So one thing I noticed, while it is very common to randomly greet strangers eachother in e.g. European countries, I noticed during my stay here in India that it IS DEFINETLY not common there. It took me some time aswell.

Haven't you been to eastern states like Odisha, Andhrapradesh , Tamilnadu etc?

Davud the reason why some people don't respond when you say namaste is because namaste is hindi. Amritsar is a predominantly punjabi region and we say sat sri akal (pronounce sas-ri-akal).

Hi Davud, welcome back to Amritsar. You should greet ppl in Amritsar saying “ Sat Siri akal “ you felt ppl not responding to “ Nameste” . That is a greeting in rest of India for Hindus . Sat Siri akal is for Sikhs . That shopkeeper selling women stuff ( you asking salesgirls are his wife ? He corrected you but you didn’t understand.

Such a busy street and the noise is terrible. Yeah, they should only allow pedestrians and shoppers to go thru these streets, but I guess motorbikes and Tuk Tuks have no choice but to use the same streets to go about their daily chores or transporting people here and there. The people of Amritsar are really kind and humble.
Especially the ones who are wearing Turbans.
If you are still here someday come to the University also.
It's a really beautiful place,and there are many students from Iran,Tajikistan and many other countries.
Your name is Persian so you must know the language also.
There are many Persian speakers as well.

The temple you were around was Saheeda Sahib Gurdwara and they provide clothes for covering your head in every gurdwara (sikh temple) so u don't have to tie turban to go to the gurdwara.

In Punjab the language spoken is Punjabi so the hindi language greeting word " Namaste" is not used commonly here, so you are not getting response.
Try greeting people by saying ".Sat Sri Akal " You ll get response. From most of people in India.

People are not responding you when you say Namaste to them... Because Amritsar is a Sikh community dominating area. They use Sat Shri Akaal in place of Namaste. So next when you say.... Sat Shri Akaal, they'll definitely respond you for sure. And if you are roaming in Hindu dominating area then you can say Namaste 🙏🇮🇳

Went to delhi , india in 80s during indira gandhis time as a kid from pak with my family. Had lunch with mr love kumar n his family in his flat..stayed in ranjit hotel , not sure if its still there..remember drinking limca, ambassador car, taj mahal. Still remember we gave 20 rs to a police officer who came to register us n he was delighted.
