If you were disappointed with a Pokémon as epic as Quagsire, then I don’t know what to say.
SAME!! I love Primarina!
So true (and factual!)
But woopy boi dose deserve better
All hail quagsire! Plus a “leak” that said there is going to be a poison type wooper, quagsire + a new evo! We’ve got a poison type wooper, and they also said there going to be a dragon dunsparse + dunsparce evo!
Wooper and Quagsire are equally good in their own ways.
I disagree with Quagsire. I think he’s a goofy and cute pokemon and I used him on my Pokémon shield team, he was a great help. His name was Woopingsir.
Yeah, Quagsire is my fav
I disagree with a lot of them XD
Mine was Woopmeister
Once I finally hatched a shiny wooper, I named him "ACQUIRED" and thus trained him to be an absolute powerhouse on my team. Don't underestimate the sire, they're very strong and very versatile
Also a tank.
Learns ice moves for coverage.
Toxic and yawn
And can't be hit with electric types because of the ground type.
So all hail the Woopi boi.
I totally agree on Crabominable. The first time I played moon, I caught a crabrawler and named him Rocky. I didn’t know what it evolved into, so I looked it up, and then I sadly put Rocky in the PC because I didn’t want to evolve him into a hillbilly yeti
Worst was realizing that it took most of the main story to get to see its evolution, super disappointing
"Hillbilly Yeti" hahahahaha
For me, the most disappointing evolutions must be diggersby. bunnelby is cute and had potential to become something more similar to furret or linoone in terms of coolness and cuteness, but diggersby is just... meh
a unit though
I don’t know why but diggersby has always given me creepy hic uncle vibes.
I have to pass that title off to sobble. His final form is awful.
Skwovet could of been great…
What we got was a family guy cartoon
@@noodlesandeggs1512 I literally made the Peter Griffin laugh the first time I saw Skwovet.
Aromatisse actually broke my heart. A Fairy type inspired by plague doctor aesthetics was genuinely a FIRE idea for a Pokemon and Spritzee is the cutest little thing... and then it evolves. It's like being slapped in the face with a dead fish. I cannot believe for a second Game Freak's art team couldn't come up with better designs. I will never understand how you mess up 'plague doctor flamingo fairy' so colossally.
It should have become a fairy dark type when it evolved and gone farther into the plague doctor inspiration
It dont think aromatisse deserves the hate it gets. I dont like it, but people compare it to much to plague doctors when thats not really the point of the pokemon. The only part of it that is based on plague doctor is its face, because plague doctors had perfume in their masks because they thought it would protect them from the illness. If it wasnt for that one thing, aromatisse would have littarily nothing to do with plague doctors.
yeah tbh Aromatisse is one pretty unpopular mon, and it's also one that people commonly say 1 thing about it (other then how ugly it looks to many) and that would be: "Wasted Potential"
Whenever I encounter a Aromatisse. I choose my most powerful Pokémon and obliterate it.
@@quaxolotl6509 But the thing is its face is iconicly that mask, it's the most recognisable and noteworthy thing about it. Its perfume influence comes from that too, from the herbs and spices plague doctors would store in their masks in the false believe it'd ward off disease. It has everything to do with them and that's why people are hung up on it.
I'm shocked and appalled! There hasn't been a single evolution more pleasing than Quagsire
What! You can’t think of one evolution slightly better than a worse wooper? It’s not even cute anymore, and I’ve always been pressured to like it although there are clearly cuter Pokemon to ‘worship’!
If you think Quagsire is anything but an improvement on wooper, then I'm not even going to try to explain the joy of Quagsire to you
@@sirrybarkthenotable9520 Quagsire *IS* cute.
@@cononsberg6919, please do!
@@maybenick maybe, but definitely nothing on wooper!
You can't just put Ursaluna and Quagsire in a list like this and get away with it. They are dope pokemon
Fr
Delphox, Sneasler, and Intelion too.
@@TheLuckOfTheClaws sure inteleon the other 2 for me 🤨
@@nuggee398I hate weavile and I like fire starters, it ain’t that deep.
