Over the past year, dozens of people have died in Cameroon fighting for the independence of an English-speaking area of the country, known as Ambazonia. Now their supporters are determined to turn their dream for independence into a reality.
Ambazonia is a merging of two Anglophone provinces of Cameroon, a ghost state that separatists have dreamt of since the unification of the country 56 years ago. The drive for independence has been fuelled by a feeling of marginalisation amongst Cameroon's Anglophone community.
French and English are both official languages in Cameroon, but Anglophones still talk about being sidelined in their own country - Paul Biya's government is dominated by Francophones. In recent months, lawyers and teachers have protested against the alleged imposition of French in courts and schools, leading to hundreds of arrests and hospitalisations.
In this exclusive report FRANCE 24 met with those affected by this growing movement - from innocent children injured in conflicts over Ambazonia, to the independence leaders taking refuge in neighbouring Nigeria.

This is only showing the horrible lasting effects of colonialism. Now people are identifying by the colonial language they speak, rather than their own ethnic or cultural identity. I am sure there are many ethnic and cultural groups in Cameroon that have been split between the two languages, why don't these people align with their own ethnicity rather than language? The language they are identifying with aren't even their native language, it is merely an imposition by colonial powers in the past. This is why many places in Africa are still suffering from conflict. Until the people can embrace their own true identities, and throw off colonial divides, conflicts such as this one in Cameroon will continue to happen.

France 24 is so biased in their report and try to downplay the struggle of Ambazonians with their repeated use of phrases like "fantasy republic", "virtual country", "exists only in the minds of...", etc. The report is poorly researched and doesn't tell the average viewer how Cameroon got to where it is now and why Anglophones want to be independent. Those are two crucial questions the reporters should have answered. The anchor keeps mispronouncing "secession" as "succession"! Crappy report

This is just the sort of thing the Commonwealth was set up to deal with. Britain should use its mechanisms to put diplomatic pressure on Cameroon (who is commonwealth thanks to these English speaking regions) to decentralise power to avoid seccession. UK wont support the break up of the country, only federalism.

    Darkness Has Never Reign Forever.
West Cameroon, The Southern Cameroons/Ambazonia Has Come To Stay Like Every Other Nation Under Heaven Regardless Of All Stumbling Blocks.
It Doesn't Matter How Much Whimsical, Manipulators Work Hard On Or Under The Table, The Federal Republic Of Ambazonia Can Never Be Subdued Again By Whosoever.
Those Who Call Us Separatists Etc, Are Ignorant And Dishonest Because Every Journalist Ought To Seek And Know The Truth Before Broadcasting In Other Not To Mislead The World As A Whole.
If It Was Possible, Some News Agencies Ought To Be Banned.

Lies telling journalists ridicule journalism: When you say such a blatant lie that Paul Biya has been opened to dialogue, when you call Southern Cameroons as separatists/virtual country, it is very stupid. Stupid because facts can never be twisted - an you lady, present an iota of evidence that Biya is opened to dialogue? Do you portray ignorance that Southern Cameroons was once an independent country recognised by the UN and the international community? If once independent and later joined la republique du cameroun, can we be talking of restoration of the once existed independent southern cameroons or seccessation? It is an insult to call Southern Cameroons alias Ambazonia separatists except we chose to forgive your ignorance. A reputable journalist researches prior publication. Imperialism complex is what I guess is derailing you lady.
