    We were raised on Kraft Dinner as kids. There were 3 of us. My mom would make 2 boxes. She would add chopped up weiners to it. We loved it. No ketchup for me, but alot of people did. A box was about 25 cents. When I had my own child, we would share a box. A box was about 50 cents by then. I would buy a case of 12 boxes for about $5 and a package of weiners for $1.50. This would feed us many lunches, for a long time for cheap. University students eat this as a staple. I am now almost 60 years old, and still love it.

    I think everyone has their own special way of making Kraft Mac and Cheese. I usually use less butter and just a splash of milk, because I feel like the milk dilutes the flavor of the cheese sauce. I will also add in a cup or so of shredded sharp cheddar cheese (which I think is closest to your Red Leicester cheese).

    I grew up eating that and even though it's cheap and not the best version of mac n cheese, I still love it. I do make a really great homemade one that finishes in the oven but when nostalgia hits and I'm hungry and want something really quick I will make it. I know all the Italian cooks on here have a stroke over it, but they love what they grew up eating and so do I. Even if it's not the best version of what it could be. This brand came out back in 1937 during the great depression and sold for $0.19 US (0.19p UK) so it helped feed lots of families for little money.

    A lot of people dice up hot dogs or sausages into pieces, big enough or small enough so that it doesn't choke your kids, but they stick it in there and the hot dogs plus the cheesiness the savory of the meat, and the creamiest and the sweetness of the noodles really comes together well. If you have hot dogs I suggest you add them to the macaroni and cheese.

    Box mac n cheese tips: 1. put a little salt in the water for better flavor in the noodles 2. melt the butter in the noodles, then add milk, and mix with noodles, this picks up the starch, then add the cheese mix, and it will mix in much faster and easier. 3. variations: A. add black pepper B. add browned minced beef and onions (I might put ketchup on this version, but no other) C. add condensed cream of mushroom soup and a tin of tuna, this option you may want to heat a bit more.

    I just subscribed to your channel! I love your reactions to our foods from across the pond! I'm from Pennsylvania on the East Coast. My father grew up in Philadelphia, and my mom is from Massachusetts in New England. This was my childhood growing up I used to eat this in a box and sometimes I would help my mom make this during my early childhood. It tasted really good when I was little but over time they put chemicals in it so we don't eat this anymore, we usually try organic macaroni and cheese like Blake's and theirs is like a baked macaroni and cheese it's really good with bread crumbs on top! It's good to see a brother and sister from England who likes our food and culture. I love your food that you have in England as well. I have British friends, many of them who are musicians from the '60s who actually moved to The States from England and they love it here! They really like our food as well! The next time I see a few of them I'm going to ask them what was their first American food that they ever ate when they came over here in the '60s! Even though I was born and raised here in Pennsylvania, and even though I like some of our culture I also like some of the stuff from your culture. I've eaten British food over here, but not over there. My mom went to England a couple times and she said the fish and chips over there melt in your mouth! I hope one day in the future I can come over there and try some for myself! I also like some of your British literature including Jane Austen, Shakespeare, etc .and some music as well including the Beatles who came all the way from over there to over here! So I guess you could say I'm an American girl who loves the British!

    You can get Kraft mac n cheese in the UK, its called Cheesey pasta, Mondelez formerly Kraft UK had to drop the Kraft name, its in a yellow and red box. Its the same recipe only made with natural colours instead of Tartrazine, its £1.20 in Asda and its very popular in Scotland, dont waste money on the imported thing. Also Cheesey Pasta the UK version is free from GM ingredients.

    My sister and I always add some salt, pepper, and bacon bits to our Mac n cheese! Now that you mentioned Crispy Onions man I will have to add that and give it a try.

    We love Kraft Mac & Cheese and have gotten used to it so much so at my house we prefer it to homemade. i add extra butter and extra milk, I like mine a little soupier and less creamy, I also douse it in black pepper. My daughter adds sprinkled parmesan cheese over top and my husband loves it with hotdogs cut up in it. No ketchup on my mac & cheese, but I always dips my grilled cheese sandwiches in ketchup, yum. Thanks for sharing your tasting with us.

    Cheap version of beef stroganoff.
    Mac and cheese, ground beef and cream of mushroom soup top with a dallop of sour cream. Had this a lot as a kid.

    Omg, so there actually is a Cheetos collab with Kraft Mac n cheese now! Cooking Kraft Mac n Cheese was the first thing I ever learned how to cook on my own as a child. Lol like probably age 10 or 11. Maybe younger. But my parents always kept it in the house if my brother, sister of I neeed a quick meal. :) glad you enjoyed!