@@TheLuckOfTheClaws he ain't even make I deep just said his view lmao
I have no idea why I like Ursaluna, I think it's the happy dance it does when it finds something. I had the same thing happen with Dreadnaw, I was like eh. Then it made its dorky happy smile when I camped in Sword (right at the camera when you arrive), and now it's one of my favorites. I loved Espurr and Nickit, and was generally disappointed with their evos (given much more with Nickit). Humanoid pokemon are really tough for me, and in general, I don't really like them, but there are definitely some exceptions (Gardevoir, Gallade, Lucario, Machop line, Bisharp line, Grimmsnarl line, even Emboar). Hard disagree on Quagsire, love that dopey salamander.
Honestly I'm in total love with Espurr's evos lol
I’m my eyes, Ursaluna has the same eyebrow raise as that one The Rock meme, which instantly makes it S-tier
I find Ursaluna to be more of a legitimate bear than the overly bipedal ones that pokemon is filled with, so it gets a good grade from me on that alone. Its sheer size and build makes it legit intimidating as well, even if its face is a bit dopey (and its not like the same can't be said of some real bears).
It's the obsession with balls of mud, I guess.
I'm sorry, but, Quagsire!? We all love Quagsire! 😅
Theres no way the noibat family is here
Noivern is fricking awesome
THANK you! Inteleon was such a disappointment after seeing Sobble. Even Drizzile is better.
Woah
Good
Excuse me but 12 days ago??
@@M0thwinged Ron probably shared it with him when it was private
@@M0thwinged patron
I personally didn't find Meowstic underwhelming at all. It does make sense to me for a Pokemon that can't contain its power to grow up to be able to, however; like Pichu not being able to contain its power and hurting itself when it uses its electrical attacks growing up to be Pikachu, who is more able to contain its power and doesn't hurt itself. Though I think that Meowstic is more realistic in this than Pikachu in the fact that it evolves through training; where one will generally naturally learn self-control; rather than happiness.
I've also always loved Delphox as it is. I've just always found it just as cute as Braixen.
For me, one of the most underwhelming evolution is Noctowl, Hoothoot has such an cool and cute design, with the "one leg" thing , the clock motif and all, and then It looses it all
I agree
I personally think Noctowl is a great design... But not as an evolution for Hoothoot.
YEAH, with hoothoot you have this new mechanic (day/night) implemented really well in its desing, the clock thingy with his eyes, his menancing standing, and then you evolve it just to get an owl, with nothing going on, just bigger :(
I gotta say, I know that I have seen multiple videos describing people being disappointed with Delphox. But, everybsingle time it comes up, I am surprised again. It always feels like someone is punking me that anyone could be disappointed by such an amazing pokemon.
Yeah, I've never really understood the disdain for delphox.
@@jaschabull2365 bipedal
@@ShaddowSamurai
Ok, yeah, it was one of those fire starters that wouldn't stay on all fours, but if that were the long and short of it, you'd think braixen would get as much heat as pignite, but braixen seems to be exempt for reasons I can't fathom.
@@jaschabull2365 everyone hates pigniite not for the reason of it being on two legs but the fact that it's another fire fighting starter people don't show their dislike with braixen because that isn't what their stuck with its delphox who is also bipedal
@@ShaddowSamurai
Don't see why pignite should share the hatred with emboar while braixen is exempt and all the hatred goes to delphox. I've heard quite a few people say they prefer braixen to delphox too, so I have to suspect there's more to it than how many legs it stands on.
I just can't for the life of me see what that is.
I always think it’s pretty lame when a Pokémon’s evolution just means them getting bigger and barely anything else
Yeah. Like Luxray and Zebstrika
@@grunkleg.3110 Luxray is one of the stylish Sinnoh Pokémon! And Zebstrika is very stylish too!
I know a lot of people fully expected Coalossal to be a train but I don't think that's where it's whole concept was leading. Here's how I see it: Rolycoly=Coal (obviously), Carkol=The minecarts that carry the coal out of the mines, Coalossal=The mountain that the coal came from in the first place. I'm personally very happy with Coalossal and I respect it honestly, it's a great mon!
P.S. I unironically really like Inteleon, I think it's a great final evo for Sobble and I will take that to my grave!
That is a genuinely clever way to look at it. I was already personally glad that we didn't just get a train made of rocks but now that you brought this to light I can appreciate it all the more.
@@mbcmechachu You're welcome. :) 👍
I kinda agreee what ron said, where if it's regular design was it's gmax but smaller it would be absolutely amzazing, since it would keep a simular design and still work with the concept the line was going for
I've seen a lot of art for Delphox and it's actually a pretty cool Pokemon to look at. I loved that redesign Sylvaur made as the changes are small but extremely effective and add more to the concept like the stick wand now being a stick staff. I also agree it's model should've changed as having it stand like that all stiff makes it look unappealing. It's as if it doesn't want to feel strong
Delphox was my X starter. The only people I see that even remember Delphox are… artists….
