  • I don't know about you but in Canada with all the critters roaming around at night I would much rather sleep in my car than on the ground so why not turn your SUV into a camper with this simple addition. You use the tent for your stuff and sleep in your car. I spent 4 weeks camping in this tent across the Rockies and Drumheller Alberta and have to say I love this tent.
    Yes it is an absolute pig to put up. But once its up its fantastic and whats there not to like
    So here is my video of the Napier SUV tent and the Amazon link is ...

    Screw an eyelet screw into a tennis ball. Attach a line to the ball and the rain fly. Toss the ball over the 7ft tent. Keep the tennis ball screw in case something else comes up where you need to toss a line. You're welcome and thanks for the good review. 👍

    Best review I have seen. When reviewers tell of the problems encountered, then hopefully people that are considering buying the tent will have a backup plan. I did purchase this tent but haven’t received it yet. After watching countless reviews on Suv tents, I realized that all of them had strengths and weaknesses, as with anything else. I just tried to pick the one best for my car camping needs. One thing I will try to look into is seeing if you can purchase a full rain fly.

    Thanks for the excellent review! I've been looking for a tent to use with my minivan. I was concerned with being able to close the hatch when I'm away from it for security. I plan to use it for attending weekend traditional archery/camping events, and I'll have expensive bows to secure. I'll take your advise on a full size rain fly and should be good to go.

    Thanks for the video. We have the 84000 model. Agree with all your points. But beware! We left the boot of our van open ( on the other side of the mosquito screen ) and ended up with an ant infestation in the van itself. Tent was air tight to critters and rain. Took under 30 minutes for the two of us to set up first time. Easy peasy lemon squeezy lol. Cheers.

      In Florida I stayed at a Hotel and Marina. It had rained so much the Arginine ants flooded into the parking lots and then into all the cars. It took me about two weeks to get rid of them. I bought a good spray bottle and put vinegar dawn dishwasher soap and water. It will kill any ant right away. It also would have prevented them from wanting to get in my car if I had known of the problem beforehand. Spray your tires outside and inside [ that is both sides of the tire s] and you will not get as many in your car. I went back a year later and decided that if the ants were back I would park down town where they weren't LOL

      I think so ....its a bit of a fight to put it up but Im still using it and has not let me down yet plus its nice to sleep in the Element Only thing I plan to add to the set up is one of those tailgate tents over the clamshell at the back of the Element so I can sleep with the tail gate open ....So basically the entrance to the car is a tent door...Hope that makes sense

    We have a ton of mosquitoes in Northern Ontario I wonder if they would come in through the car sleeve ?

    • @thetramblingman463
      @thetramblingman463  Před 2 lety +3

      Thanks for the reply Marie. There are mosquito netting on all the tent openings so I am guessing that if you keep them zipped then the chances of the blood suckers getting in are minimal I have not had a problem and have had this in Northern BC another bug fest destination

  • @normwhiff

    Good tent but it would be nice they had the opening on the right side of the tent because all the camp grounds are setup for passenger side opening not drivers side...beware if that's important.

    have watched quite a few reviews of Napier SUV tents and everyone of them have leaked, which is pretty poor design and quality as they are expensive in Australia. You need a large tarp to go over them

      Norm, I've been looking at Napier products for a few years, they are a local company to me in S.Ontario so it's nice to see a real review. My problem is i use a Toyota Tacoma pick up and Napier used to do a pick up truck product, but the tent sleeve that went over the back end could not be made bug proof. I asked them several times if they could come up with a solution and eventually the product disappeared. Looking at this one it would seem that the sleeve would seal pretty good under the open tailgate but in your tear down segment there appears to be a big gap on the left down the side. Any thoughts?

    • @thetramblingman463
      @thetramblingman463  Před 2 lety

      @@peterhyde3282 good question! I am not sure as where I am in BC does not have too many bugs on the skirt there is one hook that attatches to the tail gate and essentially its all elastic so any gaps could be remedied by adding more bungee chords. Other thing I wonder is to spray the outside skirt with OFF (mosie repellant) When its stand alone and vehicle is not connected and the port zipped up its not a problem as its all bug netted ...The only other thing is fit out the back of your Tacoma with a bug bet and zipper around the tailgate and hood so there is another layer of protection to pass through I bought one of those cheap tailgate tents found on Amazon Its crap but I can see a way of fitting it to the the back and the only good part of that tent is it provides a zippered door and mosie net entrance ....Im thinking of doing a video about the fit soon and see how it goes

      @@thetramblingman463 Thanks, I finally decided on the Rightline SUV Tent. Mainly because of the many bad comments about leaks and bad seam sealing on the Napier. Glad to say the Rightline works perfectly with the Tacoma tailgate. Heavy mosquito population where I was last night but not one got in the tent. Massive dew this morning with a huge temperature drop and not one drop of water got through seams or zips. The Rightline was bought online through Lowes, arrived within 3 days of ordering.
