TAS Timing starts from boot-up and ends on the A input that takes you back to the main menu after unlocking Star Bowser.
RTA timing begins when Start is pressed on the Title Screen
Sorry for the unreasonable delay on this project's release :( I was originally going to do a commentary for this TAS, but the audio recording process is something I am very bad at, as well as speaking in general. So I didn't want to make things more awkward to watch by adding some dumb guy talking over a 77 minute video ;)
HOWEVER as a compromise I have created a PASTEBIN which can be referred to for practically everything there is to know about this TAS. If for some reason I miss an explanation or something I didn't consider peaks your interest, please COMMENT and I will add it to the pastebin.

Also apologies for the lower-than-average quality that TAS movies are usually uploaded in. The version of dolphin I used is not compatible with dumping frames. So I recorded this in OBS with lower settings that wouldn't make the playback lag as much. This game is unfortunately very resource heavy and movies can only be played back in Single Core, which makes them prone to framerate drops and lag spikes. This is the biggest reason why TAS timing and RTA timing vary by so much. But hopefully it doesn't subtract from the project as a whole.

Tas preaches getting a good nights sleep before every record he is trying to break, you can tell by how many great times he has gotten throughout the years. Definitely top 3 greatest speed runners across all games.
Can’t, bet he’s busy gaming at every moment of his life. How else can he disregard his health with no side effects & play every single game ever perfectly?
My favorite part was when Bowser would shout, "go!" Really helps you understand the speedrunner mind.
If I was Bowser, I would be impatient with everyone else too ;)

This is such an underappreciated game
I like how you sometimes under-hit your drive so your opponent hits farther than you and you get to go earlier and clear the hole.

1:13:40 is the best part, it sums up the feeling you get seeing a dude H.I.O a par 4.
Almost 3 years later and I have to wonder. How long would a 100% tas be? All ring attacks, all Tournaments, all Star Tournaments, 18 hole birdie challenge. All that stuff. Now THAT would be a fun watch. The more Toadstool Tour the better
I would estimate:
85-90 minutes all tournaments and star tournaments (includes 216 birdie badges)
+90-100 minutes for all ring attack modes
+73 minutes for character matches
+20 minutes for all side games
= ~4 hour 30 - 4 hour 40 min
Traditional "100%" category on speedrun.com would be sub 3 hours.

@@silverwolfgamer4100 "Max%" its a bit wonky but that's just how the naming went. Probably because 100% sounds more appealing to the more popular category, whereas max% only has 1 submitted run lol

How the hell are you getting those hole-in-one’s and albatrosses so effortlessly?
I used emulator tools to help make every shot precisely. I can rewind and advance 1 frame at a time over and over until I get the shots I want.

Max% may slowly be realized over the next 50 or so years haha. Someone with more talent than me can stitch it all together. Unfortunately I don’t have much experience with advance tour, but I share your sentiment :)

Lol was this Mario Golf or Pangya? I didn't know you could shoot directly into the hole. I remember in my teen years with a notebook in hand trying to understand the winds and ball lie. This game is still far superior than the shovelware we got last year.

Not sure what you mean by flat ball lie. Hitting in bunkers is very quick for the TAS route anyways. No time wasted from the ball bouncing
@@spyfox260 Ball lie is the tilted angles you see on your ball graphic that manipulates its trajectory. If you're on a hill going

So as someone who played this game way too much when it came out(I should mention I 100% completed it), why does the TAS super backspin in situations where you wanna get as close as possible to the pin?
Generally speaking I used super backspin in spots where I could get the ball to stop even quicker than if I were to use any other spin, most notably hole 8 with star Waluigi. On most surfaces, topspin will give a lower bounce that stops very quickly after rolling out, but if I can get the ball to bounce on a downslope that curves into a flat area, then backspin will stop even faster than a topspin shot. Hope that answers your question.