Right? They should have in-game delphox hunched down waving its wand like in the official art
I dislike Delphox in general and I felt like Sylvaur made it look better when it came to presentation. Makes it look imposing.
At least that redesign makes Delphox look like a powerful mage. It’s original design barely even looks magical. And a staff is definitely what they should’ve done instead of a wand. Or heck, they could’ve changed the color of the fire to make it a little more interesting.
I feel like Delphox really didn't benefit from 3D sprites, especially as it was only the first generation to have them. As you said, the way it stands all stiff isn't exactly beneficial for it, whereas if there were sprites then they could have managed to give it some more personality, as we saw with a lot of Pokémon who had massive downgrades in gen 6.
Meowstic is literally my favourite pokemon, and quagsire is amazing so I can't say I agree with this list.. at all
Meowstic is also my favorite Pokémon shiny male Meowstic specifically but Then again it is Ron’s opinion I just wonder is he will will the kitty a cool redesign in another video. The different abilities and stats for Meowstic I think get overlooked as a really cool inclusion too. Pranker Meowstic shreds
I think the argument is made that Espurr is much more unique design that Meowstic just couldn't live up to such high expectations
@@snowdasher2394 same i love shiny male meowstic, I was hunting for a shiny one recently but I got a shiny female espurr 🥲
And i love using prankster meowstic, glad my favourite pokemon is actually useful in competitive
@@JustJulyo What high expectations? Espurr is mostly just loved because meme material lol.
@@Sylvieboy72 can't top a meme
That's an internet fact
Even though I love Delphox, I gotta admit that redesign was awesome!
Furry Gardevoir
I’m in the same boat here. Behind Cyndaquil, Delphox is one of my favorite starters.
Can I just say: I literally LOVE Ursaluna, and I do not get what people apparently dislike about it.
I love it's color scheme, how it's mostly quadrupedal, how it's covered in dust and dirt but it somehow doesn't look messy, it's evolution method, the fact that Ursaring evolved at all.
I mean what was everyone expecting? Just a bigger bear?
Nah, man. This is way cooler.
not to mention personally, i do like how Ursaluna is quadruped like real bears are, like i get the bears in pokemon are all bipedal which does make sense as bear's can stand and even occasionally move on their hind legs, but it's pretty nice to see a quadruped bear in pokemon
Pokémon are animal inspired but it's still contrived from the words pocket and monster, so they're not always going to be what we want or expect.
@@bulborb8756 Beartic is classified as a quadruped (also seen on all fours in the anime before) but I get what you mean by a bear Pokémon exclusively on all fours.
@@IgnitedQuils ok im gonna be honest with beartic specifically....beartic looks very odd on all fours in my opinion
I really like the design of Ursaluna personally. I just wished that it evolved directly from Teddiursa instead since Ursaring as a design to me already felt complete.
Gengar was disappointing to me when I was younger. I liked haunter’s design being really ghostly and gengar just didn’t deliver the same way. And sneasler is a special case for two reasons 1. It’s a newer Pokémon that has come out since I’ve gotten older so I give it a little more leeway, however 2. It does replace my favorite Pokémon, Toxicroak, in most competitive setting so I have to have high expectations on its design, and like you said, it’s individual parts look fine, but overall it’s too humanoid. They should’ve made its torso more top heavy so it looked like it actually has strong chest muscles from climbing. I would’ve given it shorter legs but kept the long arms and claws so there’s juxtaposition, and I’d just shift the colors on the main body ever so slightly
Same, I liked Haunter's aesthetic better. Don't get me wrong, Gengar does its own thing well, but I feel like Haunter has this neat creature-like and ghost-like vibe that's both creepy and friendly while Gengar is more of a sinister gremlin with a human-like feel to it that I'm just not as fond of personally.
@@theoaremevano3227 yeah haunter looked more ghostly imo
Think about Sneasler having a more buffed-up built is that it's meant to look femenine, so guess that's why they went for a slimmer built
Sneasler's concept are cool (you can watch a video by Lockstin and Gnoggins about it), but I agree the excecution isn't the best
I always disliked gengar compared to haunter, I remember being so confused when I found out it was actually popular.
