  • Learn how to create this gorgeous burnt wood cheeseboard using a stencil created with your Scan N Cut or Cricut cutting machine.
Written steps for this project and other projects can be found at createwithsue.com.
Products used in this tutorial are:
Vinyl - you can use any adhesive vinyl, permanent or removable that you have in stock. Color does not matter. If you are purchasing vinyl I have been loving everything that I have purchased from HTVRont. amzn.to/3OolJ2s
Wooden boards - These are available at Bunnings. The video shows on a round board however any shaped board that has not been treated with varnish or oil should be fine.
Torch Paste - There are a few brands on the market. The one in the video is this one available from Amazon (USA) amzn.to/3OolJ2s or Skatz Katz (Australia) skatkatz.com.a...
Food grade oil to finish - The tutorial uses Bondall Monocel Timber Bench Oil

I’m desperate to have a go at this! Thank you!

Wow, that is really cool. Would card stock work or would that ignite under the heat gun? I was also thinking if the wood were up to 3mm thick we could tape it to our mats. Now if there were some way to use the Draw operation with a pen that we can fill with this burn paste. That would let us skip the vinyl stage and go straight to drawing with the paste right on the wood. It would be interesting if the heat reactive gel could change color so as to allow people to have full color burnt wood creations.
Or perhaps a heat reactive gel transfer? That way you're using your cutting blades / auto blade to create the stencil from the heat reactive gel sheet. That in turn can be applied to the wood. Then pass a heat gun or blow torch over it to create that burnt wood look.

The cardstock may be ok however when you use vinyl it sticks down fairly tightly. One of the key things with spreading the paste is to ensure that it does not get under the edges of the vinyl design. With vinyl you can press down hard along the edge lines and create a form of seal to reduce the risk of the paste getting under the vinyl template.

Note, the stencil is removed prior to using the heat gun.

Is safe to do outside on a table? What precautions do we do before we start.?

Outside is a great place to do this. As there are different brands of torch paste you would be wise to check the manufacturer's precautions and follow them. For these designs, the stencil and torch paste were added inside and the heating of the torch paste was done outside where there is more airflow.
If you are at all concerned you could follow the same precautions as Resin crafters and use a mask.
