    Hey! This is a TAS of the any% category of MGTT played on NTSC-J. TAS timing starts on power on and ends on the final input and does not account for any lag or loading times. The RTA WR (NTSC-J) is 52:47.602 by me as of Dec. 2018, which compares to this TAS being a 39:14.590 when measuring it as if it were an RTA run.
    If you have any questions not addressed in the video or want further clarification on a topic, feel free to ask me! :D

    Very creative optimizations and informative commentary! I'm glad a definitive tas of this game finally exists

    New info discovered since this TAS: @ 13:13, I explain a "variable lag" that happens before the celebration animation (i.e. bowser starting to rawr). We now know that without a sped up chase cam, this variable lag is directly tied to the amount of time the ball spends rolling around inside the cup after it goes in. It has to come to a dead stop in the cup before the screen advances to the celebration. This may contribute to 30-60s of timesave overall in this TAS with more optimal dunk shots that hit the pin directly and stop spinning in the cup quickly. Adding topspin or backspin to these shots has no effect once the ball goes into the hole.

      indeed :) I tried to incorporate a few ideas like that in here (shroom bounces and Badlands 18) but there is definitely a lot more potential!

    You got more albatrosses and holes in one in one game than I ever have in my entire history of playing the Mario Golf series, going back to the Game Boy Color game. D:
    Thanks to you, I've now learned what rain actually does in this game (although I'd suspected it messed up the greens somehow for years).

    • @Bluekandy
      @Bluekandy  Před 4 lety +1

      That would be a great project, but requiring a different emulator (shouldn't be too bad to learn, as long as it worked properly. There are always some quirks). But I know people in the Advance Tour community who know far more about their game than I do, and I would wish they make it! If you're interested, people do speedrun that game. The link to the discord should be on its speedrun.com page, or you can join the Toadstool Tour discord and contact Mattsachusetts

    You said you started limping out of bunkers on the fourth course, fifth hole. Did you not think of that beforehand or was it just not relevant yet?

    • @Bluekandy
      @Bluekandy  Před rokem

      Mostly irrelevant before that point. Blooper's bunkers are useful for being more flat, easier to roll out of. The first hole of blooper would be a good place for it, but the best drive needed to be long so as not to repeat the animation. Thinking back to earlier courses, perhaps this could be useful on Lakitu 6 and 11, Cheep 16, and I can't really think of a place in Sands, ironically enough

  • @michaelfradley6950

    What was the thought given to making the character lefty? Never seemed like a plan?

    • @Bluekandy
      @Bluekandy  Před rokem

      Lefty was never really necessary to avoid an object or save a stroke. I've been playing this game forever, so if there were a place where the mirrored curve would do it, then I would use lefty. In fact it's righty that saves the stroke on Badlands 1 being able to ace, and more than likely on PCG 2 as well with the necessary angle of attack on the mushroom

    • @Bluekandy
      @Bluekandy  Před rokem

      Part of the reason for this is that maximizing distance is usually the best way to save strokes, and this is done by straightening the shot out with the impact point almost always

  • @MasterYoshidino
    @MasterYoshidino Před 4 lety

    If spins affect rolls why do them on dunks? Would the game lag less with plain dunks? Have to ask because the video never brings this up.

    • @Bluekandy
      @Bluekandy  Před 4 lety

      They don't change a dunk, actually. "Roll" is a golf term that insinuates everything immediately after the first time the ball touches the ground. In this case, the first time it touches the ground is inside the cup, so spin doesn't change anything. If played back on console, any character with a sfx shot that is resource-heavy (like Bowser's flame) will lag more, but spins typically aren't particle-heavy enough to do the same.

  •  Před 4 lety +1

    I like the players choice from 2004.

  • @raydarable
    @raydarable Před 3 lety

    What's the best possible score for each course?

    • @Bluekandy
      @Bluekandy  Před 3 lety

      Depends on the character. Some characters can just barely make shots that others cannot under the right conditions. Without GBA characters/clubs, you should be able to make all the shots that I did with Star Bowser here, just assume each skipped hole would be done as an ace for par 3 or in two shots for par 4/5 (I skipped long par 4s, so no ace chance on those).

    • @raydarable
      @raydarable Před 3 lety

      @@Bluekandy Thank you, Can all courses be beaten in under three strokes?

    • @Bluekandy
      @Bluekandy  Před 3 lety +1

      @@raydarableAll holes on all courses can be done in at least 2 shots yes. The longest hole is Badlands 16, which you see Star Bowser getting an Albatross here.
      The star tournaments are a different ballgame, but I think it should be possible still. Only a few holes may be tough to try out, but the benefit is that we can always manipulate 20mph tailwind to help out there.

      pinned message on that video - 4P TAS is not fun at all, I want to enjoy my work not trudge through it

  • @kittenmagician7416
    @kittenmagician7416 Před 5 lety

    The content is interesting but holy smokes I wanted to blast my brains out after three minutes of listening to your voice. It's a really neat TAS, but seriously take some vocal lessons if you wanna give commentary

    • @Bluekandy
      @Bluekandy  Před 5 lety +7

      There's always the option of becoming a decent community member over time too if you enjoy the content, since my stream consists of a less intense focus on vocals. While doing so, you could either contribute directly to an upgraded mic, encourage me to look for a better one, or even give simple tips that would help relieve the pressure your ears just experienced. Well before you commented today I was setting up voicemeeter banana to aid in this category. There are other solutions than giving none to the person's content you enjoyed otherwise.

    • @Bluekandy
      @Bluekandy  Před 5 lety +8

      Furthermore, just as an added point about your own behavior - reading the pinned comment would alert you to the fact that this TAS is not great and can be improved greatly upon due to that discovery. Thus, it would take a lot more effort now to create a new TAS, in which better commentary would be suitable. It's comments like yours that detract from motivation to progress this kind of work, because they offer literally no insight and nothing of use. Please, take a moment to see that, for the sake of any videos you decide to ruin the integrity of for whatever poor soul heeds your empty words

    • @kittenmagician7416
      @kittenmagician7416 Před 5 lety

      Bluekandy a new mic isn't going to help. But I guess thanks for letting me know that the TAS isn't a good one?

    • @Bluekandy
      @Bluekandy  Před 5 lety +8

      @@kittenmagician7416 You're welcome! It's always good for people to think like the TASer themselves, because then you can be much more attuned to areas of improvement possible (and/or potential ideas that could be improvements) that would be actually helpful to the creator. This is what I hope you will do in the future, because constructive criticism is so much more favorable, useful and reflective of you than snotty comments.
