    This video is frustrating. On one side, we have a great product that seems fun, built with a lot of thought and engineering. I'd probably take it everywhere with all that range and power it has.
    On the other side, we have greedy businessmen that introduced "features" that brick your device if you unplug the battery. In a product that only has a 6 months warranty and that you have to ship back to USA if anything wrong happens. And all, under the "it's for your safety" excuse.
    I really was excited to get this one. Not anymore.

      While I do agree with right to repair initiatives, it is worth clarifying that the board only bricks if you unplug the battery from the BMS (battery management system) and is able to be unplugged from the main controller. In theory if you needed a new battery unit, future motion could provide just that part without you having to send in the whole board.

  • @AustenHartley
    @AustenHartley  Před 2 lety +61

    Ghosting Update - Future Motion got back to me and are sending me a new front footpad. I asked specifically if it was hardware or firmware and here's what they said "your reported problem is not a software issue, it is likely related to the footpad itself". So hopefully for anyone that got the first batch of boards, if they have any ghosting issues they should get a new footpad and problem solved. Will test out the new footpad and put a little follow up to see if it solved the issue !
    Thanks everyone for watching - hope this video helps 🤙.

    • @jinkiescoob
      @jinkiescoob Před 2 lety +6

      That’s a HUGE safety issue-not knowing if the board will just randomly go rogue, keeping going down the street without you on it and plow into a crowd of kids at 30mph. Man they better address that SERIOUSLY!

    • @Bositive_
      @Bositive_ Před 2 lety +7

      "I asked specifically if it was hardware or firmware and here's what they said, "your reported problem is not a software issue, it is likely related to the footpad itself".
      they did this purposely, they said it was the footpad but it's not, its them not taking responsibility for a mass recall. also, if you change the battery with another One-wheel brand new it bricks the board itself- it's basically a company who is "anti-right to repair" you don't own you're one wheel even after buying it.

    Thank you for the suprise ride. Coming from +18,000 kms now with 2 cbxrs, I couldn't agree more. The magic of the board is that it makes you forget where it came from (until repair time, but that's another issue). Feels very familiar, has so much promise and is Indeed confidence inspiring... Can be dangerous if you step back onto any other stock FM boards. Rider skill is required much later/faster so that's a double edged sword in my opinion ;) Catch you on the trails so we can see how it truly shines 🤙

      @As the World Burns because they will not support the repair community. Essentially doing anything other than aesthetics to the board will void the warranty and they also monopolize the availability of oem parts.

    • @anthonytran3584
      @anthonytran3584 Před 2 lety

      @As the World Burns the other aspect is that they will not support the board at all after the so called warranty sticker have been broken. Even to change a tire. On the GT as soon as you disconnect the connector from BMS to controller the board is designed to create an error and you have no choice but to pay them to correct it IF they even will.

  • @SirWrender
    @SirWrender Před 2 lety +66

    Great review! And good video! I'm also concerned about the ghosting issue. I've had it happen in the past on older boards and it's the most terrifying thing. Riding demands trust in the board and when that trust is shaky, then honestly the ride sucks. That being said... I can't wait to get mine! SO excited for it!

      You're going to love the extra torque on the board. the normal nose dips when riding/carving at speed and hitting bumps is corrected super quick with the new tune...that sidewall is noticeable though. good thing TFL has a new tire coming soon.

      @AustenHartley  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks SirWrender ! I agree, confidence in the board is super important ! I'm thinking the new footpad will fix the issue and I assume all of the units they're currently sending out already have the fixed footpad version in them.

      @sirwrender Please try to reach out to future motion against the new security of the GT. Starting with the GT onewheels are slowly becoming like Iphones in the fact that if you so much as unplug the battery the whole board will be bricked. You have a big enough onewheel following on corridor crew that I think FM might listen to you.

    • @dustinfocus
      @dustinfocus Před 2 lety +2

      a ghosting board is the most dangerous. All it takes is one loose board to run into the road and cause a car crash that terminally hurts someone.
      Whose liability is that - mine, or future motion's?
      And then it's a lawsuit and then it's a lock down on all motorized board riders.

