You use the white plastic spatula that come with the machine to change blades. There is a white spongey material in the handle that you stick the old blade into to remove it from the holder.
Great tip- Courtney
Ooh. I wondered what that was. I hope I didn’t remove it.
Straight to the point and informative. I like it!
Thank you. I learned things I needed to know before my ScanNCut arrive tomorrow!
You are going to have so much fun with your machine. - Courtney
Great video with good tips that helps me a lot, I would like to see more videos using vinyl especially heat transfer vinyl. Thanks Courtney keep up the great work

thanks!!! I’ve yet to get started to use my DSX225 SNC. I’ve had it a little over a year. Yep I’m a little intimidated I’m quilting & embroidering too. So many projects so little time. 😂 Thanks Courtney.
Thank you for watching Paula. - Courtney
Wonderful. Thank You soo much for these bits of info. Wish I had known about the mat- I just threw one out because I couldn’t get paper off it. Maybe could have saved it. Oh well. Thanks again

Hi Tess. I'm here if you have any questions. Dust that machine off we got some crafting to do. - Courtney
Very good information. Thank you.
Our pleasure!
So much knowledge I agree I wish someone had told me
Great info on the vinyl
Thank you! Very useful information
Glad to hear that!
Thank you very much. Great video
You are welcome! We're glad it was helpful! Please subscribe if you haven't already.
Sometimes when the blade isn’t cutting right make sure it is clean. Vinyl and other cut items like to get caught.
Great tip. - Courtney
I’m in Canada and couldn’t find Totally Awesome so I took a chance and used Spray 9 instead. It worked just as you described the Totally Awesome would. (I have another mat or I wouldn’t have done this)
Also thanks for the video it was very helpful 😊
Glad it helped!
Great video. I am a huge fan of Totally Awesome from Dollar Tree for my Cricut mats. Have been using it for years. However, when I got my SDX125 I used this on my mat and it removed all my adhesive:/
Thanks.
Love your tips do you have any tips on cutting fabric especially applique patterns with tight corners so the edges don't fray so much?
Yes I do! Use Terial Magic to harden the fabric before cutting: www.allbrands.com/products/92261-terial-magic-ta11004-16oz-fabric-stiffener-stabili
My only issue with the DX is that my mats have had very little stick power from the beginning. Except for the fabric mat; which I just noticed has a sheet on it to make it stick, which isn't what was advertised. I have the first CM and used it constantly (a lot more than my SDX230DX) and those mats are still sticky. I keep my mats cleaned, either with alcohol free wipes or Awesome yellow spray. I have to tape things down on my mats to be able to cut it. I have no problem with my mats loading like many have its just the lack of sticking power
Hi Judy. The fabric mat is usually my go to mat because it's the most sticky. I not so patiently waiting for them to come out with a 12x24 fabric mat. -Courtney
I agree with reusing the transfer tape. Would it help to store the used tape (maybe on a flat surface) in a ziplock bag? Somewhere, I picked up on a helpful tip for Solvy and Tender Touch, to keep them in a ziplock. It helps extend the life of the adhesive. Appreciate your video….it’s always good to find helpful tips in crafting.👏❤️
Can you see if you can make a nail stamping plate with your machine?
I have a question about cutting. How do you get the Scan n Cut to cut the whole stamped image instead of cutting the image into sections? Thank you.
Do you happen to know the equivalent of the 'Totally Awesome' cleaner in Australia???
The first time I used one of my mats it was stained by the fabric!
Here is a tip I have a tack on my wall were I hang all my mats
Thank you so much for this information. Vinyl was one of my questions that you’ve answered so thanks. I’m a total beginner and no idea what I’m doing or to do with this new machine 😂 If I want to make cards and other paper projects what card do I buy? Is it a special card? What tools do I need to buy or other supplies please? ❤
Hi Carol! The best way to learn is to watch as many CZcams videos as possible and use canvasworkspace.brother.com/en for ideas and inspiration! You can use most cardstock.
Hello - firstly thank you for all the hints & tips as they are appreciated. Can I ask re the Totally Awesome Cleaner - is there something else similar that I can purchase in Australia? Cheers Jan
Any cleaner or babywipes without alchohol should do.
Happy New Year. I did enjoy your tips. I always learn something from you. What I wish you would have addressed is the differences between downloaded Brother Canvas vs online Canvas.
Hi Linda! Great point! I always use the webbased version: canvasworkspace.brother.com/en
Please help I am creating plant markers with jack Daniels bottles the surface is 3” by 6 inches. I am putting lots of information on each bottle I have used Artspira and canvas workspace which is very frustrating. Yes I know there are lots of details but the text doesn’t want to edit all the time. The imaginary canvas floats around the screen. Is there a simpler way to do. All the text and different size text? I finished two and have hundreds to go.
I have a question. what is the SDX trimmer blade use for. and where would it go? IS THIS FOR A DIFFERENT MODEL?
Hi Ana! Brother makes a few different blades for the SDX model ScanNCut machines. They are all auto depth blades: The Thin Cut fabric blade (www.allbrands.com/products/90211), the Rotary Blade (www.allbrands.com/products/103725), the Vinyl Blade: (www.allbrands.com/products/98450), the and Standard Blade. I haven't heard the term "Trimmer" yet from the manufacturer, perhaps is a descriptive word from another retailer to describe the blades. Great question!
You don’t rinse the awesome off? Won’t the awesome dissolve the sticky?
As long as it does not have alcohol in the cleaner it should be fine just to wipe clean.
I must live under a rock, as I learned about this yesterday. I am a quilter and starting to Applique. I just at this time want to cut shapes out of fabric to Applique on material. My sewing center is trying to sell me the Disney one for over a Grand. What machine do I need? Which one is on your table?
Hi Terry! The biggest difference between the SDX330D and SDX325F is the included accessories in the box, and that the "D" version has Disney designs built in. We sell much more of the model SDX325F which is about 4 to 1, if that helps. Courtney is using her own older model which is no longer available, and replaced by the newer SDX330D.
I just bought the SDX325F; this video was super helpful. Thanks!
Thank you for shopping with us!
You can always buy the one without Disney preloaded and then purchase a card from Brother that has Disney designs on it later. Also, there are lots and lots of Disney-themed designs on Etsy for much, much less.
Thank you very much, bought "totally awesome" at the big A and got it delivered to Germany. It took a while but worse the money and waiting. Mats are clean now!
Where do I go to get the Brother Canvas please thank you

I just found this video and think it has a lot of great information. What do you recommend for mats that have lost all their tackiness, even after cleaning with Awesome?
You can try a high tack fabric support sheet, or to replace the mat.
Why do you suggest the cleaner from The Dollar Store? Don't just say use this...explain why you suggest it. What are the ingredients? What ingredient in the cleaner is actually doing what you imply is a good cleaning job? Why not just use non-toxic baby wipes/dog wipes? I get non-toxic dog wipes (coconut oil ingredient, no fragrances.)
Hi Creative Girl. We really like "totally awesome", but most non alcoholic cleaners will work, but we find for the price and how easy it is to find this works the best. We aren't sure why it works as well as it does from a scientific perspective, just from using it so much, and that it's just well known in the industry from many ScanNCut ambassadors and educators. I haven't tried baby wipes yet, thanks for the suggestion. Hope that helps!
I use fragrant-free, non-alcohol based baby wipes from Walmart. I *think* using the DT stuff would remove the stickiness much quicker than using a baby wipe.
My cuts seem chewed up lately...
I would try a higher quality balsa wood. - Courtney
