    Given how good of a side they were, and considering the unbelievable record of English clubs in Europe at the time, I've no doubt Everton would've gone on to have won at least one European cup during that mid to late 80s era but for that unjust ban. They're a criminally underrated team when you talk about the best club sides this country has ever produced.

    Back in the good old days when Everton were top dogs rather than the perennial strugglers of today. Great to hear Peter Brackley commentating too he was one of my faves.

    top week of the season back to back Everton wins at Anfield with the goal of the season and against Man Utd 5-0 at Goodison. Evertonian realised they had a team to win the title. It is not here.... Quite an overlooked miss, followed by the 2 wins in three days v Spurs and Sunderland when the League was decided. Also missed. Or were they aired on the other channel?

      Liverpool game I believe was on highlights BBC , but full match of that is on Everton CZcams site BBC version aswell, Manchester United game not on tv at all apart from clips here n there, Sunderland game was on BBC highlights, this is itv goals only, but that Sunderland match is available full 90 mins on Everton yt channel with there own camera on the other stand , I believe the Manchester united game is also along those lines full 90, but has not been put out YET? future maybe, there is the Sunderland game on classic footbal matches l channel on yt extended version 50 minutes long of BBC highlights, Tottenham away game was evening ,they were not alowed highlights on evening league matches in the contract, this changed Jan 86 onwards, but there is about 5 mins of footage of that game on yt out there , Great season for Everton great support

      +Soud Alaqeel There are less games than other seasons (Up to 4 each week until 1983, now only 1-2 games). The 1985-86 will be also of that range, because a long blackout during 1985.

    This season was crammed full of Highlights n live games both ITV n BBC no gaps or strikes like season before or after, Jan 86 onwards decent both channels but after Mexico 86 football Highlights on tv 86 87. were sporadic and bizarre till 92 93 BBC came back , had some formula, there were games shown abroad not here or on screen sport or in London only, or Granada or Yorkshire, Tyne Tees if ya lived in TVS land shocking bits here n there ya could try n get LWT or Thames with poor quality on Ariel , don't know where Match of the day we're apart some live games n fa cup games , Sports night was decent 87 ish very little Saturday night, so yes 84 85 last real consistent full season of Highlights on both channels Networked ya could see

    • @jetjunkjiver8194
      @jetjunkjiver8194 Před rokem +1

      Yep, no regular Saturday night football highlights from 85-92. I suspect football falling out of favour somewhat and the euro club ban meant neither BBC/ITV saw much merit in weekend highlights 86-88. When ITV had exclusive Football League rights 88-92 they simply couldn’t be arsed with networked weekend highlights and concentrated on live games instead. Like you say if you lived in a football heavy ITV region then you were a bit more lucky. ITV missed a trick not doing a Saturday night ‘The Big Match’ 88-92 IMO.

      Beryl Inwood unfortunately today’s football is crap and will never go back to be a sport I can watch until they stop making it just about money. Idiots on £500,000 a week, tackling banned, mortgage and degree to get a ticket and a total lack of atmosphere. I’m better off out of it.

    Don't let wankers who probably never even went back then tell you it was really dangerous. It was if you were mobbed up and looking for it but I was taken as a kid from 1980 to Maine Rd and never got touched! Watched loads of scrapping though! Better than the footy most of the times! Hot dogs, onions, beer and piss was the Saturday smell! Nowadays its probably a veganburger washed down with a chilled rose. Why did we let the middle class wankers and money men steal our game? Give me City in the 2nd in 1984 over all this recent success.

      Completely agree with you. I'm a Chelsea fan and enjoyed those days far more than I do now. The atmospheres were fantastic. Most games I could just rock up and pay on the day, cheap as chips too. I could afford to go from my paper-round money. Need a 2nd mortgage to go now and the atmospheres are nowhere near as good. So glad I was fortunate enough to go back in the day. I live overseas now, but don't feel I'm missing out on too much.
