the main cause of clashes and scandels.

90s decade Pakistan team was so strong. In fact 90s era was the best cricketing days in the entire cricketing world when you compare jokers play now and t20 has ruined cricket totally

1996 Quater final WC, Javid miandad should have retired and Wasim Akram not playing was a massive disappointment.

    Why was Rashid so quiet....
Really wanted to know the true story.
Also, it seems that Wasim and Rashid didn't get along at some point OF time...
Don't know if today it's different.
But to an Indian like me Wasim Akram is a legend. Sultan of Swing

Even today it's the 90's player's, journalist and cricket analyst that are hogging the limelight...
There's nothing to talk about new era.... unfortunately
A great or a falmboyant character or great leader is what leaves a mark...
Shane Warne, wasim, ganguly, Imran Khan...are few examples.
    Love from india ❤️

What an episode . .. worth watching (Amazing Trio). There could be ups and down in Pakistan Cricket but the LEGENDS of 90's will be remembered till Cricket of Pakistan exists. Kindly have more VLOGS like these plz, especially, when Doctor Saab keep his mouth work less and others like Rashid Latif Sb and other guest can speak more..