Gengar was ok but mega Gengar IMO is one of the ugliest mega like why remove the leg and add those weird leg arm thingy?
Samurott is the first one that comes to mind for me. Oshawott is super adorable and Dewott is so badass it is perhaps arguable for one of the best middle stage starters. I can’t explain the disappointment I felt when I evolved my Dewott. I hadn’t looked at what it evolved into so was really excited for an awesome samurai and then I got this?
I’d say Samurott would be okay if it followed a proper pattern with it’s prevos, and it was better than it’s prevos. But honestly, it’s so bad I’m happy to stick and everstone on my Dewott and take it to level 100 before switching out to an eviolite.
I will not accept this quagsire slander
Came to the comments to defend my favourite derpy friend, Quagsire, and was pleased to see so many others jumping in. Quagsire is literally perfect. How dare.
I am kinda sad that these are comsidered underwhelming because most of these are some of my favorite Pokémon
I LOVE Inteleon, Ambipom, Ursaluna, and Sneasler. I've bonded with these Pokémon in my own way over the years on my journey. I also have some unique design tastes. Thanks for the video!
Me too! excluding ambipom. I like delphox as well.
for me, sneasler is no contest superior because i hate weavile
It's always sad when people just give up on some pokemon because they don't like their evolution, like i'm sure if they gave them a chance and used them for a playthrough they'd learn to enjoy the designs
@@gaspardsavoureux8680 there have been playthroughs that I ended up using Pokémon I never thought I would, and now some of them are my favorites!
@@TheLuckOfTheClaws Why are you hating Weavile?
@@SuperPlacido1 I just don’t like it’s design, I think it looks ugly and boring, just a pointless evolution
tbh i think poliwrath is one of the most creative designs of all time. having an entire game based on the concept of evolution and where you learn from the begining that a caterpillar evolves into a cocoon and then to a butterfly, only to break and have the tadpole envolve into the BIG ANGRY BUFF TADPOLE is the amount of subversiveness and irony that i love
Inteleon's reason to be so thin was revealed with it's Gigantamax form. It has to support its whole body on top of a tower made of its tail
I disagree on Ursaluna, I think the certain degree of goofiness just adds to the charm, and made discovering just how strong it is more impactful. I remember playing Legends I had zero plans to use it on my team originally, and then because I wanted to at least try out all the new Mons I tried using it…and watched it DEMOLISH everything I put it in front of. The fact I could put it in front of Alphas and it would not only match them in size naturally but also hold its own against them and take them out only cemented that respect. I’m not saying I wouldn’t still like it if it had a more obviously ferocious design, but the fact that its given goofier design made me be caught off guard and delighted by just how much it showed up for me I think in a way made me like it even more. It even ended up becoming the ace of my team over things like Zoroark I already expected to love and find powerful. I love being surprised by a Pokémon like that, so I have a soft spot for this big dig-happy boi. One of my overall favorite Mons now. 😄
Glad to see I'm not the only one here who ended up out of it onto their team last minute. I recall correctly in the case for me specifically my Ursaluna named Sasha actually ended up sweeping Volo's team.
@@mbcmechachu Ha ha not surprised, it was similar for me, although I believe I led with something else because I didn’t know that fight was coming. In any case, I suppose that’s yet another indicator of what a badass it is given Volo’s team aren’t pushovers.
I really love delphox, maybe because i love "mage" in general and mage with fire or ice attributes is always my favourite in A lot of games, movie, anime etc.
Haven’t watched the video yet but how dare you slander Quagsire
I LOVED Nickit. It was ready to jump into my top 20. Than it evolved and… ugh.
Agreed, a dark type red fox is what wanted for a while but thievil disappointed, but tbh thievul is growing on me
See I liked thievul but nickit's kind of a bland design.
People think Female Unfezant is ugly? I prefer them to the male form. The earthy tones are very easy on the eyes and charming, and I like realistic gender differences in fantasy animals
I actually like some of these evolutions better that their pre evolutions.
Me too. I personally prefer boltund and dubwool over yamper and wooloo
I will always stand by Rhyperior > rhydon no matter what
@@galvsparks6295 what you just said should be considered a crime
@@tezminator Damn truth is a crime now ? No wonder human society is downgrading

I really like Intellion. I like the sly, secret agent look. Kinda reminds me of Randall from Monsters Inc. His signature attack of his finger/spirit gun shooting water and his gmax form using a sniper atop it's towering tail is pretty cool to me.
