- Today, I took on the best Stardew Valley Speedrunner in the world, Haboo, who has countless Community Center Speedrun World Records, and tried to see if I could beat him using Iridium Tools. He's one of the greatest Stardew Valley players of all time, so it'll be tough, but can I do it?

Easily by using fish ponds, you can get certain fish and materials for fish pond via traveling merchant. Rest is sleeping and collecting rewards from ponds for a long time

Physics is basically applied maths... you have to be good at maths to be a physicist or engineer (less so for engineering tho) The other sciences not so much. People think you need to be good at maths to do comp sci but idk where that came from, I'm a good programmer but terrible at maths.
Could have been a little more level if they also had to deal with energy expenditure. Just like the watering refills really handicapped Haboo.

You can reach haboos animation cancelling with a script. I found one on a steam guide that lets me hold x to do the entire animation cancelling. It’s not as fast as haboos but I think if the timing changes it can be. I don’t know if this is allowed in speedruns though.
Automatic animation cancelling scripts are not allowed in speedruns, no. You can rebind the relevant keys, but the cancel itself must be timed manually.

@@LinkThinks Wait, keybinding is allowed, right? Like they're not actually clicking r, delete and right shift, and keybinding uses scripting. So it's not allowed to specifically automate animation cancelling
@@lemolea9571 @lemolea9571 Yeah, you are allowed to rebind those keys, but what's important is the input to do the cancel itself has to be manually timed.
I definitely did not word it well, but my reply was more directed at the original commenter who found a script to automate the whole process. That's entirely my bad, and I don't intend to be spreading misinformation so I'll edit that initial comment to properly reflect that.
As per current rules "No macros, scripts, or other tool-assisted methods that automatically time animation canceling (AC), i.e. the timing must be done manually. AC is not allowed in Vanilla."
Thanks for commenting though, that was a blunder on my part. Personally I'd like it if more people gave animation cancelling a shot, so I definitely do not want to scare them away. Obviously it's not for everyone, but I think the unexpectedly high dexterity component it adds to Stardew is a lot of fun, and the technique is pretty easy to actually do at a baseline while having an incredibly high skill ceiling.
@@LinkThinks Ah, I was just wondering because I've also been using an automated script to animation cancel but didn't realise it was considered cheating in speedruns (cuz I kinda wanna do some, not to submit but just to see how I shape up). I'd be willing to try doing with just a macro but if you actually had to do it with no assistance I'd just stick to what I've got now haha, I don't think I could do it.
I don't know if I'd call a hardcoded shortcut an "exploit" lol, great video!

I know the joke is that pros use "noob" tools in the thumbnail. But nah, having been a part of the fanbase for a long time. Any "pro" in stardew ends the first month with like. All of their tools upgraded fully. Like... the upgrades will take 30 days, and they finished the upgrades in 2.

Not to take away from Haboo's talent and achievements but I still think that doing a Glitchless Run but allowing exploits is weird. Sure a glitch and an exploit are not the same but both should be considered the same in speedrunning, like either you do everything legit (as the developer intended) or you don't.
Animation cancelling is a shortcut that ConcernedApe coded on purpose, so it's not really a exploit either. Seanie muddled up his words

@@irmiwolf I can't post the link to the Reddit threat because CZcams just deleted my comment, but a few years ago the speedrunning community did a vote and concluded it's not considered cheating for official runs.
Yeah, it's technically an exploit I guess, but people used it so much in speedrunning that they just allowed it, there are non-animation cancelling speedrun categories too
