  • @paulinemegson8519
    @paulinemegson8519 Před 3 měsíci +6

    Yeah I think it’s the rain. Most horses don’t care about it but some REALLY hate it falling on their head and ears……and he’s probably getting drips off the box edge too that aren’t helping. Rearing is resisting, so it’s noticeable that he does it when his rider asks him to move forward in the box. He’s also clearly a favourite with the troopers going on the affectionate way the stableman patted him.

He wasn’t happy in the box, mainly I think due to rain on his head and ears(some horses REALLY hate rain in their face, and most will naturally turn tail to rain to avoid getting it in the face) He also knew it was almost changeover time and wanted to get into the stable so he was chewing furiously in impatience, not because of his bit. I've always thought it's incredibly cruel for horses to be made to stand in the one spot for hours on end. If we humans had to do it, we'd have swollen feet and wouldn't be upright for very long. A horse with all that weight it's carrying together with the sheer boredom of this stupid practice, would surely be in some kind of pain!! Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that is a cruel and unusual punishment.

      They don't stand for " hours on end " the duty in the box is for 1 hour then changed over , an hours break then back but not always .. Not every day either , the two regiments alternate every couple of days . The horses are bred from Irish draught with some thoroughbred blood , they are big strong well muscled horses perfectly capable of carrying the weight of Trooper and saddle . The Household Cavalry have their own vets , farriers master saddlers and receive better care than you or I . They are regularly turned out to grass in Melton Mowbray and holiday on the beach . None exhibit any kind of pain , so yes you are wrong . They are working horses doing the ceremonial role they are trained for .
