Italian immigrants came to America and had to use what similar ingredients they could find here as in Italy. Also, what afford to buy as most were not rich when they came here. Italian American food is its own cuisine. It can't be called pure "Italian". That said, if you can appreciate that it is a separate thing, it's not bad.
Yeah. Italian-American cuisine can be considered "abbondanza" due to the ingredients, richer sauces, and of course portions. Chicago takes that to heart! ... Literally! Our cholesterol levels are through the roof over here!
It absolutely did but as with all these videos the portion size astonishes me. That plate of food, if I could eat it all in one go, would be my only meal of the day.

LaVilla one of the best family restaurants on the NW side! Love their food especially the chicken vesuvio! Don’t even get me started on the shrimp scampi!! Delicious!
