Chasing mackerel in cape cod bay

Early season mackerel hunting for the lobster season. We get some underwater views of the plankton bloom occurring attracting herring and mackerel to the area.

I just started fishing out of sandwich, What time of year is this, Early spring? Do mackerel run into the fall in the CCbay?

Mackerel arrive in the area in mid May and you can typically get them into July until they continue migrating north. Every year is different some years they are gone sooner, some years they stick around. This year they are still here in mid to late august and can be found from outside the east end of the canal all the way to Boston harbor. This time of year the earlier you try to get them after sunrise the better chance you will have. Troll sabikis around until you find them.
