it depends on the band you choose. with some bands the algorithm is ruthless. in case of tool everything is more free. recording every instrument helps a lot, but sometimes is not enough. my cover of tom sawyer was completely different from the original and I recorded every instrument, but youtube recognized the song the same
This is a pretty good cover, but there is a lot of "subtlety" in the vocals by Maynard that make a big difference IMHO (maybe because I am listening to the song on loop these days). The ups and downs in his vocals - which you might know where you have skipped - add a LOT more feel of this song. Some notes (syllables) haven't been perfectly done too. Also, sorry to pick on you, but "I'll keep digging" is sung after the beat, unlike "I feel something" which is on beat. Maybe you didn't want to spend much time on this (i know it happens), but if you do I am confident you can do this twice as good ! Well done otherwise ! :) Now I hope people don't thrash me here... *disappear*
