Yes, the singing is... extra.
Trrill™ is about florid passages, improvisatory underpinnings, staccato'd intuitions, and virtuosities even at their most ridiculous.
But it's also about the biggest, boldest form of vocal emission, with aural examples of basically correct singing, correct impostazione-chiaroscuro, vowel clarity, firm and centered pitch, correct vibrato action, absence of throatiness or thickness, sounds free from constriction and from the acoustic noise that accompanies it-with occasional video examples that demonstrate what the body, face, mouth, jaw, and tongue look like when used with correct impostazione-the vocal emission of the one and only Italian school.

I've always loved Donizetti and can never decide which TWO I would choose for the desert island--his "Lucia" and "Anna Bolena" or Bellini's "Norma" and "Puritani" (or "Pirata"). You've given me a lot to think about, especially in relation to Verdi--and a lot to listen to!

Il grande (e sfortunato) Bastianini, impeccabile (come sempre) nei suoi facili FA acuti naturali. Nel ruolo di Giorgio Germont ha debuttato Apollinare (Apollo in arte) Granforte, in Argentina. La romanza "di provenza ..." gli è stata fatta replicare, a furor di pubblico, per ben 3 volte. Ed era al suo debutto.
Ci ha tutto, incredibile!

OMG, I didn't know he died so young! Poor Ettore! Such a great baritone, I am really sad.
Not only he died so young, his peak was shortened by throat tumor. It's almost tragic. Ettore is certainly one of the greatest singers I've ever heard.
When Ettore Bastianini died we were truly robbed of one of the great voices of opera and he was robbed of his prime years. He had a deep rich dark sonorous tone that all baritones should have, almost bass like which makes sense because he began his career as a bass.

there are only a few others such as MacNail, have delivered the similar way, true baritone grace.

@Barone Vitellio Scarpia Ettore was young then, it is great delivery, of course it is better to sing this at his 50 or 55 maybe. Bottom line, cannot be high pitched and strong mechanical shouting.
