A new PT-6 engine can cost in excess of $300,000. I work for a shop where we repair them. Once we had a jack fail and drop one. Largely unscathed spare for what's called the 'chip detector' on the forward underside, it still cost us $150,000 to have it sent to Pratt & Whitney to have it inspected and recertified!
@@EvanLuft Absolutely. We mostly repair the old lady Beech 99's which are an older model. The New PC-12 PP's I know cost quite a bit more. It's crazy the prices in Aviation currently. Some of it makes sense, but holy cow!!!
According to Wikipedia most of the variants of PT6 are between 500 and 1500 horsepower. I imagine that the price they charge is partly a function of how much power the particular variant puts out.
After learning about the stress fractures caused in engine pylon attachments by continental and American from poor forklift procedures during maintenance this makes me very uncomfortable lol
Reminds me of starting a race car. The oil pump, starter, and other accessories all get started manually also. Being a pilot looks fun but it's like swimming in the air and I hate the ocean.
I'm a new pilot just starting my 3rd lesson today. I tried flying a beechcraft king air in Microsoft flight sim but was stumped when I needed to start it. đ. Thanks for the help though.
Just started following you and im loving your vids. Would love to become a pilot but flight school is expensive lol I'll just keep rocking flight sim haha
Good to know, when the cops are hot on your tail and you need to get this thing going ASAP! Me, well it took me 60 seconds just to find the battery switch and then had to pause, rewind, and play again. Then I realised it was a completely different Plane.
Haha thatâs how these new jets work. Just a start button and they auto sequence everything. Haha biggest risk is you get a blister on the tip of one finger ;)
Hot start. Chop fuel keep starter rumning for like 20 seconds? Heard those are expensive to fix and need to know incase we get mother of a geomagnetic storm n have to steal one.
reminds me of me starting a pilatus for the first time on flight simulator. i was so confused as to why the engine blew up. turns out your not supposed to leave the fuel on while starting. turbines engines are scary and expensive lol
Good training for the non pilot's out there. The Pt6 /34 thru the 114 are very forgiving and with proper 100hr.s and trend monitoring will be very trustworthy.
If I was flying this plane I would always be fearful of the propeller loosening and impacting my head at a speed of 90 knots killing me of blunt force trauma in seconds.
Me: *spends $100k on flight school for 6 years*
This dude: So this is how you start an engine in 30 seconds
Haha 5 engines later⊠:p :p
I feel sorry you did that. Should've joined the military and do it for free

Yeah but starting engines isn't very complicated. And you will learn alot more in fs
It's so simple. Let's make it complicated by adding just 1 switch for on/off to fly.
Haha yes. Most jets nowadays have just a start stop button no joke! Technology

Omg thatâs insane! Apparently the pt6 on the pc12 is even more expensive!! Iâve heard near 500k

I've seen plenty of these at the airport near my house. Thanks for the useful tip đ

How will you get fuel?

I flew the conquest back in the 90âs. The II as well. What a great airplane!

Glad I watched this I was having a hell of a time get my turbo engines started
Haha :)
Pls make detailed versions for CZcams as well. Thanks đđ»ââïž
I will do!
It amazed me how easy turbines are compared to some of the pistons I've flown when I initially transitioned to turboprops.

The pitch on those props is crazy!!! Theyâre almost flat
Clear prop!
I am regretting not saying that! Haha
It's more fun to get into the tr3b, sit down shut up and just think about what you want it to do! Skunk Works a division of Lockheed Martin!

Switch switch click, clocks spinning, levers forward. Got it.

For small single engine planes: push the primer stick, put in the key, and give it a little slap on the dash

@@EvanLuft yeah and you don't have to joy of watching the temps rising and wonder if they're ever going to come down.
I farm out the start up sequence to Others. When the engines are warm, that's when I sit down and fly.