      @Rinssi_from_Finland Před 2 lety +6

      @Matthew Hayslett kinda. The thing with modding and repairing yourself is that on company perspective if anything goes wrong they get the blame. Some people know what they are doing - some dont and do anyways. Some use quality parts - some save a buck and buy from Wish or something. I know this is what companies use as an excuse to hinder repairs but it kinda hard balance. Also legislation differs by countries so somewhere it might be easier to offer self repair than elsewhere.

    • @firaphex2824
      @firaphex2824 Před 2 lety +6

      @@Rinssi_from_Finland It's not a hard balance at all. There are thousands of ways to hurt yourself in everyday life, yet nobody blames the companies making nails if somebody decides to eat them or the people making skateboards when somebody fails a jump. If they want to protect themselves all that is needed is a clear warning saying "You being stupid is not our fault". There will always be the occational nutjob that will blame them for something but that will always happen, no matter what the 'balance' is so that never changes.
      The only reason for hinder/stop repairs is money. Future Motion want's more of it and the easiest way to get it was to be as hostile to their consumers as they could possibly get away with, plain and simple.

    The ghosting is definitely a huge issue. I actually got hurt because it went backwards after getting off, forcing me into doing the splits and partially tearing my lateral knee ligament. I contacted Future-motion, and they call it a “sticky pad”. I just got it back, but I’m still too insured to ride it. I have to admit, I’m not sure if they truly have a fix for it and if my board is now actually fixed. It will be serval month, before I can ride it again. I have had my pint for several years and was very happy with it. The GT sounded like the perfect upgrade, but if that problem is not fixed, that makes this board extremely dangerous to ride!

I'm very interested as to why. I had solidly chosen to go with the slick tire for the quiet ride as I saw a video where someone "upgraded" to a treaded tire on the older model. It was pretty noisy. I'd love to hear yours' and other's thoughts on treaded versus slick tires. Thank you again for a great review.

    Still waiting for my GT, but I PREFER a much stronger pushback in theory. The XR was way too subtle. I specifically ordered a GT for more torque for more safety and confidence.
    If they updated the pushback at all, I would only want them to do it as a customizable limited threshold on the app, so that way the default is to have it all the way up and those wanting to be more daring can tweak it a little down within reason.
    But honestly, I personally can’t take “more noticeable pushback” as a good complaint in my book, especially since it’s already happening LATER than the XR, which is great to know it has the power to do so.
    It’s a safety precaution based on available power, not an arbitrary “no fun allowed” rule.
    It’s possible it’s set to be a little reserved, but it’s there for good reasons.
    And the thing is, they didn’t remove the ability to push through pushback, it’s just harder to do than the XR apparently, so people can still do that if they choose. And the Onewheel I don’t personally feel is designed to even be a speed machine in the first place.
    I dunno, that’s my 2 cents.

    • @Tangeffect
      @Tangeffect Před 2 lety

      I think the push back is more to try and protect the company then it is to protect people. You never know what it will take for someone to sue them. Otherwise they would've heard that same complaint, because EVERYONE said the same about it. They could've allowed for more, but keeping it at 20 mph is definitely something I'm sure they thought long and hard about. I guess that people could sign a waiver if they want to be able to adjust the push back though.

      I have a pint x as my first onewheel and I did it because of the subtle pushback of the XR and the high likelihood of failure to recognize and respect it. I have zero desire to join the nosedive crew. You have to view pushback, on the device, as the HR department of a company… It is there to assist you while protecting the asset. I was slightly startled with the pushback on the pint x, but there is no confusion on what it is, and the respect that it enlightens you with. I do not think that they will ever release a custom pushback, nor do I believe that it is necessary. Remember…HR… lol.