Yeah, I was just thinking extra bulk would probably cost it some of the sleekness that's a big part of its appeal, and suits its stealthy superspy persona.
I think what mostly rubs people the wrong way with inteleon is that it doesn't seem all that much like an intuitive continuation of its unevolved forms. It took me a bit to get that drizzile's emo persona was meant to bridge the sorrowful sobble and the cryptic inteleon, so its going all superspy in its final form did come off a bit left-field at first, even if it kind of makes some sense if you think about it. Never really took that out on inteleon, myself, I always thought it was the coolest starter.
I disagree. Quagsire is SO epic and pog. How could you disgrace them like that.
Aromatisse would have been nice as a split evo. One to focus on the fairy and flamingo, and one to focus on plauge doctor elements.
Samurott looks cool, but I wish they did more with the concept they already gave us. It's ironic how the one Pokémon I would've liked to stay bipedal goes quadrupedal.
I heard Samurott was designed first, with the concept of a bipedal Pokemon being quadrupedal at the beginning. I agree due to how much I love Dewott.
I actually like that whole family. How could someone hate that majestic facial hair?
I don't understand! You're talking about "disappointing evolutions" and you proceed to show some of my favorite evolutions??? 🤣
I will not tolerate this quagsire slander
Quagsire is my favorite Pokémon. I just love his big derpy smile and how he just chills floating around in the water. Also water ground is a good type
Delphox and Intelleon are in my top 4 starters. I didn't get into Pokemon until an adult. X&Y were my first mainline games. Picked them up a year after the Switch for cheap. Fennekin was my first Pokemon. That whole line is in my top 10 for nestalgia. I really got into Sword and Shield because they came out right when I was at my peak interest in the franchise. And I fell in love with every stage of Sobble.
I get I'm in the minority. I'm not trying to convince anyone. Just sharing my love for 2 controversial Pokemon.
Quagsire is one of my favorite Gen 2 Pokemon he's so derpy and cool who wouldn't want a Derpy Pokemon on there team?
I love Gothitelle’s design so much but imagine if it looked more victorian. It would be EPIC
yup- the current design looks like a black Christmas Tree... : /
Thank god u didnt include primarina, its my 2nd favorite pokemon
Inteleon and Delphox are my fav starter designs of their generations, and Rhyperior is my favorite Gen 4 evo😑😂
I will not stand for this Quagsire Slander-
YES!... Thank for including Delphox. I was gonna use Fennekin in my first Gen 6 until I saw Delphox. I was so disappointed in Delphox that I chose Froakie.
Am I the only one who stayed away from delphox due to how people labeled it but got back to it afterwards after stopping caring about internet?
I'm okay with Delphox personally but I'll admit that I (note that I am not a designer here) would have done things a bit differently with its design like turning its wand into a staff/broomstick and giving it a big, furry witch hat. I also would have went all in on the black since Braixen introduced it and Delphox does nothing with it.
Another thing I would have done is _(bare with me here.)_ give more dommy mommy energy. Plenty of people already have an... _attachment_ to Braixen so why not play it up? Double down? Sounds like a plan to me!
I understand everyone’s disappointment with Delphox, but I love Delphox 🔥🔮
How could you be dissapointed with Quagsire :(
Quag is my top 7 pokemon
Because it’s a less cute wooper that I’ve always been pressured to like and it’s not even good at its concept
In defense of Muk, it's intentionally simple, not because of the technology, but because it's the most iconic Slime Monster homage. Sure slimes have evolved in their design over the years thanks to video game development, but there's just something appealing about the simple concept of an unstoppable glob that just keeps getting bigger, like the Blob.
I’m sorry, but I’m incredibly disappointed with Unfezant. I ditched that bird literally the second I had a different flyer.
Same here
Quagsire and Inteleon, I actually really like
Aww Boltund is so great :(
Samurott is the best water starter design in my opinion. It doesn't flow that well from Dewott but that's not a problem with its design. If anything I would change Dewott to match Sumurott.
yeah, i think when people say when they're disappointed by the design they usually mean they're dissapointed by the transistion between Dewott to Samurott
@@StigmaKRL I mean nobody complains that wartortle has fluffy ears and tail though. There is no indicaton of Blastoise cannons anywhere.