    Yes, I add ketchup to my Mac&Cheese. I always serve it with some frozen veggies, sometime I mix them in. In Canada we have a white-cheese version of Mac&Cheese, which is more popular than the orange Kraft Dinner.

    I learned abou Mac N Cheese during my Au pair time in America 7 years ago. I used to buy this for me and the kids and I loved it. Some monzhs ago I went to the Marican store in the city where I live and found Kraft Mac N Cheese. Of course I had to buy one box.

    Kraft macaroni can be really good if jazzed up a little. I use butter, coat the noodles in either sour cream or cream cheese which ever i have on hand and use heavy cream instead of milk. Or double cream i think is what you call it. Of course salt and pepper. Its so creamy and flavorful. Give it a try !!!!

    We try to always keep a couple boxes in the pantry for quick lunches. My daughters also like the microwaveable cups.

  • @vanessakrascsenics5199

    When I was growing my dad would make this a lot for dinner because my mom would work evenings. He would always add hot dogs or corned beef in a can and onion, which I believe is like Spam?
    I love mine with a ton of crushed pepper, and KETCHUP is a must!!

    Like ramen it’s a bit versatile, if you’re out of milk you can put more butter, put in some garlic powder, sometimes if you want it to be a bit heartier throw in some packaged tuna “Tuna-Mac,” Steam some broccoli and throw it in with it… spot on at adding extra or different cheeses!

    We were a family of 5. My mom would serve it as a side dish on her easy/lazy cooking day. Usually with fish sticks and peas. The Kraft white cheddar is really good. My mom would sometimes mix in tuna. Or sliced hot dogs. My kids like it with a can of chili mixed in.

    In addition to the suggestions that some commenters have made about less milk and more cheese, instead of hot dogs, I like to add ground beef (you'd call it beef mince). It's basically "cheeseburger mac".

  • @paulandelisharedpath8071

    My dad always made Mac and cheese with out the butter and milk but with a can of cream of mushroom soup , a can of tuna, and frozen peas for a tuna casserole type thing. Plus it made it full meal.

    My mother had a variation on boxed mac and cheese which turned it into a combination of mac and cheese and green bean casserole. She grew up during the heyday of Campbell's condensed soup so she uses it a lot. She basically mixed a box of mac and cheese with a couple cans of green beans, cream of mushroom soup, and of course French's fried onions. I haven't had it for years now but I expect I would still enjoy it for nostalgia reasons. Now that I think of it, I think this meal was probably one of the few vegetarian meals that we had when I was growing up.

  • @anothercheryladventure9387

    I grew up in the US with Kraft Mac and cheese 🧀. My mom gave us tuna out of a can with it. I started to mix it together. Now we have Velveeta Shells and Cheese. The cheese in that tastes so much cheesier better, it’s more expensive but just as easy as Kraft to make they give u the sauce in a can. It’s not powder. U have to try it.😃💜❤️💜👍

    I ate Kraft dinner{KD} growing up in the 60's as it was cheap and easy to make for lunch, I have 5 brothers. I never fed my kids or dog KD; I always made my own macaroni and cheese with a mix of medium and aged cheddar. We had a black lab when my kids were young and she would pout if she did not get her share of homemade mac & cheese. Now I make mine with a mix of goat and or sheep milk cheese with rice or spelt pasta.

  • @sadiekincaid5310
    @sadiekincaid5310 Před 2 lety

    We always made it with adding some sour cream and a can of cream of mushroom soup as well as adding half the amount of milk and all of the amount the butter it says on the box. Sometimes we put mustard in the macaroni and cheese and it helps bring out the flavor more. One way to make it is before you add the noodles back to the pan is to mix the milk, butter, and cheese sauce mix and mix that before you put the noodles in. With macaroni and cheese you can add anything to it that you like and you won't go wrong most of the time.

  • @amja210
    @amja210 Před 2 lety

    You can add almost anything you can think of. It is a good base for a casserole. Try adding frozen peas, leafy greens, and a meat like hot dogs, hamburger, tuna, chicken, cubed ham, or whatever meat you like. I suggest that you add small amounts of butter and milk extra to your taste and for moisture as you add items. ✝️🐸💙

    A staple hear in Canada but boxes are a little different. KD (Kraft Dinner)use to be same box as states.Growing up we used it as a starter for Golosh, Kraft dinner,ground beef ,onion and tomatoe juice.But when I make it now usually switch tomoto with v8 juice.Actually a bunch of different ones now even the Alfredo which is one of my favorites.Comes in 12 pack boxes here.
