    Hope you enjoy this one folks. To clarify for some, Paid Promotion is the legally required wording when a video includes something you didn't pay for (or, of course, if you are simply paid directly) In any of my videos, if someone is kind enough to give me something for free to try out....and it's a lump of junk, I am free to say "this is a lump of junk" 😂 Just in case anyone thought I was in it for the money and toys (in which case, you are also insane 😂)

      User 1: "You know you've made it when you're getting sent free stuff from a huge brand like that. Great review Mark."You: "Hey User 1! Absolutely, it's always exciting to receive free stuff from well-known brands. Mark's review was indeed great! By the way, I recently came across a new project called the freebeat Morph 2-in-1 eBike. It's a revolutionary eBike that offers a dual mode system for both indoor and outdoor use. What's even more impressive is its indoor recharge feature, allowing you to charge the bike while using it indoors. It's definitely worth checking out!"User 2: "This eBike seems really cool. I've been researching eBikes for some time now, and this one seems to have some outstanding features. I especially love the fact that it has a 750W motor and can reach speeds of up to 20mph. The suspension and fat tires also make it perfect for any terrain. Can't wait to try it out!"You: "Hey User 2! Totally agree with you. The freebeat Morph eBike does have some outstanding features. Its powerful 750W motor provides great speed, and the 80mm front suspension and puncture-resistant fat tires ensure a smooth ride on any terrain. Plus, it's IPX5 Waterproof finish means you can ride in any weather condition. But the indoor recharge feature is what really sets it apart. It's a game-changer in terms of convenience and versatility. You should definitely give it a try!"User 3: "I love the idea of generating CO2-free mileage from indoor cycling. It's a fantastic way to stay fit while also making a positive impact on the environment. This eBike seems like a win-win!"You: "Hello User 3! Absolutely, the freebeat Morph 2-in-1 eBike offers a unique blend of fitness and sustainable technology. By recycling the energy generated during indoor classes, your calories are converted into CO2-free miles for outdoor rides. It's a brilliant way to stay fit while reducing your carbon footprint. You should definitely consider giving it a go! Let me know if you have any other questions or need further information."

    Mark, another great review! Since I'm 63 years old and just discovered indoor cycling, all your videos have been inspirational and I believe very honest. Despite Wahoo offering you free stuff, you still give your honest assessment, which I like. Having said that, I decided to take up riding two years ago and bought a cheap Chinese bike and have had nothing but trouble. On day 1 of riding (outdoors), the gear shifter broke. After waiting a week or more for the new part to arrive, I ventured off to ride again, obviously after installing the new shifter. On day 2, the right-hand side bike pedal fell off as I was climbing a hill so I went flying. I had to wheel the bike back to my garage after shamefully hitting the pavement and looking around to see who captured that on video! Thankfully I was almost home. After reinstalling the pedal and tightening it way more than I did the first time, I set off to ride on Day 3. Day 3 turned out to be a disaster too. I took the bike around the corner after leaving my house and the chain broke! Needless to say, the bike has been sitting in the garage without using ever since. Now, you've managed to motivate/inspire me again to get off the couch and exercise because I see that my health is too important. I plan to install a new chain on my bike (before deciding to purchase another) to see if I can get it to finally work, but this time as an indoor trainer. I'm taking this indoor cycling thing in small increments because I've been known to go all in on something and then quit without giving it a real chance. Again, I simply can't afford to sit idle any longer because I know it's not good for my health. Armed with your training videos and thought-provoking tips and honest critique of equipment, I'm better suited to make decisions going forward. Keep up the great videos!

    I have 2 vacmasters. To make the hit area of the airflow better I have turned them on its side so now the airflow covers my whole torso. I have one angled more towards my head and the other lower towards my body. Bought both last winter and not used both together yet, the flow of the one towards my head is enough.

    I added a Headwind after a few weeks of working out with a regular table fan. The HRM pairing is awesome! No more puddles of sweat on the floor or salt-crusted top tubes. I haven't tried with it paired to the speed sensor to simulate outdoor riding. I agree about the price though. I leveraged some credit card points and other perks to bring the price down to a sane level. Oh, the other nice feature: sleep mode. It turns on/off when it detects my HRM so it's one less switch to remember before I get on the bike and start a workout.

    That’s the advice given to me ten years ago when I first started triathlons from a veteran. Hasn’t failed me yet. I still have and use my Garmin 910XT when swimming and I recently shelled out for a beautiful Apple Watch 7 and some Favero Assioma power pedals for my spin bike trainer. All in all I’m now ready to do my best year ever training at home and then hitting the age grouper events. Maybe one day, that wahoo bike. Maybe 🤔

    That was a decent first-impression review of the Headwind. I think the ability to control the fan speed based on heart-rate is ideal for indoor riding. I figure that I’ll end up getting one but I am hoping they’ll release an updated version that’ll make it easier to adjust the direction of the wind based on your setup.

