    I love the Marc Jacob Little Stam. You described it perfectly…the Grandma Bag. Finger crossed for it to resurrect soon.

    I have a baby Fendi spy in Zucca print and it’s fab! The little mirrored slot is actually for a lipstick

    Oh yeah I remember some style of those bags, and I guess the Marc jacobs are like bringing back some of their old style now. I love the bag that has a unique closure. Just like the kisslock.
    Hmm those giant padlock, never saw that before 😅

      Yeah I wish MJ was doing more of the actual Marc jacobs bags, the ones coming out are styles from MBMJ which is fine but not my priority personally.

    Thanks for making this video! I have all these bags and I really hope they make a comeback, it's nice to see someone mentioning them at all. I mean, I'll keep wearing them regardless but it'd be fun to be "on trend". Of the styles you mentioned, I think my Stam has definitely held up the best. With that metal hinge frame there is no way for it to lose structure like some of my other bags have over time. I don't worry or fuss about it. And from a usage standpoint, I think it's the easiest one to get in and out of. The kiss lock is definitely grandma vibes but it's very convenient (unless you have super long sharp nails lol).
    The PS1 is a nice bag but definitely leans more casual while the Stam is more versatile day to night imo. And the straps hanging down on the PS1 tend to get bent out of shape easily in my experience. Love or hate the Stam's design, every element of the design does have its function. I am not really a hand-carry person so the handle on top of the PS1 (larger sizes) also felt a bit extra/unnecessary. Not that it stopped me from buying multiple of them. It has a classic look so even if it doesn't become the It bag again, I don't think anyone will look twice and say it's outdated.
    The Paddington was even worse about unnecessary features. The straps were too short for comfortable shoulder carry (for me at least) but the lock was very heavy, making it not so comfortable for arm carry. I still carried it that way and loved it at the time but idk if it'll make a comeback.
    The Fendi Spy does seem to be making a comeback, but its handle is also pretty short and it's a bulky bag to arm-carry. Also the kiss lock on the coin purse flap isn't nearly as sturdy as the Stam kiss lock. I had one wear out and then stuff fell out of my bag because of the way the flap is positioned. I'm glad for it to have its moment again but not sure if it will really make it to classic status.
    Lol sorry for this whole essay here. it's really interesting to think about

      No I really loved every single word you wrote and I really appreciate it!! Yeah these bags definitely are so important to contemporary fashion history, and especially with trend cycles repeating faster they’re definitely ones to keep your eye on

    I had to watch this video because I happen to own the Chloe Paddington with lock and also the Proenza Schouler PS1, haha. They are both great bags and yes, the Chloe is HEAVY! As far as value, you are right. They are each available for around $300.00 in good condition and each are very well made with gobs and gobs of Italian leather. Nice pick of bags!

      Thank you so much!! I was (am) obsessed with the PS1 but I have so much on my wish right now I’m prioritizing!! Do you still like it?

      @@hellsborough I do love them both but they are on the floppy side. I recently bought a Coach horse and carriage tote bag and have been carrying that to work. Its more on the structured side and I am enjoying being able to find my stuff more easily in it. The PS1 looks good though. Its a substantial bag for sure.

    New subbie, love your style and humor. This was a great trip down memory lane. I'm curious if the new Marc Jacobs reissues will be a "thing?"

    • @hellsborough
      @hellsborough  Před 2 lety +1

      I saw those and I'm not so sure. Like those ones were more from Marc by Marc Jacobs and those ones were for sure popular but didn't have the same impact that the Stam or the pocket one had. I definitely love that they did it though and maybe that means some of the other ones will be brought back?

    I like ALL the bags you consider grandma-ish, and I own several of them. Maybe it’s more of a gender difference which makes these bags more girly and it’s not your cup of tea. 😉

    "Once you get past all that, you open the bag".
    Get past all what - lifting the flap up? 😄 you dont need to open the lipstick compartment or the change purse to get in the bag, you literally just lift the flap up :)
    Its fine if you hate it though, to each their own 🤷‍♀️

    • @hellsborough
      @hellsborough  Před rokem +1

      Just because I say something is ugly or dumb doesn’t mean I actually hate it! On the contrary most of the time when I say something is ugly or dumb it means I love it. With this bag I definitely think that for a while the overwhelming amount of details on it fell out of fashion but it definitely has returned! It was just never my style.
      And I get that you don’t have to open all the compartments to get into the flap, I just meant once you visually get past all of these varied compartments 😉 but you knew that 💖

      @@hellsborough i did, i was just being snarky 🤷‍♀️😼
      I do see how the bag could be seen as ugly, it kind of rides the line, but thats part of its charm, & i think its gorgeous - im all about the soft squishy leather and a slouchy shape ❤️ i actually just bought an almost perfect preloved taupe Spy, &itll be my first🥰 which is why im watching vids about them.
      Wear what you love 😎

    Thanks for the video. Been purchasing luxury since 2002 so I remember a lot of these bags (I was in high school). I’ve been eyeing the Chloe woody tote for the past year but have been scared cos Chloe is known for having it bags and then gone. I love the tote but deciding between that and a leather neverfull. I have chanel Hermes LV etc etc, but need a tote to alternate my chanel deauville.. since it’s fabric and it’s difficult in some settings plus it’s so expensive to “throw around”. I love the woody tote, but I’m hesitating based on history. I had the fendi spy and Chloe paddingTon and a bunch of MJ, all sold and gone years and years ago. So Thiughts on the woody tote? Or should I just be safe and get the neverfull in cognac (new color releases this month)

    • @hellsborough
      @hellsborough  Před 2 lety

      The woody is definitely cute in the all leather but I sometimes feel like this sort of minimalist style is something trendy too. Just because something is “plain” doesn’t mean you’ll love it forever either, which seems like it’s okay for you since you’ve sold some bags in the past! The rectangular shape of the woody is nice but if you’re looking for something you’ll probably use into the future the neverfull seems like a safer bet with a casual look but enough detail to make it interesting to keep around. Just be careful with how much you put in since the straps are so thin. And I’d bet that if you decide to sell either in the future the neverfull will retain a bit more value than the woody. I hope this helps!! 💖
