    I'm going to go off piste a little for those that struggle to see a use case for the big Fuji or question the benefits over FF.
    Yesterday the BBC broadcast a documentary about the coronation year of King Charles III. (Available of iPlayer for those in the UK and if you use a VPN those overseas).
    One section dealt with taking the first official portrait photographs of the King and Queen.
    Royal Photographer Hugo Burnand was using Fuji GFX. That's right, not Hasselblad etc. Fuji!
    I spotted it and was a bit surprised. I can't speak for other high profile successful professionals, or anybody else actually, it seems to me to be a point of some interest.

    I got a new 50s ii....3 lenses (2 new) for less than 9k Australian...it was robbery 😮...8 weeks later and I'm in love with this system 😍...so darn good as landscape photographer..I chose the 50s ii because it's bigger pixels are better in lowlight blue hour and golden hour. This would have cost me 15k a year ago.

    Very few pros can afford all the upgrades! I'm retired but never walked with the herd!
    When all the successful pros were working with Hasselblad 500, I used my Mamiya C series. Easy to afford lenses, A spare body way less than Hasselblad magazine. The need for regular services on all the bits of Hassie! The straight film run in Mamiya and Pentax 6x7 equaled out the Zeiss lenses.. I like reading and seeing! But it's been years since I bought new equipment. Mostly donations! Interesting..

    Hi Hugh. I have the 30TS lens since launch. It's a bit of a beast but it is super sharp and its shift capability makes it a phenomenal lens for architectural photography. I'm running it with the original GFX 100 - even more of a beast but it's on a tripod anyway, and as you say in the video, my subjects don't move around much :))

    Very tempting. A while back, I opted for a Lumix S1R and an adapted Canon 24mm TSE lens. While I’m sure the larger format sensors on the GFX will have an advantage, it’s tough to justify as I have acquired some very competent L-Mount glass since then. I’m still missing that tiling EVF, though.

    Fujifilm does indeed make the highest performing MFD cameras in the market, for any price. They pretty much own this market segment.
    The only metric that they haven't won yet is pixel count. But even there, it's almost irrelevant. Almost.

    Hi Hugh!!
    The only problem I have with the older GFX cameras is….Fuji stopped making batteries for them, and there’s lots of horror stories of 3rd party batteries swelling up and ruining bodies.
    I have the GFX100 and picked up a GFX50R, just to have a rangefinder and shoot in XPan aspect ratio with adapted vintage lenses.
    What is your advice for batteries? Do you know or a brand that is dependable and won’t swell?
    Thanks in advance!!!

  • @thedarkslide
    @thedarkslide Před 6 měsíci +3

    It doesn't have to be medium format. And certainly, it doesn't have to be this price point. Landscape, urban landscape and architecture photographers can score an unbelievable bargain in picking up the Canon 5DsR with the EF tilt shift lenses from Canon for a fraction of the price of the GFX system. I would pick the 5DsR over the GFX 50S EVERY time, given the quality and flexibility of EF lens mount options. In fact, that's exactly what I did and would do again.
    4:20 Not true. Canon 5DsR (51MP) at around USD1,300 like new with six months warranty + Canon TS-E 24mm f3.5 L II at around USD1,000 used or USD1,700 brand new in box. You would still have enough cash to also add the Canon TS-E 17mm L and be cheaper.

      You can use canon tse lenses on the GFX. 50mm, 90mm and 135mm are excellent. 24mm not up to their standards but still pretty good. Now Fuji offers a 30mm TSE which is excellent from what I hear.

  • @LoFiAxolotl
    @LoFiAxolotl Před 6 měsíci +3

    Maybe it's just me but i don't get the Fuji GFX and Hassy XCD system... i mean they're great cameras sure... but the sensor really is only marginably bigger than fullframe.... and the pixel count is just too high.... if you NEED the quality of medium format and do it professionally... you are renting anyway and you probably rent a PhaseOne or a big boy Hassy....
    I just don't get their place in the market for the money they're asking for.... sure beautiful cameras... but compared to what Sony and Panasonic are offering price wise.... it's just too expensive even at 50% off

    • @chilecayenne
      @chilecayenne Před 6 měsíci +7

      I have the GFX100 and GFX50R…
      Trust me, it’s worth it.
      And that larger sensor allows you to have the higher pixel count with larger pixels…
      I’ve compared my shots vs my Canon and Leica gear.
      There’s a difference…and even though the digital MF isn’t as large as shooting on 120 film, that larger sensor IS large enough to give you more of that separation and 3D pop you get from true MF or LF film.

    • @gowphoto
      @gowphoto Před 6 měsíci +6

      GFX has replaced Phase and Hassy for many professional photographers. 1.7x larger sensor is more than a marginal difference. Don't know any pros who use Hassy digital backs any more.

      Both of these are great on the GFX…

      @@f8haus Just making a counterpoint here because GFX very much has a place in professional photography. For adverting and product shooting the large file size is needed especially for large format printing and the ability to achieve multiple crops from one frame. Hassy software is awful and phase is pricey and also slow. I work with Phase with a hassy H5 body, Nikon Z9 , Canon R5 and GFX 100. I’ve no need for IG.