I think Braixen is the best middle stage evo, I hoped that fenneken's final form was braixen. 😭
THE THIRD E IN FENNEKIN IS SUPPOSED TO BE AN I!
Unpopular opinion: I really like delphox, I think it’s the best kalos starter, and imo greninja is more disappointing
no one cares
@@bestleefboi Then how the heck did they get those likes?
Honestly, Greninja isn't a bad design, but I don't really understand why it ranks so high among so many people. Idk, maybe I just don't care much for generic ninja designs.
Meowstic doesn't deserve to be on the list
Rhyperior is so underrated imo, rhydon seems a bit simple, but rhyperior is the pokemon we really needed. Rhydon is awesome but not fit for a final evo imo. Plus an evolution was necessary to rival geodude’s line
Honestly, I don't understand the Ursaluna hate I've been seeing. Ursaluna was instantly a pokemon I liked when I saw the leaks and then I used one and grew more and more attached to it to the point where I'd say it's probably my second favorite Pokemon
I kinda have to disagree on Pidgeot. It's pretty dope
Some of these are pretty disappointing tho. Especially Crabominable. I don't outright hate it since I used a few, but after noticing how ugly it really is, I'm not exactly as fond of it as I once was. If it had a more intimidating expression and better hair up top, I might actually like it more
It IS dope but it really is "pidgeotto with long hair" and that is underwhelming
I love Ursaluna and quagsire, their pretty great evolutions imo
A lot of people think female unfezant is hideous and I don't know why. Looks fine to me.
I'd love to see a video of you redesigning these mons!
I would like Sceptile a lot more if its tail only had two rows of fern leaves instead of four…you know, just like an actual fern. With four it just looks too bulky and cumbersome.
Also why does it only have two leaves on each wrist when Grovile has three? Shouldn’t that be the other way around??
Rhyperior is actually one of my favorite Pokémon, in the top 15 at least. Being a huge paleobiology fan it reminds me of Ankylosaurids, and I'm a big fan of most pokemon inspired by prehistoric animals. The rock cannon idea is amazing, I love the idea of a slow, armored beast that destroys foes from afar using its arms as cannons. Definitely my second favorite rock type only behind Tyranitar, and my second favorite ground type behind Garchomp.
So shoutout to the other four people that like Rhyperior more than Rhydon, yall get my respect 👍
Controversial opinion: Rhyperior is one of my top 5 favourite Pokémon. He looks like a rhinoceros carpenter and I think that's a really cute idea.
if you ever disrespect Rhyperior like that again
Tbh I'm not disappointed in Boltund itself, just that it didn't evolve again. It looks incomplete, like Herdier with no Stoutland.
I didn't even know that people prefer male Unfezant. Until this day I only catch female Pidove because to me male Unfezant is over the top and quite unpleasant to look at.
A few months ago I convinced my sister to play sword and she had a Coalossal in her team. When her Carcoal evolved she was visually upset, the only reason she didn't go back to the previous save and didn't evolve it was because she simply rather have the power
CARKOL, NOT CARCOAL!

Theivul, Meowstic, Boltund, Sneasler and Delphox are among my favorite Pokemon..
Also Quagsire being here ain't gonna go well at all..😅
Sneasler kinda looks like someone’s crappy Sonic OC tbh
Normally I wouldn’t dislike a Pokémon just because it’s too humanoid, but I gotta admit I agree on your judgement of sneasler. Not only is it too humanoid, it’s no longer a beautiful ice type! Instantly less appealing to me (yes that’s right, I find ice types appealing, bug types too, long live snom)

My boy Quagsire did not deserve this slander. I do agree that he lost some of the iconic features that made Wooper so special but I think that might have been a part of the concept. Wooper was inspired by an axolotl which is known as an amphibian that permanently stays in it's juvenile stage (aka stays in the water). Now when it evolves, it looses the gills, gains more defined legs and arms and a more stocky body. This shows how an amphibian changes as it gets older and eventually moves to land (making it more fitting to the ground typing). Therefore, losing the iconic Wooper features was an important step as an evolution in that it gains its own defining features such as the fin on its back, purple markings and the silly noodle arms. So not only does Quagsire do a good job of building on the lore of the pokemon in terms of building on the concept (which Ron tends to point out as one of the criteria of a botched evolution) but he also has his own features that fans find appealing. I may be slightly biased considering I love this little pudgy blue boi, but the fact that a lot of people love Quagsire at all is a testament to how good he is as an evolution! However, I am open to conversation and I know that my opinion isn't the only opinion on this topic, as shown by Ron's opinion in this video. What do you guys think?