Not sure if they will replace it, but I had the carbon fender and that is pretty wrecked now from when the board popped up in the air and landed right on it. Thank you for the video! 😀 There is one thing I don't understand ...
    You stated, "... if you are someone who currently has an XR with a CBXR battery upgrade ..." I hear (and read) so many people talk about getting a CBXR battery upgrade and I understand what it does BUT ... Do I NEED to get a CBXR battery upgrade?? I love my XR and I know that I don't have the range as a GT or someone with a CBXR battery upgrade. Ok, aaaannnnd???
    It seems to me based on the short history of the OneWheel and human nature that many people will never be satisfied with the speed and range of a OneWheel until either it's the fastest PEV on the market and/or the number of deaths from the riding a OneWheel at high speed become a concern for all. After all, I can get more range and speed (2x - 3x) by riding an electric skateboard. Sure, I give up some of the coolness, uniqueness, and benefits of a OneWheel but nothing can be perfect - including a OneWheel.
    So, let's say - 5 years from now - the max speed and range of a OneWheel is the same at the current GT. Do you think you would be still just as excited to ride a OneWheel as you are today?
    I know I would.
    I'm going to continue to hold off on the GT (as I normally do with first editions) until they address the ghosting and "fishtailing" issues. Until then I'll ride my XR until it dies 😎🤙

    • @AustenHartley
      @AustenHartley  Před 2 lety +1

      haha basically I think its worth the upgrade from XR to GT. BUT if you have an XR that already has the CBRX, and you like your board exactly how it is the GT MIGHT not make a huge difference. Personally - I think it still makes a pretty big difference, but is it worth the money to upgrade at that point - it depends on the rider.

    • @anthonytran3584
      @anthonytran3584 Před 2 lety +1

      coming from v1 to XR to CBXR, the range is worth it. The biggest benefit to CBXR is added consistent power output from the larger battery. also not having range anxiety on trails and longer city tours is worth it. that being said if you're on a stock XR battery AND are wanting more range, i would sell the XR and buy the GT hands down.

    • @theorushinjr9023
      @theorushinjr9023 Před 2 lety

      @@anthonytran3584 Sure. I understand what you are saying. I guess what I am still trying to understand is where or when does it all end?? It seems to me that even though the GT and/or a CBXR battery gives you better range now - what happens a year to two from now (maybe sooner) when 20 - 30 miles is not enough - people start becoming weary of being able to only ride 30 miles before having to charge. It happened with the v1, the XR, the Pint, and the Pint X. Human nature tells me that even if Future Motion created a OnwWheel that had a range of 100 miles some people will still complain and want to get more range. "What Wrong With The Range You Got?" (I should create a meme for that - LOL)After all, we can only drive our cars for some given range before we have to stop and fill it with gas. It's a given. And if I run out of gas before I get to the next gas station then it's my fault in bad planning.

    For $500 cheaper you can have an inmotion v12 HT with a knobby tire with all the water resistance included you can use the $500 to get a high speed charger and jump pads that you can use to actually catch air off anything you want. And it's tough as nails. With 30mile real world range. Not to mention it goes almost 40mph. Climbs 35 degree inclines with ease. These onewheels are overpriced and under the bar when it comes to speed and quality. I'm so glad I lost interest in these and bought an EUC instead. Since November I've learned to ride and ridden 700 miles mixed on and offroad.
    PS: My EXN HT goes up and down mountains all day, with regenerative braking and 40mile real world range in the worst conditions. Most days I can go between 50-70miles with ease and only have to get off if I want to take a break. Save your money folks, get an EUC.

    GT absolutely needs a mode that allows adjustable pushback or minimal like the xr. Its an oxymoron to have the flagship model have a lower top speed than the xr and a potentially uncomfortable ride at the top end. Also, it's a bit of an insult to people who prefer to rely on their own ability to keep the board in its limits while pushing it. And the thing is called the GT so yeah, needs to have highest top speed period. Just in one mode fine, call it racing mode and put a clickable warning when entering the mode for liability and safety. FM is balancing a fine line of fear of lawsuits and happy customers and loyal riders who built up and represented the company in the first place. Hope they make some moves to show some respect and improve the experience.