    A very good and balanced review. I had the remote control Vacmaster and on the basis of this review ordered the Headwind to compare it. It never occurred to me how narrow the Vacmaster airflow was until I tried the Headwind. Tried putting it on its side but never worked as well as the HW and also looked a bit odd. After a week comparing them I returned the Vacmaster. HW definitely not an essential purchase but does work really well and improves the whole experience. Keep up the good work. Thanks

      @@odmods The first session went really well. I currently have it sitting on a shelf about 6" off the ground, with the fan outlet almost touching my front wheel. The air stream was hitting me from about my waist up to my neck, so I've now angled the fan up a bit so that it'll hit my face a bit more. I normally leave four pools of sweat on the garage floor from my hands and elbows (1 hour FTP Booster sessions on Zwift), but didn't leave a single drop last night. I THINK I'll get on fine without having to mount the fan on its side (plus I'm not sure the fan's bearings would enjoy that), but time will tell. I'm really happy with the first impressions, and it's very light, quiet and compact for the output you get. Remote control is an absolute winner!

    HR linked fan intensity is ok in theory, but not for some cyclists In practice. The HR of well trained cyclists can take a very long time to increase at medium to high intensity, but the effort (and sweating) can still be high with this relatively low HR…

    • @VirdiTube
      @VirdiTube Před 2 lety

      This is exactly why the headwind isn't great in practice, generally your heart rate will be lagging to the previous effort. Who wants a rush of cold air when you're on your recovery interval? I'm not sold, remote option better by far.

    Thanks for being HONEST!! I don't think they are worth that kind of money either. The whole purpose of the fan at the end of the day is to cool off there is no air resistance in play with that thing no matter how hard you try. I do think its cool that you can set thresholds for it for it but still nothing to write home about. While the name HEADWIND is catchy, it's non-existent.

Works great and with the fan setup closer than you have it (around where the front wheel would end) it gives a really good blast on the torso and head. Love that you say you wear a "smedium" even though you're a big guy. I think you're a smedium in "tight-shirt-muscle-guy" world. In "average-guy-don't-accentuate-the-rolls-and-lumps" world you're an X-large. :-)

    This is probably a daft question but can't the cheap one be mounted rotated 90 deg to one side? That way all of you would be in the longitudinal plane with the most wind?

    A good quality giant industrial fan will move literally 10x the airflow of this fan for half the price. The variable speed thing is a gimmick. Also, large fans are relatively quiet as the large blades don't need to move very fast.

    Looking at the reviews by good reviewers (DC Rainmaker) I think you’ll find the Garmin will be better at this stage. The cycling caps are great under helmets

    how do you get the optical HR to work with that NATO strap?

    • @MarkLewisfitness
      @MarkLewisfitness  Před 3 lety +1

      The nato is on a Seiko Arnie. When I do use a nato on the Garmin (Which I sometimes do in obstacle course races where there is a danger of ripping it off) I am always wearing a heart strap anyway.

  • @KetzalSterling
    @KetzalSterling Před 3 lety

    Tried many solutions. Now use what most professional indoor racers use. 3 fans. One narrow at face, two low, diagonal, aimed over body and legs. This is the ideal setup. They should all be as powerful as possible. A Kickr fan is MILES from powerful enough on it's own. If you're dripping a single drop of sweat, you're cooling setup is not optimal and your training is significantly compromised. Visible sweat is your body literally wasting energy trying to cool itself. Many simply don't understand this. Pools of sweat are NOT a sign of a good training session. They are a sign of the opposite. Poor cooling, lower power output. Less long-term improvement. Unless you're doing heat adaptation training. Your target is no visible sweat. Yes it sounds impossible. Achievable outdoors in cool weather. That is your target indoors too.

    • @MarkLewisfitness
      @MarkLewisfitness  Před 3 lety

      Yep, it is a good point because I will come back from a summers ride outside without having sweated at all (that I have noticed)

    I recognize the benefits of the Headwind - However winning against your old setup also seems like an easy win - because it narrow field and no remote control of your current setup. Congrats on the coffee mug... and well the other free stuff 😉

    • @MarkLewisfitness
      @MarkLewisfitness  Před 3 lety +1

      I've done a couple of "paid promotions" - It's actually the wrong way to describe it (but CZcams rules say you need the disclaimer anytime you get something free) Because it sounds like you are paid to promote something - when in fact, a company says "have this, see what you think" - if I thought it was shit, I am quite free to say it is 😂

    I don't think I could use any more bluetooth stuff. I think there is a storm cloud of signals in the air when I'm exercising and I'm sure adding another wouldn't be worth it. A 30$ fan for the front and one behind me for my back/legs with remotes that I have next to me is plenty for my liking. The price and MORE bluetooth stuff is a huge turn-off for me.