I think Dubwool and Aromatisse are prime examples of fans having their expectations too high. The Pokemon fandom is chock-full of incredible artists who have really cool designs for evolutions! But to expect Game Freak to think similarly is a bit unfair in my opinion.
I do agree that Aromatisse in general takes some time to get used to though.
THIS!! First paragraph is SO true..
I don't know what fans expected from wooloo, lol
I'll stand up for Muk. The changes in its design are subtle, but meaningful. It's larger, yes, but also more aggressive, monstrous, and amorphous. It's the difference between a spill and a natural disaster. Grimer is made of sludge, but it's clearly a creature with a defined head and limbs. Muk is a sentient all-consuming wave of poison.
Yeah, I'd be more likely to give muk a pass than some of the other barely-different gen 1 evolved forms because really there's not much you can do with grimer to evolve it without making it lose its fundamental concept of just being a pile of sludge.
I love quagsire, ursaluna and like sneasler! Swap them from this list for diggersby and this list would be way better. Still mad about diggersby!
I'm flabbergasted that you put Quagmire Quagsire on this list💀
I would love a video or a series where you fixed some of the designs on this list. You seem to know what’s wrong with their designs rather than just say they’re bad or you don’t like them.
I know he made a video on this but I’m saying I’d like if he specifically did Pokémon from this list.
@@sadman3007 you:🤡
@@snoppdoog4921 What does this comment mean?
I'm gonna say it: there was some awful slander in this video. Rhyperior, Beheeyem, Boltund, Ursaluna, etc.
Pokemon that obviously should've made the list include:
- Rapidash: Bigger Ponyta, wow
- Galarian Rapidash: Bigger Galarian Ponyta, wow
- Primeape: Hairyer Mankey, wow
- Dewgong: Seel with fins, wow
- Electrode: Upside down Voltorb, wow
- Hisuian Electrode: Upside down Hisuian Voltorb, wow
- Hypno: Drowzee, but stars in To Catch a Predator, wow
- Arbok: Ekans 2, wow
- Persian: Bigger Meowth, wow
Honestly, the lack of Gen 1 Pokemon sorta feels criminal. They're like the poster children for disappointment. Don't act like they get a pass just because they're older designs. Plenty of creative evolutions came out of Kanto, too
Dewgong and Persian are ones i love dearly, but opinion respected!
Persian looks nothing like Meowth, lmao, they're both cream colored cats and thats where the visual similarities end
I love Inteleon because he's so skinny!
For me when it comes to Coalossal while I get a lot of people were upset they didn't make it a literal steam locomotive out of flammable rocks I'm personally glad that they didn't just slap rock/fire onto Thomas the Tank Engine & called it a day. As for your comment regarding Gen 9 Miraidon clearly isn't 100% organic so it makes some sense with the design to have it literally turn its neck & tail into wheels. Stuff like Koraidon & Cyclizar on the other hand have what I would consider to be faux wheels since they're very much part of the flesh & don't appear to have independent movement from the rest of the body unlike Rolycoly, Carkol & the aforementioned Miraidon.
But trains can be quite weird and monstrous just look how many nice designs Digimon made with the concept, I think they dropped the ball with colossal like at least make it a quadruped and it looking like a knock off Rhydon don't help
@@TheDoomBlueShell like someone else said before me in this comment section the way I see things is that Rolycoly is obviously just the singular piece of coal, Carkol is symbolistic of the minecarts that were used to ship coal out of the mountains, and then finally Coalossal is representative of said mountain.
@@mbcmechachu It can also be argued that the design is inspired by the cart of Carkol being both a minecart, and a train cart, as Coalossal is both a steam engine and a mountain of coal.
