This Electric Bike Company Model R review covers the key components and performance features of this e-bike. We analyze the unique aspects that make this bike different as well as the motor’s speed performance, battery life, braking, hill climbing, and overall ride comfort of this cruiser-style electric bike. All of their e-bikes are assembled right here in the USA, so you can be sure you’re getting attention to detail and top-notch craftsmanship.
While this is what OUR Model R looks like, just remember, the fun of buying an e-bike from EBC is how you can customize just about everything the way you want it.
One key aspect of this e-bike that makes it unique is the suspension. Housing the Zoom hydraulic suspension forks, with 80mm of wheel travel, these forks help soften the rough roads you venture onto. Accompanied by the 26” x 3” Rhinoceros tires that help soften the impact of your ride, the overall suspension gives you a noticeably smoother cruise.
This gives you the opportunity to ride the Model R on terrain more rugged than you’d ever ride another cruiser on. Rugged is where this bike get the R in its name. The Model R is highly capable.
Relying on its 12 amp-hour battery, the Model R can reach a range of up to 45 miles, depending on riding conditions. The extent of the Electric Bike Company's customizations reaches to the battery, so you can nearly triple the capacity of our test bike - meaning you'll go well over 100 miles between charges if you want.
Along with everything else they do stateside, the customer service is also located right here in the USA, and they have the patience and understanding to help you get a perfect match with your custom cruiser. And if you should encounter any issues, the service department can even track down and speak with the builder of your custom bike - how many other companies can claim that?
EBC ships fully assembled bikes at no additional cost, within the 48 contiguous US states ($100 for Canada), so you can get your bike delivered right to your door.

Wow it looks amazing! The blue rims 😍
Right?!

Much appreciated!
@@ElectricBikeReport
@@ElectricBikeReport much appreciate you and your TEAM you all rock~!
I just stayed at an Air BnB with a branded EBC bike available to ride - bike looked awesome and had a super fun experience!!!
Very cool!
The white with the blue looks super clean!
It does!
It sure stands out in a crowd!!!
I'm seriously considering this one. So far about $3,500 as you have it built per your video, and without the added costs of custom logos. However, I like that the company is in the USA. 🇺🇲👍😎
So awesome! This bike looks great
It does!
WOW! SUCH A COOL BIKE🚲
Very much agreed!
🤩🤩🤩🤩 Very Cool!!!
Good review and very nice ebike. However its relatively expensive. To compare, look at the Mokwheel Asphalt ST. Comes with torque peddling, 7 speeds, rear rack, headlight and tail lights, fenders, 14.4 Ahr battery, hydraulic brakes, color display, front suspension fork, etc. It can go 28 mph (I've had it 30 mph). All for $1,500. Its a steal. Yeah you can't customize the paint but it comes in several great colors (I have Mocha). Do yourself a favor and compare it.
Thats a great package. If they had a fat tire one they could do a US Army or US Marines theme bike with some old school OD Green paint and Black lettering with a white star or 2. Like a tank markings. A canvas set of bags like motorcycles of WW2 😁👍
It wouldn't shock us if they could make it happen. We saw an American flag themed one when we toured their facilities a few months back. They can definitely flex their customizing muscles.
So many options! I love that blue 💙
It's a nice shade of blue for sure (said with only a small amount of bias :) )
Great info on the Model R
Glad you think so!
Amazing bike, such a beauty.
It really is!
Your Opinion on how this would do for long (50 miles plus) rides with decent hills? thanks
Hi Is the cadence sensor noticeable the round magnet on the right side of the bottom bracket? Is it there? Thank you! I wanted to change my torque to cadence .
Another great review! EBR is 1 of 2 CZcams ebike reviewers that I rely on for thorough and accurate reviews on ebikes, and I love your standardization of the reviews (Hell Hole every time!). The customization on Electric Bike Company is amazing, I can get lost on their website switching things and colors around. A couple of questions. In your review, you had two sets of headlights on the basket, 1 toward the top and one at the bottom. Was one the high beam and the other the low beam? Why did you go with cadence sensor on your bike rather than torque? And finally, if I ordered I would need to keep costs down initially, so assume switching to a larger battery later wouldn't be hard, but can that upgraded tech package be added later after purchase? Thanks for your work.
Thanks for the kind words, Robert!
1. Yup! High and low beams.
2. We've designed a few of the EBC bikes we've reviewed, but we usually tell them to surprise us. In this case, EBC did the customization for us. The logo on the bike was a nice surprise!
3. The chat feature on their website has been helpful when we used it in the past. Maybe ask there and see about both the battery and tech package.
@ElectricBikeReport I did check with Electric Bike Company and I could add a larger battery later. But be more cost effective to get it at time of ordering..And to add tech package later I would have to ship back to them for them to do it, so again better to do at time of order.
Is there a weight recommendation? Also are tires with more tread available like for riding on logging roads?
Great looking bike with great looking wheels 😊😊😊
Couldn't agree more!
Really solid review. Also, all EBC bikes can be changed to Class 3 really easily via the display. And other models ( A and J) can be changed to "Off-Road" allowing throttle to 28 mph as well.
Thank you! And yes, they can be. Good points!
@@GordonJones88 the model J and A you can. I'm an EBC dealer.
@@GordonJones88 throttle to 28mph is only available in off road mode.
Needs to have a customize option to have a belt drive
Noticed the front chain ring is a large 58T, much larger than other bike manufactures. How hard is it to pedal without any assist starting in 1st gear? Does the torque sensor perform well on this bike? Thank you. Scott
Ours was a cadence sensor. That's one of the options you can pick. It's not bad if you remember to put it in first before coming to a stop. It is rough if you left it in 7th though. You'll want to have the throttle help you get going at that point
@@ElectricBikeReport Thank you
Nice! But no support, service or distribution. 😢
They actually have quite the brick & mortar network so there is plenty of service to be had.
If the bike had been upped to Class 3 mode, do you think the throttle hill climb test would have been stronger?
That usually isn't the case when we've tested that in the past, unless the throttle speeds tie in to the max pedal speeds (which they're not supposed to, but it happens).
Considering how much more motor you seem to get with even light pedaling in first gear, we see the slower throttle time as not a huge issue.
@@ElectricBikeReport I'd still like to see the comparison. I live at top of a long hill, so even with low gear, I'm near 70 years old and would be using the throttle a lot to get home.
Definitely interested in this bike. My current ebike does OK on a full charge up that hill, but at the end of a long ride, it barely gets to my driveway. I have to pedal.
How tall are you? Would this work for someone 5’4” ?
6'1". I think it could work pretty well for you, especially if you opt for the smaller wheels to lower the step over height even more.
Where can the specs and geometry be found?
If you click the link in the video for pricing it will take you to the builder for the spec.
Nice bike at its price point
Agreed!
Disappointed to see the bike's weak performance during the hill test. Was the bike set to class 3 mode for this test ?
It was not. We test bikes as they ship since there are different limitations in various locations.
@@ElectricBikeReport thank you !
so youre reviewing your own bike? interesting
Not quite :) It has the Electric Bike Report logo on it, but the Electric Bike Company can get any company's branding on there.
Bigger motor
