Ants are a popular food source for trout, especially in the summer and fall. Ant patterns can be very effective fished on the surface and under the surface. Ants drown quickly so sunken ants can be particularly effective.
Ants are most active in the middle of the day and can be productive year-round, but are especially effective in the summer and late summer into early fall. They can also be more effective after it rains, as long as the water isn't too stained.
Fish this sunken ant as part of nymph rig or as the point fly on a dry/dropper rig.