a lot of these look horrible mainly because of their 3d models imo, for example Quagsire looked amazing and full of personality in gen 5, and Delphox would have been so cool if its 3d model was more dynamic and had a better "witch like" stance
i know this is a hot take, but i personally think that aromatisse's design gets way, way, WAY too much hate, when it's actually got one of the most interesting blends of inspiration there is
its design is most likely inspired by owls, perfume, and masquerade, sure, but there's more to it than that. like you said in the video, the design possibly has influence from flamenco/can can dancers, hence the "skirt," but i also believe that aromstisse's more mammilian lower body is possibly inspired by the owlbears from dungeons, or at least, some sort of mythological entity
all of these aspects together make a design that i find to be really interesting and unique, which is honsstly why i think aromstisse is one of my favorite pokemon to date, so removing all of these elements in order to make its design just a flamingo or a plague doctor would remove the charm that i think aromatisse has
really, all that i would do to improve the design is adjust the proportions a little and make the "skirt" look more like a skirt and less... well... like a fluffy diaper, as someone once told me
aromatisse does NOT need a complete design overhaul whatsoever, and anyone who says otherwise is either asking for a blander design, or they're just salty that we dont have an ACTUAL plague doctor pokémon
I'd add in Dragonite. From majestic to goofy. At least in Red/Blue it looks pissed off
1:42 yeah it's just the same concept but bigger 4:15 that's the problem it's too generic just a cartoon dog 8:30 I despise it's hands they are literally human hands
i already liked meowstic but after hunting a shiny one i like it even more! i can’t imagine a better evolution for wooper than quagsire either
glad someone else prefers Wooper to Quagsire. It's not that quagsire's bad, it's that wooper is so good! Granted it's one of my 3 favorite pokemon, but still. Not sure you "like (ursaluna) better than the average person" though, because I've not seen much dislike towards it.
How DARE you disrespect my boy like that. A fun little man AND a defensive powerhouse? You're out of your mind
I’ve never met someone who thinks quagsire is disappointing. He’s a goat and everyone main water type in johto next to toto and gyrados
I was really hoping for a train final evelotion for rolycoly
Edit: I didn't watch the video and I agree with everything
If I'm not mistaken, Pidgeot has a somewhat good size difference from Pidgeotto according to some of their dex entries and official pokemon data and also the tail feathers are all of the same color, but that was never translated well into ingame sprites/models, so it does look like just a longer haired version of the previous evolution stage.
For Quagsire, I think it's the exact opposite of what you said: the addition of arms, along with the loss of the gills, makes it distinct from the previous stage, but also gives it its own identity. Also, it is believable to have Quagsire learn Ice Punch, while it's still a mystery how Wooper does that, so there's also going on in favor of Quagsire :)
And for me, the reason Rhyperior is such a step down from its previous stages is because both Rhyhorn and Rhydon have the same concept, but Rhyperior goes way off that. The first stage is an animal, a rhino, with a rock-like skin that forms spikes in some places around its body, then evolution makes it bipedal, but still looking like what you would expect if a rock rhino in our world also went through the process of becoming bipedal, and in the final stage they straight out made an army soldier out of it, with plates around its body resembling assault vests and with literal cannon arms shooting rocks. It's not the idea of a pokemon inspired by a soldier that wears a vest and has a hand cannon itself that is bad, it's that they came up with this to a pokemon that already had a pretty estabilished concept going on for years that has nothing to do with the new thing.
"Number 11: Quagsire"
The attempt on my life has left me scarred and deformed
Quagsire used earthquake because you failed to recognize his awesome power and cuteness.
I won't stand for this Boltund slander! Boltty is a good boy!
DO NOT CALL BOLTUND A BOY!
@@Amelia4111 All dogs are good boys. STFU and GTFO.
This was a good video! I enjoyed listening to your explanation for why some Pokémon designs don’t work. I am not knowledgeable about the popularity of some Pokémon. Also I agree muk is extremely underwhelming. In one of the Pokémon coliseum guide books they actually mixed up grimer and muk. If that doesn’t show how underwhelming the design is I don’t know what is.
Honestly I think Muk is fine and Grimer is the bigger offender. With Muk the arms are shown to morph back into its body and the drip of slime in its mouth give it recognizable features. Grimer is kind of nothing, it’s generic to the point that when I first saw it in the anime, I didn’t believe it was a pokèmon, but rather just a nameless monster.
@@firstwaddledee9182 I can see what you mean and I can agree with you in some sense. There is not a lot of distinction between the two aside from the size. And honestly I can think of how they could make grimer any different than how it is now.
Rhyperior slander?! Unacceptable!
I personally find Beheeyem to be amazing. It’s definitely in my top 5 Pokémon of all time, but I just love the cute alien aesthetic and it’s little buttons. I don’t think it’s a step down from Elgyem, however, I will admit there’s room for it to get an even better and even more menacing evolution down the line. If so, it will go down as my favorite line in the game
