Haywire you will have to let us know how that turbo head compares to regular 454 head. I am in the process of rebuilding my first 454 right now I got a bad rear bearing out of the box.
That engine has so much more high end power. I think it’s a combination of the sealed backplate and turbo plug. I regret not leaning it out and getting it’s true power. Next time I’ll take it on the streets and lean it out and see what speeds I can get. The spektrum transmitter has a speedometer and I’ll track top speeds and also track rpm also.
@haywirerc that's funny you stay you back plate was leaking. After tearing mine down, I honestly don't know how it even ran the o ring on the back plate was basically gone, and the front bearing was starting it leak too. I ended up finding a stock rod and o ring kit and just used the sh piston and sleeve. I've been looking for a turbo head but haven't found a thing. I'd also like to find an extra cooling head, but again, I don't think it will ever happen.
@@joshherrman3201 I’m also on the lookout for a turbo head. The buggy 454 has so much compression tho the pinch on the sleeve is equal to the pinch on the LST. Turbo plugs are definitely the way to go. Good luck on the engine build. The front bearings I’ve heard are supposed to leak and they don’t have an air tight seal. The sealed bearing is only to keep dirt out. Only time it’s bad is when there are visible tears. When I replaced my front bearing, which leaked slightly, I swapped it out with a dual sealed bearing for extra protection. Turns out the engine never had an air leak with leaky front bearing and the two stage idle was from my bad gas tank. Obviously I cannot find a good gas tank anywhere as they are just as rare as turbo heads. Any LST tank will do gas or nitro. Woogie has a gas fuel tank and swapped the gas lines out to run nitro.
@haywirerc keep your eye out for a tank. I've picked up 2 so far. The last one I paid about 50 bucks for it. That stuff always pops up when money is tight, it seems like. Ebay has had a ton of hard to find stuff lately.
That’s a really nice pipe sounds very good 👍🏻. Your LST fuel tank have you checked the screw is tight on the inside of the fuel cap lid I noticed mine wasn’t making a good seal so went ahead and tightened up it was only loose also you will know this but I’ll mention it anyway the primer’s on these tanks either sticks down halfway or don’t work at all 😂 mine if you use it sticks half way so you have to pull it back up not run mine yet almost there just testing some stuff out like radio gear and that waiting for a new rx battery pack to arrive in the post anyway all the very best for the new year have a good one
My screw is tight. I swapped it out for stainless as the first time i checked it was completely rusted and I striped it immediately. Only issue that happens once in a while is the plastic that clamps the o ring in place gets warped and bows over time. I just flip it every time it starts to bow to keep it flat. I can bet you that it’s the primer. I hate those and wish Losi made a tank without one. I wanna keep original tank but may have to resort to losi 8ight T tank which bolts in by moving one of the tank mounts.
I saw the tank! I’m gonna try and put some silicone in the primer bulb and see if it seals. If it doesn’t I’ll hopefully get a new tank. I hate to not use my tank as it’s very clean and barely scratched like the others.
Old engine needed rebuild. Seized rear bearing and low pinch. I still have the old engine and will put it back in if we have another toy to put the 454 in.
